Liam could only stand up numbly and drive to the hospital. He almost got into a car accident on the way there

because he was in such a daze.

Selene beceven more confused and wondered why Liam was in such a terrible state. She wanted to call

Grace and ask about it, but the call couldn't connect.

When Grace woke up, she saw a familiar ceiling above her, and she realized she had actually made it home.

While rubbing her eyes, she slowly sat up and called out, "Ed?"

But there was no response. She got up and went outside, but there was only warm food in the kitchen and no

one else.

There was a note on the refrigerator at the side. "Something urgent cup. Remember to eat something after

you wake up."

She didn't have much of an appetite. It was already 3:00 pm, and she had other things to do.

When she was kidnapped last night, Grace heard one of them call the leader Lucian. Coincidentally, back when

she was hunted all the way to Ed's villa, someone had mentioned a ncalled Lucian and even slipped her an

address. She had planned to look into it later when she had the time, but she didn't expect the snto

also be involved in what happened last night.

She pulled out her phone and called Lyle. Lyle had mentioned he was good at fighting, so she thought it was

safer for him to calong when she went to the provided address.

At the stime, Lyle was being watched in a room. When he heard his phone- now under someone else's

control-ring, his eyes lit up.

"Let go of me. She's calling me," Lyle demanded.

The people around him had a businesslike attitude. One of them picked up the phone to look at the caller and

exchanged a few words with the person beside him before giving the phone back to Lyle.

Lyle took a deep breath and let out a cold snort. But when he pressed on the answer button, his tone became

lighter.

"Grace, what's up?" he asked.

"I need you to cwithsomewhere," Grace replied.

Lyle's eyes lit up even brighter. He was just glad to finally be getting out of here.

"Sure! I'll go to your apartment right now," he happily replied.

Grace was a bit surprised at his enthusiasm, but she didn't feel any malice from him, so she was patient with

him.

"Okay, I'll wait for you," she simply said.

When he hung up the phone, Lyle tilted his chin up. "I have something to do now. She needs my help. Tell your

master about this."

He had deliberately used the word "master", implying he saw the people who were watching him as nothing

more than someone else's dogs.

But these people wouldn't get angry no matter what he had said to them these past few days. It was as if they

were just machines. It had taken the fun out of mocking them.

One of them stepped out to call someone. When he cback, he silently stepped aside and made way.

Lyle felt triumphant and immediately hailed a cab to Grace's apartment. It took him less than half an hour.

Grace was a bit surprised he got here so quickly, and she couldn't help but ask, "Didn't Yasmine assign any work

for you two?"

Lyle and his brother, Zack, were Yasmine's cash cows, after all.

Lyle showed a small smile. "There was swork, but I'm free for the day."

As Grace sat in the driver's seat, she didn't ask too much about it and simply drove to the slums.

Lyle's injuries had just barely healed. He was almost beaten to death after he said sharsh things during his

argument with that man, but he knew that the man didn't dare to take his life. As long as he was still alive, he

would make sure to get back at that man. s

Grace stopped the car in the slums.

This place was completely different from the city, but she really needed to find Lucian and get to the bottom of

this. Her life would constantly be in huge danger if the person who had planned everything kept hiding in the

dark. s

She didn't rush to go to Lucian's house but parked the car not far from it and kept watch instead. After waiting

for half an hour, someone finally walked out of the house-it was Lucian.

Lucian didn't know that he was being watched. He had originally planned to bring something to Joanne as usual

since Joanne's house was not far away from his. But the moment he stepped out of his house, Joanne called him.

"Lucian, I'm afraid I'll be exposed because of what happened last night. So, it's best we don't meet up for the

tbeing. Delete everything on your phone.

"If someone asks you about it, you can just say the person who gave you the orders was hiding in the dark the

whole time. You never saw their face and just did as you were paid for. Do you understand?" Joanne instructed.

Lucian knew that he just needed to follow Joanne's orders as she had her own arrangements. He was skilled in

combat but not so much in thinking, so anything that required thinking was left to Joanne.

"Okay, | got it," he replied.

Lucian went back to his room. Whenever he sent something to Joanne, he would place it somewhere very far

away from Joanne's house.

He had been living in the slums for a long time. Everyone who knew him only knew that he liked someone but

didn't know where that person was. Seven thought it was just an excuse to keep up a clean image.

Just as Lucian went into his room, one of his underlings cknocking on his door.

"Lucian, a nice car cto the slums today and was parked about 600 feet from your house. Did you get into

strouble?" the underling reported.

What Grace didn't know was a place like the slums had a massive web of information: Even though the

surveillance equipment here might be outdated, Lucian. had eyes

planted

there. Lucian would"

be the first one to know whenever a new face or a strange cap showed up in the slums. s

"What's the license plate number?" Lucian asked.

He twisted open a bottle of water and took a big sip, a hint of ruthlessness flashing across his eyes.

His underling quickly reported the license plate number. Lucian furrowed his brows and immediately gave Joanne

another call.

"Joanne, Grace's car is near my house," Lucian said.

Joanne was in the middle of her skincare routine when she answered the call.

She paused when she heard his words. Grace had really gone to investigate the kidnapping.

Joanne might look down on others but not Grace. Even if Grace was foolish before, she was still the most rational

person when it cto a lot of things.

The corner of Joanne's lips curled up. "That's great. Let Grace think Jodie is the one behind it all."

This would surely intensify the conflict between Grace and Ethan.

Lucian nodded obediently. "Okay."
