“What does this have to do with Marian?” Sophia asked softly.
She remembered Marian—she’d run into her at the mall that day. The bracelet Marian wore had once belonged to her.
“Mr. Crawley thinks Marian was behind it, but we don’t have any proof,” Kent replied.
Sophia frowned, confused. “Why would she want to hurt me?”
Kent sighed. “Because she pretended to be the Frost family’s daughter—she’s in love with Mr. Crawley. If you were out of the
picture, she could take your place without question. That's why Mr. Crawley believes she had a motive.”

“I've never seen Mr. Crawley so lost, so out of control, so utterly broken,” Kent continued. “Right before the accident, you gave him
a gift you'd made yourself and wrote him a letter asking for peace. He only found them after you were gone. | don’t know what you
wrote, but after reading your letter, he suddenly coughed up a lot of blood. He just sat there, eyes red, staring at your letter,
“The doctors said it was due to extremotional stress and exhaustion—his body basically shut down to protect itself. They
called it a stress-induced episode: overwhelming grief triggered his nerves, which led to a violent reaction in his stomach, rupturing
blood vessels and causing the bleeding. In other words, he was literally sick with grief.”
“While he was unconscious, he kept calling your name, crying nonstop. Even when he woke up, he was frantic—kept asking me
over and over where you were. I'd never seen him like that, but | could see his pain and regret—regret for not loving you enough
when you were there, for not standing up for you. So many regrets...”
Kent's voice grew rough as he remembered those months with Brandon. “That was just a glimpse of what his life was like back
then. | know swounds can’t be undone, and no amount of making up for it will ever be enough, but Mr. Crawley truly has been
trying—he desperately wants to give you back everything you missed.”
He glanced at Sophia just then and saw her face streaked with tears. Her eyes were wide and brimming, staring at him in shock.
Theresa, whose hand Sophia was holding, also gazed at him, looking a bit lost
