Chapter 301

As Jacob continued to massage Olivia's ankle to reduce the swelling, she gritted her teeth, trying to just get
through the pain. That was easier said than done, though. She'd been through a lot of painful situations, but
nothing compared to this.
She could tell that Jacob was trying his best to be gentle-at least his hands were soft and warm-but because of
the pain of her injury his soft touch felt like he was setting her leg on fire while simultaneously pushing a
thousand needles into her ankle. Hot pain was licking up her leg. It was at the point where she wanted to scream
in agony. A yell was uncomfortably building in her throat, but she was trying her best not to even move a muscle.
Jacob had no idea the kind of excruciating pain that Olivia was in. As he tried to control the swelling, she sat
perfectly still with a calm expression. He was beyond impressed with her pain tolerance. Jacob had done this to a
few patients with injured ankles. One time, he even had a burly biker crying and begging for his mom.
The only way that Olivia showed that she was in pain on the outside was by the way she was tightly gripping her
phone.
Halfway through the massage, Jacob stopped, and Olivia's body slumped with relief because she thought he was
done.
“I have to move you into the main room,” he told her and handed her the crutches so she could walk. “The
freezer is out there with the ice packs, and | need them to be as cold as possible. | don’t want to transfer them.”
Olivia's face paled at the thought of seeing Ethan again. Jacob sensed her hesitation and remembered the creep
in the waiting room,
“I can bring the ice packs in here if you prefer,” Jacob offered.
“Oh, no, it’s okay,” Olivia said as she got up from the table, trying not to wince at the radiating pain in her ankle.
Once she was settled on a crinkly blue cot in the main room, she shut her eyes and endured the pain, trying not
to look in Ethan's direction. She was dismayed to see that her ex-husband was still sitting in the waiting room
trying to catch her eye.

After Jacob iced her ankle for five minutes, he began his massage again. Ethan noticed that Olivia was gripping
her phone tightly and realized that she was in pain. He immediately stood and strode over to Olivia and Jacob.
“You are hurting her!” Ethan protested. “Stop right now. Can't you see that she’s in pain?”
Jacob didn’t stop massaging her ankle. “She’s strong. She can handle a lot more than you think.” He didn’t even
look at Ethan.
Olivia tightly shut her eyes and prayed that her ex would be gone when she opened them again.
Jacob's words hit Ethan like a swift
kick in the gut. He stumbled back a

At that moment, Olivia opened her eyes and looked at him. Her cold glare was like being struck by lightning.
Ethan wanted nothing more than for her to look at her with the skind of compassion in her eyes that she
had when they were married. He would give almost anything for her to care about him again.
