Chapter 235 She And | Have Nothing To Do Wit...

“Understood-I'll head right over.”

Eric ended the call swiftly and drove straight toward Maple Bay.

Visiting Quentin's hwasn’t unusual, but this tfelt strangely different.

Moments after pressing the bell, Quentin appeared in the doorway.

“Mr. Flynn.” Quentin stepped aside. “Please, cin.”

“Much appreciated.”

Giving Quentin a brief nod, Eric walked inside.

“I've been waiting,” Ernest said quietly from his seat on the couch.

“Ernest.” Eric acknowledged warmly before glancing around curiously. “What's the reason for all this mystery?”

With visible effort, Ernest attempted to rise, prompting Eric to quickly retrieve the cane resting nearby. “Here

you go.”

“Thank you,” Ernest murmured, accepting the cane and studying Eric carefully. “Followupstairs.”

“Alright,” Eric said, though an unsettling feeling gripped him.

He followed Ernest upstairs.

Reaching the top, Ernest paused solemnly outside a particular room.

Eric’s confusion deepened. “What's going on, Ernest?”

Ernest nodded. “There's someone you need to meet.”

Taking a careful breath, Ernest twisted the knob, gently pushing the door open.

Eric peered cautiously inside.

Within the modestly sized room, things appeared slightly cluttered yet deliberately arranged-items lined neatly

along the walls, leaving open floor space covered by a soft carpet.

At the center sat a young boy, around three, fully engrossed in stacking colorful blocks.

Stunned, Eric shot an astonished glance toward Ernest.

Before he could speak, Ernest quietly shut the door, careful not to disturb the boy's focus.

“Ernest...?”

Shock clouded Eric's face, a thousand unspoken questions tumbling through his mind, none finding their way

out clearly.

Who exactly was the child inside? What was he doing here at Quentin's? Why had Ernest been so secretive, so

cautious-could the boy possibly be Ernest's son?

Reading Eric's troubled expression, Ernest nodded with a faint smile. “Your guess is right. He's mine.”

“What?” Eric froze, his eyes widening sharply.

How could this be possible?

Then, it hit him.

From the moment Ernest woke up, he had Quentin secretly tracking someone.

Apparently, that “someone” had turned out to be this child-and, Eric suspected, probably the child's mother

as well.

Linda’s vague suspicions flashed vividly into his mind, suddenly making perfect sense.

She had long suspected Ernest might have someone else, though she’d never found tangible proof.

After silently gathering his thoughts, Eric faced his brother directly. “Ernest, what are you planning to do?”

He reconsidered and rephrased the question. “Actually, the real question is, how do you intend to explain all of

this to Linda?”

Before Ernest could respond, Eric's voice dropped, heavy with warning. “You owe Linda everything, Ernest-

she’s the reason you're still here.”

A shadow flickered across Ernest's handsfeatures, his expression inscrutable.

“Relax, Eric. | never intended for any of this to happen. Hurting Linda was never my goal, and | won't abandon

her now.”

But was that genuinely Ernest's stance?

Doubt momentarily clouded Eric's judgment, yet deep down, he trusted his brother's integrity.

Glancing toward the closed door, Eric finally asked softly, “Ernest, what's the real story behind all of this?”

“Let’s talk somewhere quieter,” Ernest suggested, nodding toward the study. “I brought you here specifically to

explain.”

“I'm listening.”

Everything traced back to the car crash Ernest had suffered years earlier.

That devastating accident had rendered Ernest unconscious, lingering helplessly in a vegetative state-and it

had never seemed entirely accidental.

Eric, along with Nyla, had privately suspected foul play, investigating discreetly for years. Unfortunately, their

attempts had uncovered little, while official investigations had similarly yielded no solid leads.

Upon listening to Ernest now, Eric’s expression darkened sharply. “So they're still out there, plotting against

you?”

Ernest remained perfectly calm, eyes cold with determination. “It’s their bad luck-I survived.”

Now that he was awake again, it was tto repay old grudges and new threats alike.

As for the child, Ernest assured Eric, his existence was genuinely unexpected.

From Eric's perspective, he couldn't fault Ernest entirely, but whether Linda could see it the sway was

another matter.

Still, the boy carried Flynn blood; they couldn't simply abandon him outside the family.

As for Linda, they would have to keep it from her for now.

Eric hesitated slightly before raising another delicate concern. “The boy naturally belongs with us. But Ernest...

what about his mother?”

“There's no complication there.”

Ernest spoke plainly, his tone firm and decisive, his handsface carefully devoid of emotion. “She means

nothing tobeyond being the child's biological mother. Our connection ended there.”

Relief visibly softened Eric’s tense features upon hearing that reassurance.

At least that much was certain.

“Ernest, don’t push yourself too hard. Linda just needs time. Eventually, I'm sure she’ll caround.”

After all, this entire situation had genuinely been accidental.

Ernest's heart still belonged firmly to Linda-that much Eric knew without doubt.

“Yes,” Ernest murmured, his brows still shadowed with uncertainty. “Let's hope you're right.”

In the afternoon, Hadley left the hospital, relieved that Joy was feeling much better.

Once back at the dance studio, she stayed until her usual finishing time, finding Eric waiting outside exactly

when expected.

Just as she buckled herself in, Eric let out a brief cough.

Immediately concerned, Hadley turned toward him. “Are you catching a cold?”

“No.” Eric chuckled softly, shaking his head dismissively. “It’s just the weather-my throat feels dry.”

“Alright,” Hadley said quietly, deciding to leave it at that.

Later that night, while comfortably nestled in Eric's embrace, Hadley casually said, “I've made plans to have

dinner at Elissa’s tomorrow night, and | might stay there overnight if it gets too late.”

The next day’s treatments would be particularly rough on Joy, and Hadley was determined to be there for her

daughter, whatever it took.

Eric wasn’t too pleased. “You're planning to stay the night?”

“Yes,” Hadley nodded. “I have friends too, and sometimes | need to chat and bond with my friends”

“Does chatting with friends really take a whole night?” Eric grumbled.

She puffed her cheeks slightly, feigning annoyance. “It’s just one night

Faced with her stubborn expression, Eric sighed softly, giving in. “Fine, just one night

“Okay.” Hadley was delighted, lifting her head to kiss him. He held her head, deepening the kiss

After the kiss, Eric lightly touched her wrist, adding casually, “Oh, by the way, your watch has been found”

Surprise widened Hadley’s eyes. “My watch? They actually found it?”

“Is that strange?” Eric pinched her nose playfully. “Of course, | told you there's a series number for tracking, No

one could sell it off unnoticed.”

Apparently, the thief had triggered an immediate alert when attempting to pawn it.

“But there's sdamage, so it needs to go back for repairs,” he said gently, pressing a kiss to her forehead “It

might take a bit before it’s ready again.”

“Okay.” Hadley sighed lightly, nodding. Luxury items, she thought, were always causing skind of hassle

That night passed peacefully and quietly.

The next morning, Hadley followed the sroutine.

Joy's treatments began soon after her arriving at the hospital, quickly bringing renewed pain and discomfort

“Mommy.” Clinging weakly to Hadley’s shoulder, Joy's eyes filled with sadness. “I miss Daddy so much. It hurts.

Can Daddy cand hold Joy?”

Hearing those innocent, longing words broke Hadley’s heart all at once.
