Chapter 21: Chapter 21: A Night Summons
Selene’s POV
After a long, tiring day, | had just laid down to rest. My body ached, and my eyes were heavy with sleep. For
once, | thought I could finally have a few peaceful hours without anyone yelling or shovingaround.
But that hope shattered the moment someone banged loudly on my door.
The noise was so sudden and harsh, that | sat up straight in bed, heart pounding in my chest. Before | could even
respond, the door burst open, slamming against the wall with a sharp thud.
A guard stepped in, he was tall, broad, and wearing a scowl like he had swallowed something bitter.
"Alpha Lucian is asking for your presence. Get going," he said in a stern, cold voice.
| blinked at him, stunned. Alpha Lucian? At this hour?
It was the middle of the night. The halls had gone quiet long ago. Why would he call fornow?
My stomach twisted with dread.
Something wasn’t right.
Fear settled like a stone in my chest. Was | in trouble? Had | done something wrong again? Was this punishment?
Before | could make sense of it, the guard's voice turned sharp and impatient.
"Well? Are you coming, or should | drag you there like a mutt?"
| quickly stood up, lowering my head. "I'm coming," | whispered.
He sneered, clearly enjoying the way | flinched under his glare, then turned on his heel and walked ahead. |
followed him in silence, my bare feet cold against the floor, my thoughts a mess of panic and confusion.
We moved through the Alpha quarters, but after a while, | noticed something strange—we weren't heading
toward the Alpha wing or his office. We were walking deeper into the pack’s inner territory, far from the main
buildings.
That's when a new kind of fear crept in.

What if he wasn’t really takingto Alpha Lucian?
What if he was lying?
My breath caught as | stared at the guard’s back. He was tall, strong, and clearly a trained warrior. | was just a
girl who hadn't even gotten her wolf yet. | had trained before... yes, | knew how to defend myself. But only
against other omegas or young wolves. A full-grown warrior? | wouldn't stand a chance.
Still, | had to try something. | had to be ready—just in case.
As we passed a narrow path, | saw a sharp branch lying on the ground. It was dry, splintered, and sharp enough
to pierce. | quickly grabbed it without making a sound and tucked it inside my dress, pressing it close to my side.
If he tried anything... | would go for his eyes.
Even if | couldn't win, | wouldn't be completely helpless.
We walked further, and soon, we reached a large house at the edge of the territory. | had never seen it this close
before. The lights inside glowed gold and red, and loud music spilled through the walls. | could hear laughter,
clinking glasses, and voices shouting over each other.
A party.
My blood ran cold.
| had seen parties like this before, back when I lived in the Crimson Fang Pack. | never went to them—but | knew
what happened behind those doors. | had heard the whispers.
My legs froze.
No. No, I didn’t want to go in there.
It would've been better if the guard had tried to harmin the woods. At least there, | could fight. | could run.
But this? This was like stepping into the lion’s den. A house full of drunk wolves, wild with power and no rules.
| took a step back, but the guard noticed.
He grabbed my arm and yankedforward. "Don’t even think about it," he growled.
| didn’t answer. | didn’t look at him. | just let myself be dragged, because his grip was so tight that she could feel
her bones might crack at the slightest provocation.
As the door opened and the music slammed into my ears, | lowered my eyes to the floor. | didn’t dare raise my
head. | didn’t want to see who was inside. | didn’t want anyone to seeeither.
My heart raced. My palms were sweaty. | could feel every stare prickling on my skin like needles, though | didn’t
look up to meet them.
| wished, more than anything, that I could faint. | wished | could disappear.
But I couldn't.
So | let myself be pulled inside, keeping my head down, clutching the hidden branch close to my body, and
silently praying that whatever was waiting forin that house... it wouldn't do anything to me.
| didn’t get more than a glance before the guard shovedforward.

Then | heard it. A low, humming sound.
Lucian.
He didn’t speak—just hummed softly, like he was thinking, or maybe...he was pleased with my presence here
The guard left right after. His footsteps vanished behind me, and the silence in front ofstretched long and
