Chapter 57 Checkmate
Aubrey’s POV

| pressed the silver needle forward-just one millimeter deeper into Mateo’s temple. His expression twisted in
pain.
“How does that feel, Alpha Mateo?”
His brows pinched tight, and those narrow, sharp eyes glared coldly at me.
“You've got more tricks than | expected.”
| smiled lightly. “Who doesn’t have a few cards up their sleeve?” Silver needles were my defense weapons. If he
hadn't tried to get violent, | wouldn't have needed to use them.
Keeping the needle steady with one hand, | reached up with the other and pinched his cheek, deliberately cruel.
“You said | don’t understand you. And you're right-because | don’t need to.”
| grinned, slow and wicked. “If you behave, then do as | say. If you don’t, I'll make you obey. So tell me, why
should I care who you are?”
My fingers dug in harder, kneading his face like dough.
Mateo’s fury boiled over. “You little-! Let go!”

| pretended not to hear and squeezed even harder. In my last life, | could only look up at this man. Now that |
have a chance, why shouldn't | grind him under my heel?
| clicked my tongue. “You've got great skin, Alpha Mateo. Still nice and soft.”
He tried to fight back but couldn’t break free. His glare turned more vicious by the second.
“Aubrey, do you ever think about consequences? Don’t you know | could wipe out your entire family?”
| let out a calm laugh, gave his cheek a final pat, and looked down at him.
“Death is the worst you can offer. Been there, done that.”
I'd already died once. Nothing scaredanymore.
Then | stood. “Alright. Game's over.”
| pulled the silver needle out and slipped it back into my clothes. Looking him dead in the eye, | warned, “If you
ever try to lay a hand onagain, I'll cripple yours. One finger per offense. | mean it.”
Mateo’s POV
F¥ck.
An omega just threatened me.
| should've been furious-should’ve shifted into my wolf form and torn her apart with my claws.
But... looking into those wicked eyes, hearing that cold, violent promise-

Chapter 57 Checkmate
Why the hell was | excited?
Even Odera let out a stunned growl in my head. What the hell-this woman is hot!
What was wrong with me? Was | actually looking forward to her sticking a needle in me?
| shook off the bizarre thoughts and turned my gaze aside awkwardly.
| could've shifted and ended this in a heartbeat. She was still physically weaker than me.
And yet... | couldnt bring myself to do it.
I didn’t want her dead.

| glanced at Aubrey again. She’d gone back to drying her hair, completely unbothered-like | hadn't just tried to
kill her. What was she relying on? Did she really think her charm could tan alpha like me?
After a long internal struggle, | finally caved.
If I couldn't kill her, I'd have to work with her.
Gritting my teeth, | asked, “Just tellthe truth-are you really confident you can treat my brother? If so, Ill
make sure you're well compensated.”
Aubrey raised an eyebrow. “I know what's wrong with him. I'll cto you when the tis right.”
“When's that supposed to be?”
“When I'm in the mood.”
That sent another wave of fury through me. | laughed bitterly. “Ms. Aubrey, | wonder if your mouth is this sharp
in bed too.”
“You'll never find out.”
“Why not try and see?” | stood, smirking. “Maybe once you've had me, you'll fall in love.”
Aubrey laughed, cool and unbothered. “Shame. My heart belongs to Alpha Henry. See yourself out.”
That smile-it stung. Mocking and dismissive all at once.
Fine. She liked someone else. Not my problem.
| sneered and turned to leave. But the moment | opened the door-
| found myself face to face with Alpha Henry, wearing an equally unreadable expression.
And in that instant, something sour twisted in my chest.
Why-of all people-did it have to be Alpha Henry that Aubrey loved?
