The foreign-accented driver opened the door and pointed a gun at Sloane. “Get
out.”
Sloane glanced outside. There were about seven or eight of them, each with a gun strapped to their waist. The
moment she stepped out of the car, two men grabbed her and roughly yanked her arms behind her back,
binding her wrists.
A strip of tape was slapped across her mouth. She struggled, but their strength was overwhelming-there was no
way she could break free.
“Save your energy, Ms. Rivers,” the foreign driver said coolly, a trace of mockery in his voice. “You're not getting
away.”

Sloane glared at him, thrashing against their grip. | need to find a chance to escape...
She'd originally assumed the Rivers family only meant to bring her back and force her to help them out of their
crisis. She never expected they'd go so far as to hire trained killers. | was too careless this time, she realized.
Several men in black shoved her into the back of a black car. A small convoy of vehicles pulled out, each heading
in different directions, clearly a tactic to throw off anyone who might be tracking them.
Sloane was sandwiched in the middle seat; one man sat on either side, each pressing a cold gun against her
waist.
The vehicle bounced along a winding mountain road for what felt like hours before finally stopping in front of a
rundown cabin in a remote area. She was yanked out of the car and shoved into the building.
The interior was dim and damp, the air thick with the stench of mildew. Sloane was pushed into a corner, her
hands tied to a wooden post. She looked around; aside from the armed men, one rugged-looking man stood
nearby, watching her coldly.
“Ms. Rivers, welcto hell.” His deep, raspy voice carried a twisted hint of
amusement.

Without warning, the tape was ripped off her mouth; the pain was so sharp, tears sprang to her eyes.
Her whole body trembled. She sobbed as she cried out, “Who are you people? What do you want from me?”
The man smiled darkly, his voice low and menacing. “Don’t rush, Ms. Rivers. The boss gave specific instructions,
to give you a proper ‘welcome.””
A sick feeling sank in her chest. They're not here to talk.
Forcing herself to stay calm, she kept up the sobbing as a cover while rapidly thinking through any way to
escape.
The man toyed with the gun in his hand, tilting his head as he looked at her. “Any last words, Ms. Rivers?”
Sloane cried harder, screaming, “You can’t hurt me! I'm Lucas’s fiancee! He won't let you get away with this!”
The masked man didn’t flinch; if anything, his grin grew even crueler. “Lucas? | don’t care how powerful he is—
he won't save you now. Our employer gave strict orders-to assault you, kill you, and record the whole thing.”
A chill surged through her entire body. These people... they weren't sent by the Rivers family. They're from
someone else. And they're here to kill me.
“Boss, quit wasting time,” one of the hitmen said impatiently as he stepped forward. “Let the boys have their
turn so we can wrap this up and collect the money.”
The rugged man gave a nod, his eyes glinting with cold cruelty. “Ms. Rivers, if you die tonight, don’t blus.
Blyourself for crossing the wrong people.”
Sloane broke down, sobbing and thrashing. “Get away from me! Don’t cany closer-don’t touch me!”
She cried as she frantically scanned the room, desperate to spot anything that might offer a chance to escape.
