Chapter 236 Thank You,
Eric
“Mommy.”
Joy's voice was raspy, laced with a sense of loss.
Through her tears, she recalled her mother’s earlier words. “Daddy loves his job more than me, doesn’t he? Boo
hoo...”
“That's not true,” Hadley responded, her own voice thick with emotion, feeling a weight on her chest that made
it difficult to breathe.
“Daddy loves Joy very much...”
“Why doesn’t he visitthen?”
Tears welled up in Joy's large eyes. Sensing her mother’s struggle, she nestled closer within her embrace, her
sobs growing louder. “Daddy’s mean! | don’t like Daddy anymore!”
“Joy.”
Hadley paused as she wrestled with her thoughts.
A part of her wanted to blurt out that her father did care, that he had even been here to see her!
Yet, she hesitated, fearing the implications of revealing too much.
She knew there was a special bond between Eric and Joy, and that he treated her well.
Yet, how could they be certain that Eric's feelings wouldn't shift if he discovered Joy was his daughter?
It was just like pets were adored by many, yet only a select few commit to them for life.
“Melba.” Joy raised her head, tears in her eyes, and addressed Melba. “Could you please call that nice uncle?”
“Well...” Melba paused, uncertain, her gaze shifting towards Hadley for guidance.
“We ran into that gentleman I told you about after you left yesterday,” she explained. “He spent a good amount
of twith Joy.”
She turned back to Joy, softly touching her head. “He might be occupied with important matters right now, Joy. |
don’t think we should disturb him.”
“But he toldto call if | felt sick,” Joy insisted, her lower lip quivering.
Melba glanced at Hadley, seeking confirmation. “Should | call him? He seemed like a decent man.”
Hadley gave a small nod. “Yes, call him.”

After a brief pause to check his schedule, he suggested, “I'll visit pay this afternoon. Please tell her to stay calm
and wait for me.”
“Understood. Thank you, sir *
Melba ended the call with a smile, turning to joy, “He’s promised to visit you later today, so let's try to be brave
until then, okay?*
“Yes!”
Though still sniffling and slightly uncomfortable, joy’s spirits visibly lifted.
Melba reflected quietly. “Life really is full of surprises, joy and that gentleman seem to share a unique bond.”
Hadley managed a small smile, acknowledging the deep yet fragile connection between father and daughter,
silently pondering its future.
Eric wrapped up his afternoon tasks before heading to the hospital. But first, he made a call to the doctor
treating his brother, Ernest.
“Mr. Flynn.” The doctor looked slightly puzzled. “Are you referring to your brother’s condition? He's recovering
well.”
Though Ernest's rapid recovery was notable, especially with the substantial financial aid from the Flynn family,
that wasn’t Eric's current concern.
“No, that’s not what | need,” Eric said, with a tone of urgency. “I'm interested in whether the treatment being
used on my brother is appropriate for children.”
“For a child? What are the specifics of the child's condition?”
“It’s...”
Eric described Joy's medical situation in detail to the doctor.
Considering the information, the doctor replied, “It should generally be safe, but I'd advise confirming with her
primary physician to tailor the dosage correctly.”
“Thank you, doctor. That's all | need to hear,” Eric said before ending the call and setting off for the hospital.
He then called Melba to check on Joy's condition. “How's Joy now? I'm heading over.”
“She's trying to rest, but it’s been restless,” Melba replied with a sigh.

“| see,” Eric responded, concern marking his features as he drove.
Upon his arrival at the hospital, he didn’t head straight to Joy's ward. Instead, he met with her doctor first.
“Mr. Flynn.” Colden acknowledged him with a nod, offering a seat. “Joy started her treatment regtoday.”
“I know.”
Eric expressed his understanding with a nod and turned the conversation towards the medication. “Dr. Torres,
is this medicine beneficial for Joy?”
“The medicine you mentioned...” After a thoughtful pause, Colden confirmed. “Indeed, it should provide
significant relief.”
The medication, though not a cure, promised to significantly lessen the discomfort Joy faced during her
treatments.
Colden had previously hesitated to prescribe it, held back by two main obstacles-its high cost and scarcity.
Indeed, this particular medication was not stocked within Srixby.
“That's reassuring.”
Eric acknowledged with relief, learning it was helpful for Joy’s condition. He assured, saying, “I'll arrange for its
delivery soon.”
Handling the logistics was easy for him.
Given that Ernest had been on this medication, Eric planned to redirect sfrom their reserve for Joy.
“Thank you, Mr. Flynn.”
Colden expressed his deep appreciation, his demeanor reflecting his dedication as a healer. “Your support means
a great deal.”
Eric dismissed the gratitude with a wave of his hand and made his way toward the ward.
Aware of his impending visit, Hadley had chosen that moment to step away, not wanting to confront him directly.
“Hello!” Eric said as he swung the door open. Joy, who was propped up in her hospital bed, spotted him and
made an effort to sit up more quickly.

“Take it easy, little one,” Melba cautioned, rushing to steady her. “Look who's here. Are you excited?”
“Yes, I'm so happy!” Joy exclaimed.
“Joy.”
Eric closed the distance between them, lifting Joy effortlessly into one arm and drawing her close. As he wiped
the sweat from her brow-a sign of her ongoing discomfort-he planted a gentle kiss on her forehead. “Hang in
there, Joy. We're going to get you feeling better very soon.”
He then turned to Melba, his expression shifting to one of concern. “Where's her mother?”
The urgency of discussing Joy’s new medication with her mother was clear.

Melba responded with a helpless shrug, “She was here until just a few minutes ago. She had to take a call and
step out.”
“| see,” Eric muttered, his brow furrowing slightly. After a brief pause, he decided. “I'll leave the details with you
then. Please make sure she gets the message.”
“Of course.” Melba agreed, ready to take notes.
Eric proceeded to relay the necessary information about the medication, ensuring Melba understood everything
clearly.
Melba couldn’t contain her excitement upon hearing the news and gave her thigh a joyful slap. “This is
wonderful! Joy's discomfort will be greatly eased!”
Eric cautioned her to keep things procedural. “We'll make sure everything goes through the right medical
protocols. I've already discussed this with Dr. Torres. Let Joy’s mom know the medication has been vetted for
safety.”
“This is great,” Melba responded, nodding vigorously. “Joy is truly fortunate!”
With Hadley absent, Melba felt compelled to express gratitude on her behalf. “I'll extend thanks on behalf of her
mother! She'd be overwhelmed by your generosity if she were here.”
Turning to Joy, she said, “Say thank you to him, Joy!”
Joy, embracing Eric warmly, planted a grateful kiss on his cheek. “Thank you. I like you the most.”
Unbeknownst to them, Hadley was just outside the doorway, observing the tender scene. Tears welled up in her
eyes as she fought to keep them from falling.
Quietly, she murmured to herself, “Thank you, Eric... thank you so much...” Her voice laden with emotion as she
gratefully acknowledged his efforts.
