“He should never be too busy to teach his Luna her duties. This pack is as much yours as it is his. The sooner you
realise that the better”.
| didn’t know what to say back but | was glad when the padoors opened and the man in questioned made an
appearance.
“I didn’t realise you both were out here”. He frowned.
“I need to have a conversation with you but later”. Evelyn got to her feet. “Leah sweetheart, it was a pleasure as
always”. She dropped a kiss on Jakes cheek before making her way back inside.
“What was that all about?”. He asked.

“We do?”.
“So, you know my dad's going htonight and | start college in a few weeks?”. | chewed the inside of my
cheek. He knew | planned to go visit but | wasn’t sure what his reaction was going to be toleaving tonight.

“Yeah”. He nodded.
“I'm going to spend the next few weeks with him and I'm leaving tonight”.
“What?”. He made a face. “You're leaving?”.
“Just for a few weeks”.
“No”. He shook his head. “You can’t leave now. | know you planned to visit babe, but | didn’t expect it to be in
the next few hours”.
“I need to do this”. | didn’t want an argument over this but quite frankly he couldn't tellwhat to do.going
wasn't his decision to make. He knew how much | wanted to meet my family.
“You really want to do this tonight?”.
I nodded.
“Then | can’t stop you”.
That was it? That's all he was going to say? | couldn't read him, and | hated it. | was racking my brain trying to
think of what to say next.
“Would you want to stop me?”. | asked.
“I don’t like being away from you. | like you here where | know you're safe”.
“I'll be safe Jake”.
“I get why you want to do this but why now, why so soon?”.
“Because | need to figure out who | am and where | cfrom. I'm sick of feeling like | don’t belong. I'm sick of
feeling invisible around the pack. | want to embrace the fact that I'm a wolf and right now | can’t”. | let out a
deep breath. “I can’t do that here and I have no idea why”.
“You belong here”. He frowned. “This is your pack too. We can help you”.
“Yeah, | know that, but it still doesn’t stopfeeling the way | do. You tried to help and look how that turned
out”.
“Fine, if you want to go with your dad then go. I'll see you in a few weeks".
“Jake don’t-..."”. A sigh fell from my lips as the door slammed shut. “Do this”.
