Chapter 190

Hailey smiled at the two women and greeted them casually, “Hello”

Then her gaze settled on one of them.

The woman, Emily, seemed oddly nervous. She quickly stood up and asked, “Hailey, do you need something

from me?”

“Don’t be nervous, Emily,” Hailey said, her tone calm and measured,

Perhaps it was the cool, distant air Hailey naturally exuded, but it seemed to make people uneasy, as though she

were hard to approach.

Emily grew more nervous.

Hailey asked, “Did you cinto my office yesterday?”

Emily nodded honestly. “Yes, | cin yesterday afternoon to deliver sdocuments.”

As soon as she said that, Emily nervously added, “Did you lose something?”

“Were you wearing a black short-sleeve shirt yesterday?” Hailey asked without answering directly.

Emily nodded again. “Yes.”

Just then, someone entered the room.

“What are you two talking about?” It was Bailee Strickland, another female colleague from the Translation

Department. Bailee was a new intern at the company, sweet and cute, and everyone treated her like the

younger sister of the group.

Hailey smiled faintly at Bailee to acknowledge her.

But Bailee seemed to avoid Hailey’s gaze, looking slightly uncomfortable.

Hailey narrowed her eyes and asked, “Emily, has anyone else worn your clothes?”

Emily shook her head, “No, it's just a short-sleeve shirt. Who would wear it?”

At these words, Bailee’s face grew tense. She silently walked to her seat.

Hailey then asked, “Has anyone else bought the sshirt?”

Bailee’s heart skipped a beat.

Emily hesitated for a few seconds before looking at Bailee and saying, “Bailee, did you buy the sblack short-

sleeve shirt | have?”

Bailee tried to remain composed. She raised her head, casually brushing a lock of hair behind her ear. “Which

shirt?” she asked, feigning ignorance.

Emily said, “The one you complimentedon at the end of last month, the black one. | even sent you the store

link.”

Bailee tilted her head, as if thinking. Then, as if realizing, she said, “Ah, | remember now. But | just saved the

store and didn’t place the order yet. What's going on? Is something wrong?”

“You two, cwith me,” Hailey said. She felt it would be better to discuss things privately, for their professional

sake. She motioned for both women to follow her into her office.

Chapter 190

Once inside, Hailey said, “I have a video here. | want both of you to watch it.”

She stood up and said coldly, “Yesterday at 10 a.m., | called Mia into my office, and our convertation was leaked.

The security footage shows that, during that time, a woman in black was loitering outside my office. And the only

person in the Translation Department who wore black yesterday was Emily.”

Emily's face drained of color. “Hailey, it wasn’t me. | didn’t go into your office yesterdaymorning

Emily had been with the company for a while, and though the incident didn’t have major consequences, the

behavior w incredibly inappropriate-ecording a superior’s conversation.

If they hadn't been talking about something trivial, but company secrets?

That would be considered a breach of business ethics.

In the worst-case scenario, the company could hold her accountable, blacklist her from the industry, or even fire

her.

Such a matter had to be clarified.

“But Emily, you were the only one in the department who wore black yesterday,” Bailee spoke up, her voice a

little shaky

Emily's face was ashen, and she was on the verge of tears. “It wasn’t me, | swear.”

“Then it must have been someone from outside our department, but there are so many people. How are we

supposed to figure this out?” Bailee shook her head in frustration.

“No need to look anymore. I've already found out,” ca voice from the doorway.

Mia appeared at the door, holding a bag in her hand. She walked in with a half-smile, approaching Bailee and

holding up a black shirt from the bag, revealing it in front of Bailee’s pale face. “Found it at your workspace,

Bailee. Are you not going to explain?”

Emily froze, then rushed toward Bailee, slapping her across the face with all her strength, shouting, “You framed

me!

“This is not the place for your childish fights,” Hailey said sternly. “I'll report this, and whatever the boss decides,

we'll follow Now, go back to your work.”

Mia looked at Hailey and snorted coldly.

Emily gritted her teeth, glaring at Bailee before turning to Hailey and muttering, “Yes.”

In the afternoon, Hailey reported the matter to her superior.

The impact of this situation wasn’t small-especially considering the severity of the behavior. For people in their

line of work, the worst thing was a leak of company secrets.

The Translation Department was important. If Bailee were a corporate spy, then everything the department had

worked on recently could have been exposed.

The thought of that was troubling.

But since Hailey had already reported it, she didn’t need to worry further.

After finishing her tasks, Hailey still left work on time.

Gracie had sent her the details for a gathering. It would be at a bar called “Charm.”

“It’s a bit far, and you'll likely have trouble getting a cab since it’s rush hour. | had Owen go to pick you up. This

way, you two can have a moment alone to talk and hopefully clear up any misunderstandings.”

Chapter 190

Hailey’s heart skipped a beat when she saw the message from Gracie on WhatsApp.

She looked up and glanced at the street.

Not far from the company’s entrance, a black car was parked.

The familiar license plate number.

She stood there for a moment, then, with a sigh, steeled herself and walked over.

As soon as she reached the car, the window rolled down automatically.

Inside the car, there was no one else-only Owen, sitting in the driver's seat, his expression indifferent.

He didn’t even glance at her.

Hailey reached for the passenger door and sat down.

The moment she did, Owen locked the doors, and the windows rolled back up, sealing them in the car together.

Hailey felt an inexplicable wave of anxiety.

Owen turned his head slightly to look at her, his cold, handsface reflecting her image in his eyes.

Hailey swallowed and couldn't help but say, “Your girlfriend's still waiting for us.”

Owen didn’t speak, just continued to look at her, his

gaze

unreadable.

Hailey felt the intensity of his stare making her skin crawl.

“Next month,” Owen said suddenly.

“What?” Hailey was surprised.

“I'm getting engaged. To someone else,” he continued.

Hailey’s eyes contracted, and her hand, resting on her lap, involuntarily curled into a fist.

She looked at Owen's sharp, beautiful features for a long tbefore finally saying, “Congratulations.”

Owen's eyes remained fixed on her, deep and contemplative, as if he wanted to say something. But all the words

seemed to drown in her calm, indifferent “congratulations.”

Hailey shifted her gaze, offering him a faint smile. “Owen, you need to take care of Miss Burke. She’s a wonderful

person.”

Owen said nothing. He lowered his head and, almost imperceptibly, curled the corner of his lips into a smile.
