574 Zi Xingxi’s first crush

The performance was unexpectedly entertaining and they didn’t do just one song but two. None of them were into current trends or music artists more especially boy groups that were liked by teenage girls.

But even they had to admit that the tunes were catchy. They were indeed catchy but Zi Han was more interested in identifying who was who in those mascot suits.

He was following each mascot when they stepped up to dance and make hand gestures while pretending to be singing their part.

Did he need to win? No, he didn’t really need the money but his competitive nature had sprung up again and he wasn’t the only one who wanted to win. His mother was also determined to win. It was relatively easy for her to identify her husband who had awkward stiff movements when dancing.

It was the others she couldn’t really identify. “You might as well give up because I am going to win,” said Zi Han when he saw his mother squinting her eyes while scrutinising everybody.

“Are you saying that because you are afraid that I am going to beat you? You must be very worried,” she said wiggling her finger at him with a look of pure amusement.

“Psychological warfare, I taught you that buddy. You can’t outsmart me,” she said and Zi Han chuckled before raising his glass of wine at her.

“Good luck,” he said as he input his answers in the app.

Lin Ruoxi on the other hand was like a parent at a recital cheering for Ming Ming like she was performing at the super bowl.

.....

“That’s my baby woohoo shake it, baby,” she said and grandpa Lin couldn’t help but facepalm while shaking his head.

Well, That is until he saw his wife standing up and copying her grandaughter’s moves with so much energy and vigour that he never thought she had.

Two songs were really their limit. It was so hot in those mascot suits that they almost fainted. One of the fishu fell to its knees as the song came to an end and collapsed on the floor.

Their faces showed a look of worry while asking, “Are you okay?” The fishu raised its fin trying to make a thumbs-up gesture.

“I already know who that one is,” said auntie Lin having figured it out the moment the mascot collapsed. That could only be her son. He was the only one who had so many health problems among them. Whether it be asthma or allergies he had it all. Sometimes he would just breathe wrong and he would get a rash on his face.

“Has everyone finished filling in so we can close the bets? That fishu looks like it can’t hold on anymore,” said Zi Feiji and Grandpa Lin could only sympathise with whoever was in the fishu mascot suit.

“Wait wait wait... and done. You can close it now,” said Yi Feng after changing his answer at the last minute.

“Okay, collapsed fishu reveal yourself,” said Zi Han and Zi Xingxi glanced at her son with an ‘are you serious’ look on her face.

“You sound like a stupid game show host,” she said and Zi Han retorted,

“Game show hosts aren’t stupid. They are funny and interesting.”

“Yes they aren’t stupid but you sound silly,” she said and the two bickered like they always did.

Zi Feiji had to intervene. “Hey hey look. Both of you were right. Look the fishu was poor Leo. He is even sweating so much.”

“You are going down Ma’am,” said Zi Han marking himself correct in the app like he was marking the circles on a bingo card.

“At least you are still well-mannered when trash-talking your mother,” she said with a haughty smile.

Zi Han chuckled before saying, “Fishu two reveal yourself,” his voice loud for dramatic effect making Ming Ming giggle.

“Oh god, will you please stop,” said Zi Xingxi and Zi Han shook his head immediately while answering,

“No. I like it. Look grandpa doesn’t mind and Ming Ming is laughing... And what’s your beef with game show hosts anyway.”

That is to say, this conversation had taken place before but his mother never explained why she disliked game shows, particularly game show hosts.

Zi Feiji who was tired of this back and forth said, “That’s because her first celebrity crush was the game show host for that stupid fake hunting game show. She couldn’t stop yammering about him back then.”

Zi Han, “...”

“Oh, that guy. I remember he had a scandal back then. His credentials were fake and he was using a fake face too,” said auntie Lin while the others stifled their laughter. They wanted to burst out laughing but they were afraid of Zi Xingxi’s dark face.

“Who?” said Yeoh Jun while trying to take off the head of the crozad but it was refusing to come off. He pulled at it in a hurry but the zipper seemed stuck.

“Wait... wait for me so you can. explain. clearly. Help me!” he said his voice muffled. He never thought his wife liked anyone other than himself so one can only imagine how he was feeling right now.

The frizel and another crozad came to help out but because their hands were covered in thick fabric the task proved much more difficult than it should have.

Doctor Kiet who ended up being the other crozad came over to help. The head was off but his hands were still wrapped in fabric thus he wasn’t much help.

Because of their big chubby bodies like that of Teletubbies, they couldn’t steady themselves thus they tumbled to the ground like dominos which was incredibly funny. It was like watching rugby players piled on top of each other but in mascot costumes which were quite hilarious.

Zi Xingxi didn’t want to laugh but it was so funny that she couldn’t help but pull up her blouse to laugh inside.

They had been married for so long and separated for a very long time but he still managed to make her laugh.

“Dad, if he divorces me because of this, I will move in with you permanently,” she said in between her laughter and Zi Feiji said,

“What do you mean by moving in permanently when you never left? Your things have always been in my house and I know you will come back.”
