“Don’t be like this,” | said, my voice shaking.
Nathan must've realized he'd freakedout. After a moment of silence, he spoke quietly. “Sorry. | shouldn't
have gotten so emotional. Maybe you never compared us at all. Maybe you just simply like him more.”
“Nathan, that’s not how love works. It’s not about who gives more or who tries harder,” | said, honestly, even |
didn’t really get it.

Nathan muttered, sounding bitter at the world.
“Whether my thread and his are really tangled up... who knows,” | replied, my tone bitter.

“It’s not that. | just don’t have much faith in myself,” | replied softly.
Nathan suddenly snapped, cursing. “Did that bastard Jared mess you up so bad you can’t trust love anymore?”

“He’s got it coming even more than | do,” Nathan grumbled, then added, “It’s late. I'll stop bothering you now.

| wanted to say something to show I cared, but in the end, | just ended the call in silence.
The next morning, | ran into Quinn at the office.
Last time, Jared had mentioned that Quinn was chasing after Nathan, and | was still a little surprised by that.
Quinn walked in without her usual pride. When she looked at me, she seemed a bit unsure of herself.
“What should | call you now?” Quinn asked, sizingup.

across from me. “Did my brother mention that I'm chasing after Nathan now?”
I nodded. “He mentioned it.”
“Nathan likes you, right?” Quinn asked, givingthat ‘I already know" look.
I replied calmly, “That's a separate issue.”
“Can you tellhow you got him to fall for you?” Quinn asked, her voice tinged with urgency.

“Nope, | know exactly what I’m doing. You and Nathan are over-my brother chdrunk last night and told
this is my chance to make my move.”
| glanced at Quinn. She was still driven by self-interest, just like in my previous life, but at least now she knew

“Sorry, | can’t help you. Whatever happened betweenand him was last year,” | replied calmly, turning her
down.
“So, you think I'm not good enough for him?” Quinn suddenly looked annoyed. “You're divorced and I'm still
single-so why is it okay for you to date him, but not me? What do | have that you don’t?”
I leaned back in my chair, giving Quinn an amused look. She was still as blindly confident as ever.
“Do you really want to know?” | asked.
Quinn nodded. “Why do you think I'm here?”
| started with the 250 thousand | gave him, then told her about how | saved his company. Quinn just stared at
me, totally stunned.
“He likes you because he feels like he owes you?” Quinn said, her voice full of disbelief. “So if | help him out, he'll
owe me, and maybe he'll fall fortoo?”
“If that’s what you think, then go ahead and help him,” | replied, not really in the mood to explain further.
“You said you gave him 250 thousand, but that money was from the Holcomb family, right? So technically, I've
got a share in that favor too,” Quinn said, her eyes gleaming with mischief. “That's my in! | can use that as my
excuse to go see him. I'm going to get a job at his company-as his personal assistant.”
| stared at Quinn in surprise. So she'd already mapped out her whole plan.
“You're about to marry someone else, so you'd better stop trying to get close to him. Seriously, have some
boundaries,” Quinn tossed over her shoulder before strutting out.
