Chapter 158 Forget About
Me
Hadley made her appearance.
Wilma erupted upon seeing her. “Why are you here? Your presence has brought nothing but trouble for Denver!
He should be safely in Srixby, not lying here injured, if not for you!”
Hadley remained motionless, absorbing the fury.
“Leave this place!” Wilma’s accusatory finger was nearly in Hadley’s face.
Eric’s timely interference was the only thing preventing a physical altercation.
“Mrs. Moran,” Eric said, his voice laden with gravity. “The extent of Denver's injuries isn’t fully known yet.
Suppose... just suppose he asks for her?”
Wilma abruptly stopped her rant.
The possibility hung in the air-could she deny her son his last wish if it cto that?

Wilma’s hand flew to her mouth as despair seeped into her tone.
Eric didn’t let up. “And let's not forget, Mrs. Moran, the role you played in this. Your actions are why Denver is in
this condition in the first place.”
Wilma’s expression faltered, her complexion turning ghostly.
Muttering only partially, she finally conceded. “Alright, she can stay.”
Eric exhaled, relieved, and focused on Hadley.
“Did she hurt you?” he asked with concern.
Hadley stepped back, avoiding his touch, her gaze fixed upwards as if lost in another world.
“It seems whenever someone loves me, they suffer... My mother was gone when | was little, my grandmother
passed when | was fifteen, and now Denver...” Her voice was a mix of resignation and distant reflection.
Eric’s brow creased with worry. “Hadley, you shouldn't think like that.”

But Hadley seemed lost in her thoughts, barely aware of his presence. “It's always been this way... no one has
escaped pain once they step into my life.”
“Hadley...”
She shut her eyes tightly, blocking out the world, wrapped in her solitude.

Somewhere in her thoughts, she remembered Joy, another soul that loved her deeply.
Hadley wondered what she might have done to deserve such fate. Was she undeserving of love, or was there
shidden sin for which the universe made those closest to her pay?
As the evening progressed, the air turned brisk.
Eric, noticing the cold, took off his jacket and placed it over Hadley’s shoulders before she could decline.
The wait was agonizing, but finally, the surgeon emerged.
“How did the surgery go?” Wilma approached the doctor with urgency.
“He's stable and will be moved to a general room shortly,” the doctor replied.
Wilma'’s tension dissolved into tears of relief. “Oh, thank you!” she exclaimed, her relief evident.
With Denver now out of immediate danger, Eric organized the necessary care.
Later, he looked towards Hadley, who lingered at the doorway. “Would you like to see him?”
“Yes,” Hadley responded with a simple nod, her resolve clear despite the long wait.
Wilma interjected sharply, “Absolutely not!” She could not risk the delicate balance they'd just achieved being
disrupted by their meeting.
Wilma scrutinized Eric, and then her gaze shifted to Hadley with distaste, given the murky state of their
relationship.
“Mrs. Moran,” Hadley said, her tone even and resolute. “Don’t worry. | won't reveal what you've done to me. |
merely wish to bid Denver farewell. Surely you don’t wish any further misfortune upon him.”
A ripple of discomfort swept over Wilma'’s face.
Eric, catching the gravity of her words, turned to her. “Hadley, are you certain? You're here just to say goodbye?”
Hadley affirmed with a nod. “If it concerns you, feel free to accompanyinside.”
Without waiting for a response, she gently pushed the door open and entered.
Wilma, caught off guard, hesitated but followed closely behind with Eric.
Upon entering the ward, it was clear Denver was awake yet frail, barely managing to whisper.
“Denver,” Hadley murmured as she approached his bedside, observing his bandaged form. Her eyes began to
brim with tears.
Upon noticing her presence, Denver's eyes grew wide with emotion, and he struggled to speak. “Hadley...” His
voice barely audible amidst the quiet of the room.
“I'm here,” Hadley whispered as she moved closer to his bedside, her eyes scanning his injuries.
A faint smile appeared on her face despite the somber mood. “How did you end up like this, so reckless?”
Unable to respond, Denver stared at her as she spoke again, her voice breaking slightly.
“Did you do this for me?”

She chuckled sadly, tears streaming down her face. “I'm not worth this trouble, you know? You saw everything
yourself, didn’t you?”
Denver's expression changed, his head moving in a slow, pained shake.
“Denver,” she said softly, reaching out to tenderly grasp his hand.
Speaking felt like an immense effort, her voice thick with emotion.
“You're truly a wonderful man. If my life were less complicated, I'd be with you without a second thought, no
matter what your family thought.”
A tear escaped Denver's eyes, rolling down his cheek as he lay motionless.

Hadley, Hadley...
“Denver, please don’t blyourself. It’s not you; it’s me. I'm the one who failed you.”
Hadley’s gaze dropped, her tears dripping onto his hand.
“Get better, Denver. Live a good life. Remember what | said when we first met? You deserve someone truly
remarkable.”
Her voice trembled with emotion, yet every word was pronounced with clarity.
She gave Denver a radiant smile. “Forget about me, Denver... Letgo completely.”
Slowly, she pulled her hand away from his.
“Ha... Hadley...”
Denver's whisper was raspy and desperate.
He strained to maintain his grip on her, but their hands slipped apart.
“Ah...” A tear escaped him as he tried to speak again.
Hadley turned sharply, seizing Eric’s arm. “We need to leave now!”
Eric caught on immediately; she wanted Denver to witness her departure-with him.
Though irritated, Eric played along, gripping her hand firmly.
“Let's go.”
Denver's eyes, red with sorrow, followed their hands as they exited the room.
He felt utterly helpless.
On the ground floor.
Hadley let go of Eric and sank to the floor, her face hidden in her arms. Her sobs were quiet, yet her grief was
profound.
She mourned for Denver, for a romance that could never fully blossom.
