Chapter 284
Grady was struggling to completely trust Irene; his mind was restless and uncertain.
"Grady, why don't you trustanymore?" Irene asked, her voice tinged with disappointment.
Grady was mulling over Yonas's remarks. He probed again, "Honestly, is all this because you want to marry
Yonas? Are your grandfathers discussing the engagement already?"
A chill flickered in Irene's eyes. Denying it now would be pointless once the engagement was official, and her
patience had worn thin. "Yes, | already told you. Yasmine was right; Yonas is the one | like. So, what's next on
your agenda? Going to the police to getlocked up?"
Irene burst into laughter. "Grady, you're really acting like a kid. Do you think the police would just believe you
because of what you said? Where's your evidence?"
Grady's face turned pale as Irene kept going, "Don't be silly. You don't have a shred of evidence, while I do. |
have the surveillance of your meeting with Yvette. Whatever you two cooked up has nothing to do with me."
Grady's expression darkened. He knew Irene was right. They had only used their phones to discuss their plan,
and even when they met, recording was never on his mind. He never thought Irene would use this against him.
At that moment, Grady suddenly realized Irene seemed like a stranger. She was no longer the cheerful girl he
knew in high school. Now, her smile was unsettling. "Irene, you don't..."
"Don't what? Grady, you didn't think | had a thing for you, did you?" Irene purposely lowered her voice just for

Grady let out a loud laugh, "I was such an idiot, thinking you actually likedand wanted to be with me. If
you're so sure of yourself, why didn't you cut to the chase earlier?"
Irene spoke in a cold tone, "At first, | didn't know how much Yasmine told you. But now | get it-you've already told
her everything. There's no point in keeping up appearances with someone you can't benefit from. You're a
businessman; you know how this works, right?" Grady gave a bitter chuckle, "I understand."
On the weekend, when Yasmine walked into the old mansion, she realized the gathering Ivette had mentioned
wasn't at the Sanchez residence but at the Mayfield family's. The moment she stepped in, she was greeted by a
sea of unfamiliar faces.
Ivette hurried over, smiling warmly. "Yasmine, finally! We've been waiting ages for you."
Yasmine wondered to herself, why is she waiting for me? "Aunt Ivette," she greeted as she walked into the old
mansion.
"Yasmine, chere! | want you to meet speople," Ivette said, pulling her into the parlor. "Everyone, meet
Yasmune. Isn't she stunning?" Ivette smiled as she gestured to a striking girl in the crowd. "This is my niece,
Donna White. | think you two will hit it off." Before Yasmine could reply, Donna sneered, "Aunt Ivette, you've got
it wrong. I'm still in college, while she's already married
and divorced. We live in different worlds."
"What nonsense are you spouting? Someone next to Donna gave her a light smack on the head. "Don't be upset.
Yasmine. She's been pampered all her life. By family ties, you should callaunt.
Yasmine nodded, even though talking to this person wasn't anything she was eager to do they had no real
connection Bur she did it for Aunt Ivette. After her parents passed away, Uncle Jared and Aunt Ivette were
incredibly kind. Ivette nudged her

towards the group, and though Yasmine felt a bit awkward, she kept a neutral expression.
Donna walked ahead, followed by the rest of her cousins. It was clear she was highly regarded in the Mayfield
family; everyone treated her like the star of the show.

"Yasmine, right? I've heard your nbefore. There's a rumor going around that after your divorce, you started
dating Yonas. But now, I've heard that you two have broken up. Don't take it too personally. After all, it's Irene,
and, understandably, Mr. Russell would choose her over you. Let's be honest, a divorced woman is often seen
as... well, less respectable." Donna chuckled, covering her mouth as her companions joined in, mocking Yasmine.
Yasmine sat there calmly, sipping her coffee, not bothering with the people around her. "Why did | even come
here?" she thought, feeling regretful. Supposedly, she was here to help, yet hadn't contributed anything and was
unjustly criticized instead. As laughter filled the room, her forehead wrinkled slightly. "Donna," she warned, "this
is the Sanchez residence, mind your words."
"How dare you talk tolike that? Do you really think you're still the princess of the Sanchez family? Your
parents passed away long ago, and now it's Aunt Ivette's family home. It has nothing to do with you. Be thankful

her eyes bloodshot with anger, couldn't believe she mentioned her parents. "You actually hit me?" Donna looked
at her in shock. Meanwhile, her companions had already gone to get help. Donna's eyes filled with tears. "How
dare you hit me? I'm telling Auntie; I'm telling Christine!"
Before long, Claire helped Christine storm in with an air of authority. "I want to see who's brave enough to treat
my granddaughter like this!"
Just as she finished speaking, a cane appeared in Yasmine's line of sight. This must be the Christine that Donna
mentioned. Yasmine thought, just as an angry voice rang out.
"Such rudeness, not even a greeting when | arrive," Christine remarked coolly, giving Ivette a frosty glance. "Is
this the Yasmine you've been taking care of? Why is she so lacking in manners?"
Yasmine looked over calmly, "Christine, is there something you need?"
Christine angrily tapped her cane on the floor several times and scolded Yasmine, "How dare you even ask me
what's wrong"
Claire cradled Donna protectively. "We've never even laid a finger on Donna as she grew up, and you dare to hit
her? You've only known her for a short tand yet act so high and mighty
Christine, filled with sorrow, exclaimed, "Ivette, just look at your niece! She's so ill-mannered; she really needs to
be taught a lesson!"
Ivette, being reasonable, gazed softly at Yasmine. "Yasmine," she asked, "can you tellwhat just happened?"
Yasmine frowned, stating, "If I'm seen as rude, then Donna is worse. She spoke about my parents right in front of
me, all | did was teach her a lesson."
Christine gave Yasmine a sidelong glare. "She's immature, and I'll have a word with her later. But you absolutely
shouldn't have hit her. Do you even respect the Mayfield family? You did this in front of everyone!"
