Owen leaned against his seat, staring blankly into the void. After a long moment, he finally started the car.

Hailey sat quietly, slowly pressing her lips together, turning to gaze out the window. The confined space felt

stifling.

The drive was silent.

Instead of going to Charm, Owen stopped in front of a restaurant.

“Let's grab something to eat before heading over,” he said softly, stepping out of the car.

Hailey hesitated for a moment, then followed suit and got out of the car.

The restaurant was a cozy, mid-scale place. Owen walked ahead with his usual composed gait, and Hailey

followed at a measured pace.

They didn’t enter a private room, opting instead to sit in the main dining area on the first floor.

Hailey felt uneasy, sitting directly across from Owen. She didn’t look up, but she could feel his eyes on her.

She was afraid to meet his gaze. If she did, she knew that all her emotions-the sorrow, the longing-would be

impossible to hide.

Owen studied her.

She had changed so much since a few years ago. Back then, she had been gentle, lively, and so real in front of

him. But now, she was silent, avoiding revealing her true feelings.

Owen's eyes were deep and distant, his expression unreadable, as though it held emotions no one else could

decipher.

The waiter brought over their steaks and salads.

They ate in silence, neither of them speaking a word.

When the meal ended, Owen went to pay.

They returned to the car, and as they settled in, Owen suddenly spoke. “We were together for a year, and then

apart for five.”

Hailey lifted her gaze to meet his.

“Hailey,” he said, his voice steady, but with a faint bitterness, “you have a cold heart.”

He had never let go, but Hailey had always been rational.

Hailey’s heart clenched. She turned away, unable to respond.

Owen started the car, and they headed toward Charm. The sky was growing darker, and the bar was becoming

lively.

They headed straight to the fourth-floor private room.

The moment they opened the door, the sounds of chatter and music filled the room. Gracie, who had been

singing, immediately dropped the microphone and rushed toward Owen with a bright smile.

Owen's usually stoic face softened into a faint, warm smile. He raised his hand and gently placed it around

Gracie’s shoulders in a natural, affectionate gesture.

The people in the room called out to them, laughing and chatting.

Hailey stood behind, biting her lip, and softly said, “Miss Burke.”

Gracie turned to her with a perfectly natural expression, not the least bit uncomfortable as she had been before,

when the had treated Hailey like an interloper. She walked over and took Hailey’s hand, saying, “Why call me

Miss Burke? If you like, just callby my name.”

Hailey froze for a moment, a small smile tugging at her lips. She didn’t reply, merely lening Gracie lead her

inside and introduce her to everyone.

“These are my friends, and this is Hailey, Owen's cousin. Let's all say hello.”

The people in the room, all of Gracie’s friends, were polite to Hailey, considering it a favor to Gracie.

Hailey smiled and was shown to a corner of the couch to sit. Since Gracie seemed to want Owen close to her, she

sat beside him. Hailey ended up sitting on the other side of the sofa, right next to Gracie, with Owen beside her.

Though it was meant to be a welcdinner for Gracie, she often had to get up to stir the conversation, so most

of the time, Owen ended up sitting closest to her.

The atmosphere in the room was noisy and boisterous, while Hailey remained quiet. She glanced at the time. It

was still early, and she planned to leave soon after finding a good excuse.

The atmosphere made her uncomfortable.

“If you truly wishwell, Hailey, stay until the end of the night,” Owen suddenly spoke from across the table,

lifting a glass of wine.

Hailey blinked, turning to him.

The vibrant lights from the room flickered across his face, highlighting his handsome, cold features. He took a sip

of wine. his expression impassive.

It was as though the words he had just spoken had been a figment of her imagination.

Hailey lowered her head, not responding.

“Since both of you are here, it’s a rare opportunity. | say, why don’t you two, lovebirds, sing a duet?” A woman

with long straight hair suggested, laughing.

Owen said nothing.

Gracie, hopeful, turned to Owen. “Owen, can we?”

Hailey looked down, gripping the glass in her hand tightly.

Owen nodded, his expression neutral. “Of course.”

The room erupted in cheers.

Everyone was shocked that Owen agreed, as he had always been so distant and cold in public. No one had

expected him to accept such an offhand suggestion.

Owen stood up and walked toward Gracie.

Under the lights, they were a stunning pair-he, with his striking features and grace; she, beautiful and radiant.

The two of them chose a romantic foreign song to perform-a soft, melodic duet with a slow, gentle rhythm.

Owen's voice was soothing, and when he softened, he was the kind of man who could make any woman's heart

flutter.

Gracie was completely enraptured by Owen's tender gaze. As they sang together, their gazes locked, and it was

as if the world around them disappeared.

Hailey sat there, watching them, her heart aching.

Her expression was neutral, but inside, the pain was unbearable.

She now understood why Owen had asked her to stay.

He wanted to hurt her.

He knew everything.

He knew that she still loved him and couldn't let go, so he deliberately kept her there to watch him being

affectionate with another woman.

In the kaleidoscope of lights, Hailey’s face was pale.

The gathering lasted until midnight.

Hailey didn’t drink a single drop of alcohol, yet her face was clouded with discomfort, and by the end of the

night, Gracie assumed she wasn’t feeling well.

As everyone began to leave, Gracie, who had drunk quite a bit, climbed into the back seat of the car and fell

asleep.

Hailey didn’t sit in the front passenger seat either; she joined Gracie in the back.

Owen, unaffected by the alcohol, remained composed as he drove. His demeanor was still cool and rational.

He dropped Hailey off at the entrance to her apartment complex.

Hailey stepped out of the car, and before she could even turn around, Owen immediately started the car and

sped off, as though he couldn’t bear to linger for even a second longer.

Hailey stood frozen for a moment, her eyes slightly red, then turned to head inside.

But just as she did, a shadow suddenly appeared beside her.

Before she could react, a figure swung a brick towards her head, hitting her hard.

Dazed, Hailey turned her head, her vision blurry, and saw a face that was both familiar and strange.
