Chapter 192

Chapter 192

A cold splash of water hit Hailey’s face, snapping her back to consciousness,

The woman lying on the floor twitched her lashes before slowly opening her eyes.

As soon as she regained her senses, a sharp pain struck the back of her head. The air was heavy with the smell

of rust.

In her blurry vision, the outline of a woman emerged.

She was sitting in a leather chair, wearing a white dress.

Years had passed, and the woman before Hailey was no longer the same. She had becthinner, like a

skeleton, lacking the vitality she once had.

“Alice, long tno see,” Hailey said faintly as she sat up from the floor, gazing at the woman who had almost

lost her original appearance.

Alice sneered, her voice low and cold, “Yes, Hailey, long tno see.”

Five years in a psychiatric hospital, and she had managed to escape-all driven by the hatred she felt for Hailey.

In a twisted way, she even had to thank Hailey.

Alice's eyes gleamed with malice as she looked down at the woman on the floor.

These five years had been a living nightmare for Alice, while Hailey had lived a comfortable life.

Hailey was bound, her head pounding with excruciating pain. She could feel the blood soaking her back, her

whole body drenched in it.

Alice held a baseball bat in her hand, standing up. The bat scraped against the floor with a metallic sound.

“Hailey, looks like you're not doing so well either. | thought you and Owen would last, after all, he sentto the

psych ward for you. But now, look at you, you're just as disappointing as | am,” Alice taunted.

Hailey’s breath cin shallow gasps as she closed her eyes.

She had lost so much blood, and her body felt weak.

Alice’s eyes turned wild and furious as she glared at Hailey. “Tell me, if | kill you here today, do you think Owen

will cto avenge you?”

“He has a new girlfriend now, so he probably won't care about you anymore,” Alice mused with a twisted sense

of satisfaction.

Hailey closed her eyes, trying to block out Alice’s cruel words.

Alice laughed bitterly, her voice rising. “You could never have imagined dying like this, right? Hailey, what's so

funny is that the man who once sent someone to the psych ward for you is now moving on, leaving you behind.”

She laughed until tears formed in her eyes.

Hailey spoke softly, her voice barely above a whisper, “He hasn't moved on. He's not splayboy.”

“Oh? So, you're still in love with him?” Alice sneered. “How pathetic. But sadly, | doubt he'd go to great lengths

for you now.”

Hailey didn’t respond.

Alice smirked as she pulled out a phone, saying, “Let’s make a bet, Hailey, If Owen can find you within twelve

hours, I'll let you go. If he can’t find you, or if he doesn’t even bother to show up, then we both die together?

Hailey looked at her but didn’t speak.

She was completely at Alice’s mercy, unable to fight back. Her hands and legs were tightly bound, leaving her

utterly helpless.

Alice snapped a photo and sent it to someone.

Then, she stood up, walking around the warehouse, sprinkling gasoline everywhere.

The smell of gasoline filled the air, and Hailey coughed a couple of times before instinctively lowering her head

and holding her breath.

No one knew if Owen would come. Hailey wasn’t sure either.

When Owen received the message, he was at the airport.

His eyes widened in shock as he saw the photo.

Right after that, his phone rang.

It was from the hospital.

“Mr. Calhoun, something's wrong! Miss Gibbs is missing!” the person on the other end said, panic in their voice.

“I know,” Owen replied coldly.

“Owen, it's tto board,” Gracie called out from behind him.

Owen turned to look at her, his expression cold and distant. “She’s in trouble.”

Gracie froze, her face filled with concern.

Before she could ask anything, Owen turned on his heel and walked out.

Tpassed slowly, each second feeling like an eternity.

Hailey’s vision blurred. She felt dizzy, her body drained of strength, as if she were a fish slowly dying from

dehydration.

Six hours had passed, and still, there was no word from the outside.

The place seemed like an abandoned warehouse, but Hailey had no idea where it was located.

Achusville was vast, and traveling across it from east to west took hours. Round trip, that would be at least four

hours. Hailey had no idea how much tshe had left.

Perhaps, she really would die here.

To die after coming back to life... Hailey couldn't help but feel a sense of shame.

She had once vowed to live a brilliant life, to make everyone happy. But now, everything had fallen apart.

The gap between her and the Brown family was insurmountable. She had never even met her mother, and she

couldn't bring herself to honor someone who nearly killed her.

Hailey’s vision grew darker, and her body slumped against the wa

Her mind involuntarily drifted to the memories of the tdue spent with Owen

They had talked about getting married, about spending forever ugether

But in the end, tand change washed away their promises

What were the chances of two people falling in love? And what were the chances of them are oper

Though they couldn't be together forever, Hailey realized that having loved was worth it

She had lived through it.

Leaning against the wall, Hailey murmured, “Don’t come, Owen. Your life can be more brilliant. Don’t rain it for

anyone. It’s

not worth it.”

She wasn't sure if it was because she missed him so much, but Hailey, in her haze, suddenly see Greer’s face in

front of her

He was wearing a black suit, his tall figure walking toward her from the light, step by step.

“Owen...” Hailey whispered his nsoftly.

She thought, | must be dying. It was said that people see the ones they most want to see before they die. If that

was true, then death didn’t seem so bad.

She thought optimistically, ‘I can see him one last time, and then | can close my eyes peacefully!

Finally, Hailey couldn't hold on anymore and passed out.

Owen bent down in front of her, gazing at the unconscious woman. His eyes stormed with fury. Without a word,

be carefully cradled her in his arms, as though holding something precious.

“I didn’t expect you to come,” Alice’s twisted voice echoed from the shadows as she stepped forward, holding

the baseball bat, her grin crazed.

Owen looked up at her, his eyes colder than ice.

Alice laughed twice before pointing at Hailey in his arms. “Owen, is she worth it?”
