Chapter 28
Nola convinced herself to squander Elvis’ money, but their first stop was a bookstore.
Elvis would give her the recommendation, but it couldn't guarantee she would pass the interview. Nola cherished
the opportunity Elvis gave. Linda looked at Nola selecting the book and sighed.

“Girl, you slept with him. Why didn’t you just seize the opportunity and tell him you wanna join his design
department? Why do you have to take the interview in person? Con. You are Mrs. Grayson.”
Nola handed a selected book to Linda and seriously replied, “That will be so not me. He gavethe
recommendation, so now | have to work harder to prove that | am qualified. | don’t want to bring shon him.”
Nola was a stubborn girl. She paid a lot to get his recommendation so that she would prove she deserved the
chance.
Also, they were not a real couple. Nola wouldn't count on Elvis.

Linda shrugged. “Girl, you never enjoy. When a girl marries into a rich family, she will first ask for a grand
wedding, noting everyone in the world that she’s rich now. She will pay for luxuries, skincare, manicure, and
other stuff. Look at you. ‘Squandering’ his money in the bookstore. How rich.”
Nola quietly listened. She understood Linda’s worry.
Linda hoped that Nola would at least gain something from the marriage, something besides torment. But Nola
knew what she wanted. She didn’t need his money, but the path was leading to money.
“You absolutely can conquer the world with your beauty and curves, but, no, you wanna make it through your
talent. What is on your mind?”

“Stop complaining. My mom is fine now, and | have an interview with the Grayson Group. And | don’t need to
cope with Tanya and Lelia, do I? This is good enough.
“You're easily satisfied. People will take advantage of you! If you don’t use his money, sother women will
squander them for you!”
Nola lightly smiled. It was not her money. Squandering that money would only be her burden.
After they left the bookstore, they two went to the mall since Elvis wanted Nola to buy snew clothes. Those
dresses were cute, but their price tags weren't. Nola didn’t make up her mind to buy any.
The two tired girls decided to rest in the coffee shop, and Linda suddenly said, “Elvis is affectionate. Since you
have slept with him, why don’t you make smore efforts to win his heart?”
Nola recalled what Elvis said and repeated it to Linda, “He said he wouldn't fall in love with someone else.”
“Seriously?” Nola nodded. If she knew he had someone in his heart but still tried to win his heart, it would only
ruin their peaceful life.
And Nola would see herself as the other woman.
“But that girl is dead. And he is now your husband. What are you worried about? You are husband and wife now.
Love will easily grow. The other woman? Con. You are never the other woman!”
“Yeah, she’s dead, but Elvis never forgets her. Are you saying I should fight a dead girl?”
“But don’t you feel sorry for him? Honey, he is a great man in business and in life. Tell me. When there are just
you and him, is your heart racing?”

“My heart racing?” Nola dropped into silence, questioning herself.
She didn’t have the answer. But she knew that when he approached, she blushed. Was that a normal reaction, or
love?
Elvis, along with his cold expression and his considerate behavior, appeared in her mind, which perturbed her.
“I don’t know.” Nola took a sip of the coffee, unnerved, avoiding Linda’s eyes.
“Don’t tellyou fell in love with him after the sex, but you are still unaware of this fact!”
“How is it possible?! We've only known each other for a short time.”
“Tdoesn’t matter! If it's someone you dislike, I'm sure you will kill him after you have sex with him. But you
easily accepted the fact. Have you noticed that all we talked about today is him? Are you sure you're not in love
with him?”

“We're only talking about him because you keep asking questions about him!” However, Linda’s question
lingered in Nola’s mind. Did she really fall in love with Elvis without knowing it?
She did enjoy his kindness a lot. Nola was lost when she thought about their recent days. She wondered if she
was that kinda stupid girl.
Linda shrugged and swiped her phone. Suddenly, she patted Nola’s shoulder, taking Nola aback.
“What the hell?!”
“Girl, you have to see this. If | were you, | would do anything | could to get him! | swear you will regret it if you

It was a post on Twitter. The photo attached was Mr. Hill being arrested, who was the dean of the hospital Nola’s
mother used to be treated. And the post read: [Recently, the dean of shospital, is accused of maltreatment
of patients and misuse of medicine. There is an illegal transaction between Mr. Hill and drug dealers. Mr. Hill is
arrested according to law.]
Just after Nola’s mother was transferred, Mr. Hill was arrested, and the hospital was shut down. All the crimes Mr.
Hill had committed were listed. He was doomed already.
“Everyone can tell that this Mr. Hill must have offended sbig bug. Or what he had done wouldn't have been
exposed so quickly. Nola, are you going to tellthat this has nothing to do with you? Please, don’t, because |
swear with my life that this must have everything to do with your husband. Aw, how sweet!”
“Uh, maybe it's just a coincidence,” Nola said, trying to convince herself that Elvis wouldn't do such a thing for
her. Well, Mr. Hill deserved it, though.
But then, she received a message from Damion, telling her the hospital thing was settled. Now she had to accept
the fact that Elvis did it for her sake.
‘But why? I'm his legal wife, but we are just a fake couple. He doesn’t have to do it for me.
Does he..."
“Now, everything's clear! Honey, just go for him. You're the sweetest girl. | have faith in you! You are not so cruel
that you plan to see him immersed in sorrow forever, right? You two gotta start your new life!”
“Shut up and eat your cake.” Nola quickly changed the topic, but her innermost feelings could not be composed
for a long tbecause of that post.
“Elvis is... a great husband,” Nola thought.
