Chapter 23

Elvis leht, leaving Nola standing there feeling gloomy.

“How could | tell if you are pleased or not? Nola thought to herself. Was that only a ruse to make her please him,

and he would refuse her no matter what?

But working in Grayson Group would be like a dream ctrue!

Nola was torn all morning, and finally, she decided to make an effort for the sake of her future.

One should know when to yield and when not. Nola had done this before. She was willing to do what she could to

ge from Elvis.

Nola was determined to butter him up tonight!

How would she do that, though? That was the problem.

Nola was a straightforward girl. She had never coaxed anyone before and wanted to do it while maintaining her

dignity, which could be tricky. Alisa was amused seeing Nola happy in one moment and vexed in another.

Breeze Garden was brimming with vigor and vitality since Mrs. Grayson got here, and Mr. Grayson seemed

happier than before, which was a promising sign. Alisa put sfruit in front of Nola and left quietly without

disturbing her thought

Nola racked her brain, trying to find the best way to please Elvis and make him say yes, but she couldn't. Nola

had no choice but to seek help from her best friend Linda, who quickly responded: [Honey trap.]

Nola was confused. She didn’t get it. Linda stole out and called Nola, “What's not to understand? You are a smart

girl, Nola. You know what | was suggesting. Take the initiative and be intimate with Elvis. He will say yes to

anything you ask once he is satisfied.”

“That's terrible advice, Linda.” Nola’s face blushed when she realized what Linda was saying. The image of Elvis

kissing her emerged in Nola’s head, which made her heart race suddenly.

“You guys are married, for God's sake. There is nothing to be ashamed of. Are you afraid you are not attractive to

him? You've been living together for stnow. Didn't you do that?”

“No, of course not! We respect each other. Nola reassured herself that such a thing would never happen between

them.

“Oh, con. Why not? You are gorgeous, and he’s a man. How could he restrain himself in front of you? Do you

perhaps... gay?”

“Oh, that would be horrible!” Nola stood up suddenly. What an interesting presumption.

think he’s

“So? What's his deal, Nola?” Linda pursued. Nola wasn’t sure either. Elvis had no woman around him, only an

assistant named Damion.

Nola soon realized that they had digressed. She changed her tone and said, “Be serious, girl. | really need the

opportunity.”

had to tell you this.”

“Would that work for Elvis Grayson?”

“If it doesn’t, you can always give him sdrinks. He'll say yes when he’s drunk.”

Chapter 23

“That's good! Thanks, Linda You are the best! Linda was right. It shouldn't be too hard. Nola remembered her

promise of treating Elvis to dinner when he helped her last time.

She couldn't afford to take him out for dinner. The only choice left was to cook a homemade meal for him. Nola

would butter Elvis up and give him sdrinks if necessary.

“Ok, let's do this!” Nola decided. Next, she had to get Alisa on board,

Alisa, can | ask you something?” Nola greeted Alisa warmly and inquired about Elvis‘ favorite food and other

preferences.

After learning what Elvis liked the most from Alisa, Nola was in a dilemma. He sounded fastidious, and Nola

wasn’t much of a cook. All she could make was sordinary dishes. Therefore, she decided to cook her

specialty dishes based on his preferences.

“Ill cook for tonight. Alisa,”

“No, Mrs. Grayson. | can’t let you do that. Mr. Grayson will punishif he finds out.”

“Please, Alisa. Elvis helpeda great deal before, and | promised to treat him to dinner sometime. But he must

be tired from eating outside, so | thought he would like a home-cooked dinner. Alisa, please letdo this.”

Alisa immediately understood that it was a way for young people to express love for each other, and she'd better

stay out of

it

There was only one concern...

“Are you sure you can cook. Mrs. Grayson?”

Nola reassured Alisa confidently, “Don’t worry, Alisa. | know what I’m doing. I'm not a fancy chef, but | know how

to cook home-style dishes.”

Most ingredients were readily available in the kitchen, but Nola needed fish. She took a bike and went to buy one

while she was free

Nola sent Elvis a message before cooking.

Elvis had just finished a meeting when he saw the message from Nola: [Are you coming hfor dinner? |

promised to treat you to dinner, and I'll honor it tonight.]

Elvis slightly raised his eyebrows. He knew Nola was doing it to get the recommendation letter from him.

He replied: [Okay.]

Elvis seemed to be happy. He was curious about what Nola would cook for him.

Back in the Breeze Garden, Alisa was a little worried about Nola. It was hard to find any young girls nowadays

that could cook. However, she found Nola quite skilled at cutting and all. Alisa was relieved. Mr. Grayson found

himself a great wife.

Since Elvis couldn't have anything spicy, Nola’s food was lightly flavored, including steamed fish, soup, and other

vegetables. It took her almost an entire afternoon to prepare them, but it wasn’t that bad as Alisa was there to

help.

It was already evening when everything was finally ready. Nola just had to wait for Elvis to chome. She knew

what she would say to him, but she got nervous as the tdrew near.

“Was it really okay to do this?” Nola wondered.

It was Linda's idea. If anything went wrong, she would be the one to blame.
