Chapter 136 I Don't Want to See Him "You've been waiting all this time?" Eric's gesture leftstunned. It took a moment before I found my voice again.
He nodded and stepped closer with that sgentle smile. "Don't feel guilty. I took a nap in the car." As he spoke, his gaze swept over my exhausted face, a flicker of concern passing through his eyes. "But if you don't take a break and eat something soon, you're going to collapse." Then, like performing a magic trick, he pulled out a thermal food container from behind his back and set it down in front of me. "It's from that chowder shop you like. I packed it in a thermal jar, so it should still be warm." I took the container and unscrewed the lid. Sure enough, steam curled up from the chowder, carrying a familiar, comforting aroma.
I glanced at Eric after setting it down. "Wait here for a bit." Then, I stepped out of the office.
Follow on NovᴇlEnglish.nᴇtAs expected, a few team members were still at their desks, working tirelessly. I pulled out my phone and transferred a small sum to each of them as a bonus.
They looked up in shock, their eyes wide with disbelief.
Smiling, I said, "Stop working and go home. There's no way you'll finish everything in one night. Your health matters more. Go rest." One by one, they finally packed up and left.
I only returned to the office when the last of them was gone. I shot an apologetic look at Eric. "If it weren't for you, I wouldn't have even realized they were still here." His expression softened, his voice barely above a murmur in the quiet room. "If it weren't for me, you wouldn't have realized you needed to eat." With that, he gently presseddown into a chair, then ladled out two bowls of chowder and handed one to me. The warmth spread through my hands, then down my throat, filling the emptiness in my stomach and something deeper too.
"The owner wasn't there today, so it's not the seafood chowder you had last time. This one's lighter. I'm not sure if you'll like it." I grinned and nodded firmly. "I like it." Honestly, even if this were just plain chowder, it would still taste amazing right now.
As we chatted idly, we finished our bowls. Warmth continued to spread through my tired limbs. I wanted to get back to work just a little longer, but Eric was having none of it.
"If you drop dead at your desk right now, you'll spend the rest of your life as Jeremiah's wife." That one sentence crushed my determination like a sledgehammer. And yet, fate has a cruel sense of humor. Because the more you despise someone, the more often they seem to appear.
The moment karrived at the stuthe next morning, the first thing I saw was that nauseatingly familiar face. Jeremiah was standing at the entrance, looking as polished as ever in a sharp suit. The second his gaze landed on me, a smug smile spread. "Jae." I took a step back, my expression instantly darkening. "What do you want?" His smile sent a wave of irritation crawling up my spine. I refused to look at him directly and said coldly, "If you have nothing important to say, then leave." Jeremiah remained unfazed. "I know you're in trouble. With all these compensation payouts, your

But if you promise to behave from now on, I'll take care of everything for you." I raised an eyebrow. "And how exactly do you plan to do that?" To my complete lack of surprise, he played coy.
"No need for you to worry about the details. Just know that withby e your side, you'll cout unscathed." I stared him down, slowly taking in his demeanor. Something was different today.
That arrogant confidence... It was as if he already knew the outcome.
And then, like puzzle pieces falling into place, a chilling thought clicked in my mind. Could it be...
My eyes burned with fury as I turned to him. Without another word, pulled out my phone and dialed security.
"There's someone causing trouble at the entrance. Please escort him out."
