Chapter 197

Owen puffed up his cheeks, furious, to the point where he didn’t want to speak.

Hailey, unfazed, watched him with a smirk, tilting her head. “So, what do you want for dinner tonight?”

Owen said nothing, still sulking.

“How about beef, chicken, pumpkin soup, and sgreens-well-balanced, you know?” Hailey patiently tried to

appease him.

Owen barely glanced at her, muttering a reluctant, “Fine.”

Hailey stood up, smiling. “Alright, I'll go prepare dinner.”

Immediately, Owen's face darkened. “Why not just have someone else make it?”

Hailey laughed softly. “Mr. Calhoun, didn’t you say you wanted to eat food made by me? Why the change of

heart?”

Owen grunted in irritation. “I don’t care. Right now, you're staying here with me.”

“Well, then, your dinner’s not going to happen,” she teased.

“We can always order takeout,” Owen suggested nonchalantly, despite being someone who usually cared deeply

about his diet.

Hailey chuckled. “Alright, I'll stay a little longer. At three o'clock, I'll go get dinner ready.”

Owen grudgingly agreed. He tossed the blanket aside, patted the space beside him on the bed, and raised an

eyebrow. “Chere.”

Unable to resist, Hailey walked over.

And just like that, she nearly found herself caught up in something she hadn't planned for.

Hailey flung the blanket off in frustration, storming off the bed.

Owen lay there, looking innocent, his fair skin glowing under the dim light. His eyes, glazed with desire, met

hers, and his shirt was half undone, revealing a toned chest that was too tempting to ignore.

It was enough to make anyone blush just by looking.

Hailey opened the window, letting in the cool night air to clear her head.

Taking several deep breaths, she turned to face Owen. Her voice was sharp as she pointed at him. “The doctor

said you can’t do anything too strenuous right now. Do you want your back to tear open again?”

She was on the verge of losing her patience.

Owen looked up at her with innocent eyes. “I didn’t mean to. | just couldn’t help myself.”

Hailey held back a smile, her pale cheeks flushing slightly. She kept her tone serious as she replied, “Anyway,

until you're discharged, | refuse to get close to you.”

“Hailey,” he whined, his voice almost childish.

Hailey ignored him, glancing at the clock. “We're out of food at home. | need to go to the supermarket. You stay

here and rest. Take care of yourself

Owen muttered a reluctant “fine”

Hailey promptly left the room

Now, Owen was alone in the room, sulking.

For the next several days, Owen didn’t see Hailey at all.

The meals she made were delivered by Richard, but Hailey herself never appeared.

After just three days, Richard could barely stand it anymore.

He sneaked a phone call to Hailey from the hallway. “Miss Dalton, | really can’t take it anymore. Please cand

help out.”

“Is it really that bad?” Hailey asked, her phone on speaker, sounding confused.

“Yes, Miss Dalton, please cquickly,” Richard pleaded.

“Alright, I'll cright now.”

Once the call ended, Richard looked at Owen, grinning. “Mr. Calhoun, are you satisfied now?

Owen, lounging in a hospital gown, long and lean, holding a thermos cup in his hands, nodded nonchalantly.

“Yeah, it’s fine.

Richard said, “Then you better go lie back down. If Miss Dalton figures it out, things could get awkward.”

Owen gave a haughty nod, holding his thermos and swaggering back to his room.

Richard wiped a nonexistent bead of sweat from his forehead and closed the door behind him.

He thought, “Why on earth am | dealing with my boss's love life?"

After Owen was discharged, Hailey was back at the hospital within half an hour.

Richard was waiting by the door. The moment Hailey arrived, he quickly stood up, his face full of relief. “Miss

Dalton, you're finally here.”

“Has he not eaten anything today?” Hailey asked, already concerned.

Richard nodded, lying smoothly. “Yes, I'm not sure if it’s because of his mood or something with his stomach, but

the food you brought him-he hasn't touched a bite.”

Hailey furrowed her brows. “I'll go see him.”

“Okay,” Richard said.

She pushed the door open and entered.

Owen's back was turned to her, eyes closed, seemingly asleep.

Hailey quietly approached and gently placed her hand on his forehead.

His temperature was normal-no fever.

Just as she was pondering, Owen suddenly opened his eyes, grabbing her hand and pulling her into his embrace

before Hailey could react.

“Hey!” Hailey glared at him, “Are you trying to fool me?”

Owen rolled over, pinning her beneath him, his handsface softening into a gentle, alluring smile. “If | didn’t

do this, were you really planning to wait until | was discharged to visit me?”

“I'm not that heartless! I've been coming every day, just not entering the room.”

Owen pinched her nose playfully. “You little heartless thing.”

“I've been making you food every day, and I'm still heartless?” Hailey rolled her eyes.

Owen propped himself up with one hand, his gaze filled with affection. He looked at her with a softness that

made her feel at

peace.

He loved seeing her-her anger, her jealousy, her liveliness.

“What's with that look?” Hailey blushed and raised a hand, pinching his side.

Owen grinned wider, pulling her slender waist toward him. “You've lost weight.”

“It’s all to take care of you,” Hailey huffed.

“My fault.” Owen lowered his head and kissed her forehead. “When I'm out, I'll cook for you every day and take

care of you at home.”

“How could | expect that from a big company CEO like you?”

Owen chuckled. “Well, does the company treat you

well?”

Hailey gave him a lazy glance. “I'd much rather you earn money and support me. Why would | work hard

myself?”

“You little brat.” Owen smirked and bit her lip.

A week later, Owen was officially discharged.

Now, Owen refused to leave Hailey’s house, making himself at home.

Richard was more than a little frustrated.

With so much tgone by, the company’s paperwork was piling up. A CEO who refused to leave the comforts of

his woman's arms?

The company had thousands of employees waiting for their paychecks!

“I'm not leaving unless Hailey goes with me.” Owen said, wearing the fall pajamas Hailey had recently bought

him, lounging on the couch, playing video games.
