157 In the body of a Moonsinger...
| grabbed her arm, spinning her around and pinning her gently against the wall of the corridor.
Her breath hitched as she looked up at me, running her tongue on her lips. Lax cajoled me, beggingto have
a taste, and | wanted to so badly, but | shook my head and leaned in, instead, my face close to her neck.
“What are you...” she began, but the words died as | inhaled deeply, brushing my nose against her skin.
| felt her body tremble even though she tried to appear unaffected, pushingto move away.
| pulled back as | searched her face. “It was you this morning, wasn't it?”
She stared at me, confused. this morning? What are you talking about?”
| chuckled, my grip tightening slightly on her arm. “Don’t play games with me, Lyla,” | murmured. “That wolf -
the one that tore through the Ferals like they were nothing. It was you, right? Lax recognizes you.”
She glared atbefore scoffing. “You're imagining things. Besides, who is Lax?”
“My Lycan,” | replied, still watching her. “He remembers your scent from when you cup to my leg. “And |
know what | saw in your eyes just now. You're not as good at hiding as you think.”
She continued staring atstrangely. “I've been sick; | practically cback to life today...”
“And the way you glow... the sway anyone would when they just get their wolf. You can’t deceive me,
Lyla...” C'mon, tell me. | won't...”
“I'm going to find, Nanny,” she interrupted me, her voice icy as she wrenched her arm free. “Believe what you
want, Ramsey, but stay out of my way.”

She brushed past me, walking away without looking back and, as always, leavingwith a hard-on.
“Maybe | was wrong,” Lax’s voice filtered into my mind again. “I was so sure the scent was hers, but her eyes...
everything about her doesn’t remindof the werewolf, not to mention she’s our only mate. Is it possible to
have another mate?”
“I hope not!” | sighed, adjusting my trousers. “Now we have a lot of things to do today.

“I hope not!” | sighed, adjusting my trousers. “Now we have a lot of things to do today. Can I trust you to
concentrate and not push images of Lyla’s lips to my head when | try
to work?”
No response.
It was unlike Lax, but he was bothered. | knew it was about the Two-tailed wolf we'd met this morning and his
mate, Lyla. He still felt drawn to both of them so | could understand his confusion.
Siggleft the packhouse and arrived at my office a while later. Lenny was hunched over my desk, staring at my
computer screen. He spareda glance as soon as | entered.
“You have to see this, Ramsey, he beckoned me.
“What?” | asked, hurrying to his side.
He pointed at the computer screen. It was footage, a copy of all the CCTV cameras we placed in strategic places
and at guard posts all over the region, but all of them were empty, except the one at which the two-tailed wolf
had attacked all the Ferals.
“I asked the security department to sendall the footage from a week, and | discovered that these Ferals were
deliberately avoiding the places where we had guards. This place,” he tapped on the computer screen, “Is the
only place that had no guard stationed there because we didn’t think anyone could cthrough that way, but
do you know what | discovered?”
“What?”
He reached for the map spread out on my desk and pointed at a point marked with a red pen. “The Northern
Forest is only twenty miles to this entrance, and if my hunch is right, the Ferals are living there, and it’s five
miles from there to this entrance.”
“Oh! That would explain things.
“Whoever that two-tailed wolf is must have known this because if you checked the cam from five days ago when
she first met them, she showed up at the exact tthe Ferals were trying to infiltrate the pack and did the
sthing for another day and finally today. She's really godsent.” Lenny laughed cheerfully.
“Tellabout it,” | nodded. “What's the situation report so far?”
“There's been no sighting of Ferals yet. I've checked in with other packs, both werewolves and Lycans, and it's
the sthing everywhere. Maybe they've gone to regroup, which would buy us enough tto put ourselves
together and find that

| nodded, my mind flitting back to Lyla. | wanted to share my observations with Lenny, but | decided to keep
them to myself.
“Anyways,” he straightened, turning to me. “You said you were only going to see the High Priestess for a few
minutes; what took you so long?”

“Lyla has woken up, | replied, dropping onto the sofa in my office. “Lenny, does Lyla strike you as odd, like
someone who would hide a secret and...”
“Yes!” he nodded, coming to sit next to me. “Not just that, | think she’s someone who is teetering on the edge of
something, like spick-a-side kind of thing, and I've always known there is something special about her. |
saw it from the first day | saw her in Nathan's arms.”
I nodded. “I think so too. If you see her, you'll not believe she’s the sperson that looked like she was going
to die a few days ago. She claims it’s due to her moonsinging abilities, but | feel uneasy about this. | don’t know
if I'm going crazy, but | think she’s the two-tailed wolf”
Lenny stared atfor a few seconds before he looked away.
“You may be right,” he nodded. A few days ago, | saw her in the forest. The guards had seen her during a
morning patrol and called my attention when | arrived. When | saw it was her. If Lyla is the two-tailed wolf and
also a Moonsinger, then...”
He paused and turned to faceagain.
“No one should ever know.”
“Why?” | asked, staring at him. “It's a good thing, right? See how she helped us with the Ferals
Lenny sighed, running a hand through his hair. “A two-tailed wolf is not a good thing. The Moon Goddess does
not create them. In other words, they're a disaster waiting to happen and with what | know about Moonsingers
and Two-tailed wolves...If Lyla’s powers ever awaken...”
He shook his head.
“Then we might not need to worry about the Dark One anymore because... a two-tailed werewolf in the body of
a Moonsinger can cause more damage than an army of Feral.”
