Chapter 833 Logic Has Left The Building

“What? The gastroenterology department?” Stella stared at Abraham, incredulous. “No—she should've gone to

obstetrics!”

Stella thought. Gastroenterology, psychiatry-seriously? Could Derrick get any more ridiculous?

Abraham looked at her speechless expression and chuckled. “It’s their first time; they don’t have any

experience.”

“Uh...” Stella murmured.

To be fair, Derrick wasn’t the only one who'd done something absurd. That twith Eddie's doctor had been

just as bad! She'd clearly been pregnant back then, yet Eddie still went around running pointless tests.

Men. Absolutely clueless.

“Well, since he doesn’t know what he’s doing, you'd better tell Derrick everything Mom told you,” Stella said,

cheeks turning pink. “Make sure he doesn’t torment my sister.”

Abraham couldn't help but laugh. “Don’t worry; Derrick’s not the one tormenting her.”

“Huh?”

“She thinks the baby’s Dan's. She just beat him up again.”

Stella froze, her lips twitching. Her whole face twisted into an expression that could only be described as utter

disbelief.

“Dan got beaten again?”

Last time, after that mess at the hotel, Marie had decided Dan was guilty and sent people to hospitalize him.

And now...

“It’s been this long, and Derrick still hasn't explained it to her?”

Thinking about it, Stella felt even worse for Dan. He'd already paid plenty for taking the blame

He hadn’t even been the one to sleep with her, yet he got beaten then.

And now, the baby wasn’t his either, but he was still getting beaten!

“Marie can be... pretty stubborn sometimes,” Abraham said quietly.

Stella's lips twitched again. Stubborn? That was putting it mildly. She just refused to listen. Derrick could confess

straight to her face, and she still wouldn't believe a word.

“So if Derrick can’t get through to her,” Stella said, “does that mean she’s just going to keep beating Dan?”

Abraham nodded, rubbing her hair gently. “Pretty much.”

Stella fell silent.

Back in Redwood, the doctor finally managed to escape. With Marie's temper the way it was, he'd been terrified

of becoming collateral damage.

Marie, however, stood staring at the pregnancy test long after he left, glaring at it as if she could burn the two

pink lines right off it.

“This thing actually means I'm pregnant?” she asked Derrick, still not wanting to believe it.

It just seemed too ridiculous.

Marie thought. | peed on a stick, and two little red lines were supposed to mean | was pregnant? Seriously? No

ultrasound, no real proof—just that?

Derrick reached out to grab the test from her. “Stop looking at it. You're definitely pregnant.”

Even setting the test aside, her symptoms said it all-throwing up everything she ate, always sleepy, cranky

whenever she wasn’t. Every sign pointed straight to pregnancy.

Marie jerked away before he could take it, and at his calm certainty, the anger flared right back to life on her

face.

Just when Derrick thought she’d finally calmed down, she slammed the test down with a sharp crack.

“That scumbag Dan! | swear I'm going to kill him this time!”

All that scratching and hitting earlier suddenly felt way too mild. She needed to hit him a few more times at

least.

This is insane. I'm going to lose my

mind!

She shot to her feet, storming off to grab her things, clearly ready to hunt Dan down again. Derrick sighed, his

temples throbbing, and caught her by the wrist.

“Marie-"

“Let go! Don't you dare defend him!” she snapped.

He hadn't even finished speaking before she cut him off; the last thing she wanted right now was anyone saying

a kind word about Dan. Ever since that scumbag had faked his death years ago, she hadn’t stopped dreaming

about killing him. It had practically becher life's

mission.

Derrick tightened his hold on her wrist. “You—"

“You really think I'd defend him?” Derrick asked.

“Exactly! Why else would you?” she shot back.

“Why do you think that?” he asked quietly.

Marie froze. Why?

“Well... isn’t that obvious? What other reason would there be?”

Derrick just stood there, speechless. Unbelievable. He truly didn’t know what to say to her

anymore.
