Hearing that Alpha Henry had shown up too, | couldn’t help but laugh. What was today, exactly? Was everyone
just dropping in uninvited?
“What are you doing here?” | asked with a touch of irritation.
He looked around with his usual cold expression and said, “Heard you moved out. | cto see where you're
living.”

That judgmental tone, like he was touring a slum, maderoll my eyes. We weren't living together-why did he

He frowned, and for a second, | saw a crack in that always-composed face.
“You're my fiancée. Of course we're close. Or... are you implying something?”
| looked up, deadpan. Was it me, or had the world gone mad? Alpha Henry was acting stranger by the day.
“Did you forget | called off the engagement?” | reminded him sharply.
He stepped closer, a smile flickering at the corners of his lips. “Cut it out, Aubrey. | heard everything just
now.”
He coughed into his hand to hide a laugh, then added smugly, “Unwavering love‘? | had no idea you were this
devoted.”
| stared at him. Seriously?
So he actually believed what I'd said to shut Mateo up?
“I need to make something clear,” | said firmly. “Our engagement is over. | only want to be adopted into the

I narrowed my eyes at her, letting a sly grin tug at my lips. “So you're still mad about the broken engagement?
There’s no need. It was never made public-nothing’s set in stone. We could always... revisit the idea.”
And besides, wasn’t becoming part of the Miguel family her way of getting closer to me?
But her face darkened, and she said each word slowly and clearly, like she wanted to carve them into stone. “I
don’t love you anymore.”
| stepped in, cornering her against the wall. “Don’t love me? You said you did for eleven years. All of that just...
disappeared?”
| leaned in, eyes locked on hers.
“If you don’t love me, why do you keep kissing me?”

One hand braced against the wall, trapping her in. My voice dropped to a low growl.
“If you don’t love me, then why tell Mateo that nonsense? What's so hard about admitting how you feel? | want

I'd thought about it long and hard. It was tto stop lying to myself.
Aubrey was my first. | couldn't resist her. In simple terms. | desired her. That's what it was.
