Scarlett was a carefree, optimistic person, and Hailey felt at ease with her. They laughed, shared stories, and
before long, it was already 5 p.m.
Scarlett went to pay the bill while Hailey crossed the street to grab a coffee.
As she exited the café, Hailey immediately spotted a tall figure by the black car on the other side of the street.
Despite the crowd, she recognized him instantly. It was Owen.
He stood there with his usual impassive expression, and Richard seemed to be talking to him.
It had only been a week, but to Hailey, it felt like a century had passed.
When they hadn't seen each other, she could barely sleep, thinking of him, dreaming of him, but now, seeing
him in person made her realize just how madly she missed him.
She wanted to rush to him, to embrace him, kiss him, and let herself bask in his affection.
Her feet almost moved on their own.
Suddenly, Hailey stopped in her tracks and stared at him, frozen.
A figure emerged from the restaurant where she and Scarlett had just dined. She recognized him immediately.
It was Parker.
Today, Owen was finally meeting him, and today they would officially acknowledge each other as father and son.
Hailey’s eyes dimmed.
All her chaotic thoughts were instantly shattered.
What reason did she have to approach him now?
They no longer had any connection.
Even if they did, they were now cousins.
When Scarlett finished paying, she noticed Owen standing at the corner, looking in the direction of the

She turned to him, saying, “She’s not there. Stop looking.”
Scarlett didn’t know the details of what had happened between them, only that Hailey had told her they could
never be together again.
She was a rational person, and though her heart leaned toward Hailey, she wouldn't be cruel to Owen.
Owen's face was cold, and he said nothing.
There was nothing more to say, so Scarlett turned and left.
Owen stood there for a moment, then walked into the restaurant with Parker.
Hailey crossed the street and walked toward Scarlett.

Scarlett grabbed her hand and led her to the car.
Upstairs in the restaurant, Owen stood by the window, his expression distant as he watched the woman below.
“Owen, csit down,” Parker called from the table.

It wasn’t until the two women disappeared from his sight that Owen withdrew his gaze and took a seat across
from Parker.
Parker, feeling uneasy, nervously wiped his hands, sweating under the pressure of this first meeting.
“So, what do you want to eat? It’s my treat today,” Parker said, trying to make small talk.
Owen raised his head, his cold eyes landing on Parker's face. “Did | ever say you were my father?”
Those words made Parker's face pale.
He had thought that Owen was willing to meet him, willing to accept him, but now, it was clear he had been
mistaken.
“I agreed to meet you today because | have two things to say,” Owen continued, his voice cutting through the
silence of the private room.
“First, | won't acknowledge you. Even if we share the sblood, | won't accept you as my father. I've never
met my biological mother, but I'm sure she lovedenough to givelife. You, on the other hand, are not a
father. You're a criminal.”.
Parker's lips trembled, his face ashen.
Owen didn’t care about his emotions and kept speaking, “Second, the Henderson family is wealthy now. If you
insist on acknowledgingpublicly, | can’t stop you. But | will publicly state that | don’t recognize you as my
father. If you want to cause a scene, I'll play along. The Calhoun nis mine for life, and don’t think for a
second I'll ever take your last name.”
Parker's shaking hand covered his eyes as he apologized, “I'm sorry, I'm sorry for what happened to you and
your mother. Back then, | was reckless and made so many mistakes, especially with Isabelle Lane...”
“But I've already been punished for it,” he added.
The Lane family hadn't let Parker go, and they had taken him to court. He had spent many years in prison.
“Owen, | really want to make up for my mistakes. | want to make things right,” Parker said, his voice shaking.
“Make up for it?” Owen let out a low, bitter laugh. “You want to make up for it by tearingand Hailey apart?”
“That's not what | meant.” Parker quickly tried to explain. “Owen, you have to understand, even if | didn’t show
up, you and Hailey would never be together. She's your cousin. You have a blood relation!”
Owen's eyes darkened, and he said nothing.
Parker thought Owen had taken it in and continued, “I know this is painful for you, but there’s nothing we can do.
You two are not meant to be.”
the
“Whether you acknowledgeor not, whether you return to the Henderson family, Owen, you two have no
future together. It’s better to let go, for both of you.”
Owen lowered his gaze and remained silent.
The meal stretched on in silence.

It was clear-he didn’t acknowledge Parker as his father.
But likewise, he and Hailey had no future together.

Half a month later, a servant knocked on Hailey’s door and softly called, “Miss, it’s tfor breakfast.”
Hailey lazily replied, then opened the door. She was wearing a blue sleep dress, her skin fair and soft from just
waking up.
“Where's Dad?” she asked.
“Mr. Henderson has already left for work. He left breakfast for you, the servant replied.
Hailey nodded and went to wash up.
She had returned to the Henderson family and was living the life she had during the two years of amnesia.
She didn’t know how Finley had built up such a powerful business empire after disappearing for so many years,
but she didn’t feel like asking. Even if she did, her father wouldn't tell her.
After washing up, she went downstairs for breakfast.
She wasn’t very hungry, so she only had a little before setting her utensils aside.
The servant approached and said, “Miss Henderson, Mr. Henderson wants you to meet a guest in the restaurant
at 3 p.m.”
“Got it,” Hailey answered softly, then went back to her room to rest.
It was still early.
She slept until noon and then had a light lunch. Only then did she start preparing herself. To get to the restaurant
on time, she needed to leave about an hour and a half earlier to avoid traffic.
At 2 p.m., Hailey got in a private car to head to the restaurant.
It was an old-fashioned restaurant that was very popular, even overseas. The hall was packed with people.
