Sloane used the terrain to her advantage, taking out two more assassins who had fallen behind. Her movements

were fast, precise, and merciless-every strike hit its mark with deadly accuracy. A chilling stillness settled over

the forest, as if even the wind had gone silent.

But the continued disappearance of his men finally set off alarms in the gruff man’s mind. His face darkened to a

terrifying degree as reports crackled through the rain his hand. “Boss, we lost two more...”

“Useless trash!” the man roared, slamming the walkie-talkie to the ground. A fierce glint flashed in his eyes; he

ground his teeth and growled, “All units-open fire! Flush that wench out!”

At his command, the remaining assassins raised their submachine guns and unleashed a wild barrage into the

forest. Bullets rained down like a storm; trees were shredded to splinters, leaves torn from branches and

scattered in every direction.

Crouched behind a massive boulder, Sloane heard the piercing whine of bullets and the deafening crack of

breaking wood all around her. Her injured arm throbbed painfully; blood dripped steadily down her fingers,

staining the earth below.

Her breathing was ragged, her mind racing for a plan, but against such overwhelming firepower, there was

nothing she could do.

Is this really where | die? Even if there's just one sliver of hope, I'm not going down without a fight. A wave of

despair rose in her chest, but she wasn’t ready to give up. She gritted her teeth, clutching the knife in her hand

even tighter.

Just then, a new burst of gunfire rang out from the other side of the woods-sharp, deliberate, followed by the

screams of dying men.

Sloane's head snapped up. She watched in stunned disbelief as several assassins collapsed one after another,

each hit with deadly precision.

“Sloane!” A familiar voice called out from the distance-urgent, laced with

Her heart lurched; she could hardly believe her ears. Peeking out from behind the boulder, she spotted Lucas

charging out from the trees, a submachine gun in hand, eyes cold and focused.

“Lucas!” Her voice caught in her throat with emotion.

Using the gunfire as cover, Lucas rushed to her side. “Sloane, are you okay?”

The moment she saw him, it was like grabbing hold of the last lifeline. Her body was still trembling, but a wave of

relief washed through her.

“My arm’s hurt,” she gasped, struggling for breath.

Lucas’s gaze flicked to her arm, eyes tightening with concern. He immediately pulled a bandage from his pack

and wrapped the wound with swift, practiced hands. “Hang in there,” he said quietly.

Sloane nodded, biting down hard to endure the pain.

Nearby, the reinforcements Lucas brought had already engaged the assassins. Gunfire erupted across the forest

in a deafening clash.

Lucas tied off the bandage. “I didn’t bring many people-we won't last long. We need to get out of here, now.”

Earlier, he'd caught the assassins off guard, which was the only reason he’d broken through in tto reach her.

Andrew had warned him not to take the risk, but Lucas, too worried about Sloane, had gone in anyway, against

orders, and alone.

“Okay.” Sloane nodded quickly, sticking close by his side,

Lucas handed her a gun, then checked his own weapon to ensure it was fully loaded. In a low voice, he said,

“Stay close. We're breaking out on the left-there’s a narrow path that leads around to the base of the mountain.”

“Got it.” Sloane tightened her grip on the weapon, her eyes sharp with resolve.
