Chapter 834 Not His Fault, Seriously

“Wait-why are you defending Dan?” Marie asked suddenly.

Then it hit her. To be honest, that question had been bugging her this whole ttoo.

“I'm not defending him,” Derrick said flatly.

His tone carried a mix of helplessness and disbelief.

Marie frowned. “Then why?”

“I'm not; | haven't!” he said again.

He'd already said he wouldn’t—and had no reason to-but she still kept asking why. Derrick genuinely couldn't

follow her logic anymore.

When he didn’t answer fast enough, Marie waved it off. “Forget it. Doesn't matter. I'm going to kill him anyway.”

“You haven't done enough to him already?” Derrick asked dryly.

If anyone had paid a steep price lately, it was Dan—and even the entire Ashen Pact had suffered because of it.

But for Marie, it still wasn’t enough. As long as she could find even the tiniest justification, she'd keep going after

Dan with no mercy at all. She'd shown everyone exactly what she was like when she cared-and when she didn’t.

Marie turned to grab her things again. Derrick had taken them from her earlier, and she still couldn't wrap her

head around why he’d stopped her.

“Let go of me. Tonight, | have to—*

“There's no need,” Derrick interrupted, his tone firm. “The child is mine.”

For a moment, Marie froze. “Yours?”

“The baby’s mine,” he said evenly. “So stop going after Dan, all right?”

“You-" she began, staring at him.

Something like guilt flickered in her eyes, sharp and sudden.

Her reaction caught Derrick completely off guard.

“You...” he started, frowning in confusion.

“You don’t have to do this,” she cut in quietly, her voice thick with guilt.

Derrick fell silent.

Suddenly, his head hurt worse than Dan’s probably did.

“Marie-"

“Call a doctor for me,” she said coldly. “I'm getting rid of it.”

Derrick froze. The moment he heard her say that, the color drained from his face.

Marie would never keep Dan's child; that was just who she was-fierce, decisive, and

unrelenting. She hated Dan enough to never want anything to do with him again; of course she wouldn't want

his baby.

But still...

“The baby’s mine,” Derrick said, his voice hardening. “You're not aborting it.”

Marie stared at him. “What-are you addicted to taking the blfor Dan now?”

Derrick’s eyes darkened. “Do | look like someone who takes the blfor anyone?”

Marie hesitated. Well... actually, no. It didn’t quite add up. Everything felt like a tangled mess.

Derrick stood and pulled her closer-one hand around her slender waist, the other gripping her chin and tilting

her face up.

Then he kissed her-fierce, sudden, and unyielding.

Marie went still.

Her breath hitched; her pupils constricted sharply. “You!”

She struggled to push him away, but Derrick didn’t let go. He held her tightly, leaving her no room to escape.

It wasn’t until she was breathless that he finally released her. His gaze on her was fierce, almost predatory.

Marie swallowed hard, instinctively stepping back. “You, what the heck, Derrick—"

“Listen tocarefully,” he said, his voice low and rough. “The child is mine. You're not getting rid of it. Got it?”
