“Relax, you won't die,” the man named Thomas said, rubbing his hands together as he slowly stepped toward

Sloane.

“Stay away from me!” Sloane’s voice trembled, laced with sobs, but her eyes were frighteningly calm. As she

wept, she quietly shifted one foot back behind her.

“Don’t be scared, sweetheart. I'll be gentle,” Thomas said, grinning as he reached out to grab her shoulder.

Just as his hand was about to touch her, Sloane slashed through the ropes binding her wrists with the blade

she’d hidden in her shoe.

In one swift move, she drove her foot into the man’s knee with all her strength. He cried out in pain, stumbling

backward, completely caught off guard.

Sloane moved like lightning. In the sinstant Thomas staggered, she pulled a hairpin from her hair. Though it

looked ordinary, its tip gleamed with a cold light —it was actually a modified weapon with a razor-sharp edge.

“Gosh! That wench is trying to run!” Thomas yelled, clutching his knee and lunging at her in fury.

Sloane's gaze turned icy. She flicked her wrist, and the hairpin’s tip shot out into a thin, sharp blade. Without

hesitation, she drove it straight toward Thomas's throat. His eyes widened, but before he could react, the blade

pierced clean through. Blood spurted from his neck.

“You...” Thomas clutched his throat, his voice rasping, before he collapsed to the floor.

There was no tto waste. Sloane knew the others would be storming in any second. She bolted toward the

broken-down window she’d noticed earlier.

Though it had been nailed shut with wooden boards, the rotting wood was already loose with age. She charged

forward and kicked hard.

The planks snapped under the force. Just before she jumped, she flung a capsule of

powder from the hidden compartment in her weapon.

“Bang!” The door slammed open. Several killers rushed in, only to stop dead when they saw Thomas lying in a

pool of blood.

“Damn it! That wench killed Thomas and ran!” one of them shouted.

“Go after her!” the rugged man’s voice bellowed from outside, seething with rage.

But then, the men inside the house collapsed one by one.

The rugged man’s face changed instantly. He clutched his nose and staggered backward. “It’s poison!”

The two guards at the entrance weren't fast enough. They breathed in the powder, fell to the ground foaming at

the mouth.

Covering his face, the man looked utterly grim. He hadn't expected such a frail- looking rich girl to pull

something like this-killing Thomas and taking out several of his men with poison.

Grinding his teeth, he growled, “Damn it, this woman's no joke! Listen up, all of you! | don’t care what it takes-

bring her back! | want her alive or | want her corpse!”

After diving out the window, Sloane rolled into the grass and used the tall weeds for cover as she sprinted toward

the woods. Her heart pounded like a drum; all she could hear was the wind and her own ragged breath. She

knew-she had to get as far from this place as possible. If they caught her again, what awaited her would be

worse than death.

She hadn’t even noticed when she lost her shoes. Her feet were torn open by rocks and brambles, already

soaked in blood-but none of it mattered. One thought burned in her mind. Run!

But the footsteps behind her grew louder. The killers had already picked up her trail.

Gritting her teeth, Sloane pushed herself harder. Her strength was nearly gone, but

she forced her mind to stay clear, scanning for a way out. Then, suddenly, her foot slipped.

She plunged straight into a deep pit.
