As soon as | arrived at the parking lot, my phone buzzed with a call from Edward.
I'd asked my assistant to drive, and as | sat in the back seat, my head felt a little fuzzy.
Edward’s voice drifted in, like a gentle breeze in my ear. “Are you drunk?”
“How did you know I'd been drinking?” | asked, curious.

“Didn’t you go to Nathan's company for the victory party?” Edward replied, a hint of amusement in his tone.
“Oh, you know about that too?” | said, almost forgetting that Edward had also put money into the company.
though he did it under his company’s name.
“I'll be in Hachester the day after tomorrow,” Edward said, his voice softening.
“Why are you coming here?” | blurted out, instantly realizing how pointless that question was.
Edward looked a little stunned too, then let out a helpless sigh. “What do you think?”
“Oh, right, we're dating,” | said, only just now realizing it myself.

Edward sighed. “Have you forgotten how dating works? You can’t really keep the spark alive when you're miles
apart.”
“But don’t you have work? Will coming to Hachester affect your job?” | was thinking from his perspective,
worried for him.
“No, | can work from anywhere,” Edward replied softly.
“Alright, then cvisit. I'll take you to Willow Bay and show you the sights around here,” | said.
“Okay,” Edward answered gently.
My assistant was still in the car, clearly eavesdropping, so | quickly ended the call.
She turned towith a grin. “Ms. Murphy, are you dating someone?”
“Yeah,” | said, not bothering to hide it.
“He must be really handsome, right?” she asked, clearly curious.
“He's pretty good-looking,” | said, picturing Edward's face in my mind. He's definitely got that something extra-
way better than just average.
“If he’s just ‘pretty good-looking,” then he must have a killer career, right? Otherwise, there's no way he’d catch
your eye, Ms. Murphy,” she said with a mischievous grin, clearly trying to get the juicy details.
“Alright, quit being so nosy,” | said, unable to hold back a laugh,

When | got home, | hopped in the shower and then got serious about my skincare routine. My soft, fair skin
wasn't just a gift from genetics-keeping it this way took real effort. Honestly, | wished the guy who loved me
wasn't shallow, but | had to admit, | cared about looks too. Guess that makesjust as bad.
It was the middle of the night.
| was already half-asleep when my phone suddenly started ringing.
Thinking it might be a work call, | fumbled for my phone and pressed it to my ear.
“Victoria, are you really getting married? He treats you well, doesn’t he?” Nathan's voice cthrough.
| snapped awake at the sound. It was Nathan. His voice was hoarse, probably from drinking and just waking
up.
“You were pretty drunk earlier. Are you feeling any better now?” | asked, my voice soft with concern.
Nathan's voice was tinged with sadness. “Can you tellabout you and him? I'm just... | just want to know,
that’s all.”
| was stunned-he actually wanted to heartalk about Edward. ‘Is he really asking about this?‘ | thought, a
little thrown off.
“You two haven't even known each other that long. When you met him, you were still with Ryan. Victoria, is it
that the kind of slow, steady love | offer just doesn’t appeal to you? Do you only want something thrilling,
something that gets your heart racing?” Nathan's voice was thick with frustration, like he was questioning his
whole life.
“Nathan, when it comes to feelings, | really don’t have a clear answer. I...” | started, but the words just faded
away.
“Is it that I'm just not enough? Or is it because I'm the only one who really loves you, and you just feel sorry for
me, so you givea little bit of affection out of pity?” Nathan's voice was choked with emotion-I could hear him
struggling to hold it together.
“I'm sorry,” | said quietly, not knowing what else to say.
“I don’t need your apology. | just want to know-what did I lose to him on? Is it because my career can’t compare
to his, or my status isn’t as high?”
