Chapter 188: Chapter 188: Annoyingly Smug Grin of His
For a second, she just looked at him.
Her eyes froze that ssharp silver, but softer somehow. Like she was searching for something in his face and
couldn't find it.
Then her expression changed in seconds, like none of it mattered anymore.
Before Kael could say anything, her fist cflying straight at him.
He barely had tto dodge. The hit landed against his shoulder with a dull thud, but it was strong enough to
make him grumble.
"Get out!" she snapped, her voice rising, shaking a little. "Before | scream and call the guards. They'll drag you
out in the worst way possible."
Kael just looked at her and then smiled.
Not nervous. Not scared. Just that ssmall, shameless smile that made her blood boil.
"I'm going, I'm going," he said lazily, lifting his hands like in surrender. "You don’t have to threaten me. | can do
anything you say, like a loyal lover should, right?"
Serena blinked at him, half angry, half speechless. "You... what are you even saying? Do you have no shame?"
He tilted his head, pretending to think. "No. Not when it comes to you."
Her eyes widened. "You...!"
She took a step forward like she might actually hit him again. He didn’t even move. He just stood there, grinning
like an idiot.
"Are you serious right now?" she hissed. "I should just throw you out myself."
"Go ahead," he said, still smiling. "But if you touchagain, | might think you wantto stay."
That did it.
Her face turned red from anger or embarrassment; even she didn’t know. "Get out!"
He chuckled. A low, quiet sound that made her want to throw something at him.
"Alright, alright. Don’t look atlike that. It's dangerous," he said, stepping closer instead of back. "You'll make
Before she could react, he leaned in and brushed a quick kiss against her cheek.
It wasn’t rough or demanding. Just soft and fleeting, but enough to make her freeze completely.
"You...!" she gasped, but he had already stepped away, a flicker of light burning in his eyes.
That wild look in his eyes and the way his eyes lit up with one look of her, like he'd just found something he'd
been searching for all his life.
"I knew it," he whispered, almost to himself. "You really are real."
And with that, he turned and leapt up to the window, disappearing into the night.
Serena stood there for a long second, breathing hard.
Then she sat down on the bed, pressing her palm against her face. Her heart was still pounding like it wanted to
jump out of her chest.
She took a deep breath.
Then another, but it didn’t help.
"What the hell was that?" she whispered, her voice shaking a little.
Her eyes fell on the table beside the bed, on a glass of water. She grabbed it quickly and drank, trying to calm
herself down.
The cold water helped a little, but not enough. She looked toward the window again, half expecting to see him
there.

But He was gone.
She let out a long breath, her shoulders slumping. "That man is insane," she muttered.
And yet, even as she said it, her heart didn’t slow down. Not one bit.

Serena’s POV~
| barely slept that night.
Actually, no. | didn’t sleep at all.
Every t| closed my eyes, | saw his face again. That stupid grin. That stupid confidence. The way he leaned in
like he owned the world.
And that kiss.
God, just thinking about it made my stomach twist in anger.
How could he? How could he dare to sneak into my room like that?
And still act like it was nothing?
By morning, my eyes had dark circles under them. | looked at the mirror and almost groaned.
"Perfect," | muttered. "Now I look like a panda."
| wanted to curse him.
Actually, no... | wanted to throw something heavy at his head. But most of all, | didn’t even know what to do now.
What was | supposed to do with this situation? Pretend nothing happened? Report him? Or maybe strangle him
myself if he comes near again?
| rubbed my temples and sighed. My head was pounding.
A soft knock cat the door. "Princess?"
It was Lira, my maid. Always too cheerful for mornings.
"Cin," | said tiredly.
She stepped in with her usual bright smile, carrying a fresh dress and sribbons. "You didn’t sleep well again,
did you?"
| didn’t answer. She could tell anyway. My face said enough.
Lira moved around the room quickly, humming a tune. She loved helpingdress, even though | could easily do
it myself. | didn’t have the heart to tell her no.
But this time, she cin holding something else, a big bouquet of flowers, bright and fresh, glowing like the
sun itself.
"Princess!" she said, grinning wide. "These are for you! Someone left them at the door this morning!"
| froze. My eyebrows pulled together.
"Who?" | asked flatly.
"I don’t know," she said happily. "There's a note too!"
| took the bouquet slowly, already feeling a strange heaviness in my chest.
There was indeed a small folded note tucked between the flowers.
| opened it.
For my hot pepper.
My whole body stiffened.
| didn’t even need to guess who it was from.
My hands clenched, and before | could stop myself, | tore the note in half and threw it straight into the bin.
Lira blinked at me, startled. "Princess? What happened? Don’t you like it?"
| forced a small breath. "No, | don’t."
She tilted her head, curious. "Is it from someone in the royal training ground? Maybe one of the warriors?" she
asked with that ssilly smile.
| looked away, pretending to fix my sleeve. "It’s... just someone | don't like."
Lira blinked again but said nothing. She placed the bouquet gently on the table and went back to her work, still
humming softly.
But my mind was nowhere near calm.
My heart was beating fast again, and no matter how much I ignored it, | couldn’t stop thinking about him.
That infuriating, impossible man.
Even when he wasn’t here, he somehow managed to mess with my peace.
Lira tried her best to cheerup in the morning, but | wasn’t in the mood.
She brought out half the wardrobe, like | was about to attend a royal feast or something.
| shook my head. "No. Just givesomething simple."
She blinked. "Simple, Princess?"
"Yes. I'm going to the training ground," | said, tying my hair back. "Don’t ask which one. I just want to run a bit
and clear my mind. Breakfast can wait."
Lira looked atlike she wanted to argue, but she finally sighed and picked out a plain training outfit—simple
pants, a light top, and something easy to move in.
"Fine," she said. "At least it suits you. You look strong like this."
| smiled faintly. "Good. I'll be back soon."
But honestly, | wasn’t planning to go to the training ground.
| didn’t want to deal with anyone—not the warriors, not Vaelen, and definitely not anyone asking why I looked
like | hadn't slept for three nights straight.
Because really, who could sleep after someone broke into your room and kissed you?
| went out the back way, through the garden and then past the open yard. The palace grounds were huge
...almost endless. That's how it was here. Werewolves liked open land, nature, and space to run.
So | ran.

Wait.
There was a sound behind me.
Footsteps.
Heavy ones.
| turned, frowning, already annoyed, and of course, who else could it be?
Kael.
Running behindwith that smug grin, waving like an idiot.
And gods help me, he was shirtless. Only wearing black sweatpants that stuck to him like a second skin.
| stopped dead in my tracks. "You... what the hell are you doing here?"
He grinned wider, still jogging toward me. "Running. Sas you."

| scowled. "Don’t play dumb. This area’s empty. No one comes here."
"Maybe that’s why I like it," he said, with that stupid teasing tone. "Peaceful. Beautiful view too."
My glare sharpened. "Don’t you dare..."
"What?" he said innocently, lookingright in the eye. "I was talking about the trees."
| groaned. "You're unbelievable."
He laughed, low and amused. "You keep saying that, but you keep ending up near me. Maybe it’s fate."
"Fate?" | repeated, scoffing. "More like bad luck."
He clutched his chest tically. "Ouch. Straight to the heart."

"Can you stop followinglike a creep?" | snapped.
He shrugged. "I'm not following you. You just have a good sense of direction."
"You..." | started warningly.
"Yes, my hot pepper?" he said in a mock-serious tone.
| stopped and glared at him so hard he almost laughed. "Say that again, and I'll break your jaw."
He grinned wider. "You say the sweetest things to me."
| threw my hands up. "Why do you talk like this?!"
He tilted his head, smiling softly now. "Because you look better when you're angry."
| stared at him, completely done. "You are seriously insane."
"Maybe," he said with a shrug. "But you keep talking to me, so what does that make you?"
That shutup for a second.
| hated that stupid grin. | hated that stupid voice.
But the worst part? My heart was still beating too fast, even though | told myself a hundred times | hated him.
