Sloane gripped her phone tightly, her eyes locked on the message as a storm of emotions churned inside her.

Conrad sneered, his tone full of disdain. “That ungrateful brat really thought she'd be safe hiding in Blackhawk?
What a joke. This time, I'm going to teach her a lesson she won't forget.”
After seeing Helen off, Conrad immediately dialed a secret number. “Sloane agreed to the meeting. Are your
people ready?”
A low male voice answered from the other end. “Don’t worry. Everything's in place. As soon as she shows up,
we'll move in. She won't have a chance to slip away,”
Conrad gave a satisfied nod. “I don’t care what kind of beef you have with her. But | want her alive when it’s
over. Sloane is our last bargaining chip-she’s useless to us dead.”

As soon as Sloane stepped out of the school gates, her phone buzzed.

She glanced down to see a message from an unknown number: “Ms. Rivers, the meeting location has changed.
Head to the old warehouse in the east side of the city.”
She frowned but still told the driver to turn around and head to the old warehouse. However, when she arrived,
the place was completely empty. Then another message cthrough: “Location change. Cto the
abandoned factory in the north part of the city immediately.”
Sloane sneered inwardly. They're trying to throw off anyone | might've brought with me. Classic misdirection.
As soon as she got into a cab, she sensed something wasn’t right. The driver wore a face mask and a cap, his
entire face covered. Her instincts on high alert, she quietly reached into her bag and wrapped her fingers around
her stun gun.
When they reached a major intersection, the car should've stopped for the red light—but instead, the driver
suddenly hit the gas, swerved sharply, and ran the light, driving the wrong way into a narrow, deserted road.
The jolt threw Sloane's body to the side, but she quickly stabilized herself. Glancing back toward the intersection,
she saw a major accident unfolding behind them-her people hadn't made it through.
“Who are you?” Sloane asked, her voice eerily calm.
The driver answered coldly, “If Ms. Rivers wants the truth, then sit still and behave.”
The stiff accent in his voice gave him away immediately.
She noted, growing even more alert. Foreigner
Sure enough, the car drove just a short distance before pulling into a remote area -where several other vehicles
were already waiting.
