“Nola, what are you upset about?” Elvis was angry and couldn't help but raise his voice. The two of them were at
a standstill. Nola looked at his concern for her and all she could think about were the words he had said to her
that night, each one dripping with sarcasm.
“The Grant family asked you to go, and you went alone. You have my contact information, so why didn’t you tell
me? Do you really not want people to know about my existence? Am | that embarrassing to you? Just look at
yourself now
She had suffered grievances, cback without saying anything, and now she was having a quarrel with him.
What was this?
“I'm well aware of my own identity, how could | dare to quarrel with Mr. Grayson! | always follow your wishes and
never have any unrealistic ideas. I'm not qualified to ask you to do anything for me!”
Elvis’ expression grew even more unpleasant. “What do you mean by that?”
Nola laughed mockingly. “Do you all enjoy watching others feel embarrassed? So now you're waiting forto be
nice to you, only to slaphard and tellthat trying to please you is a ridiculous thing to do? Or do you want
to tellagain not to have any other thoughts because they're all just wishful thinking?”
That night, wasn't it here where he clearly told her to stay away from him?
Nola took a deep breath and suppressed her grievances. She knew she wasn’t entitled to them.
“Mr. Grayson, | will always remember your orders and won't dare to wander aimlessly in front of you. I'll make
sure to keep a safe distance from you, to prevent any confusion. Being simple is better.”
Nola was firm in her words. Only then did Elvis remember that he was in a bad mood that night and had drunk a
little too much. It was no wonder that the girl had remembered those words.
“You're my wife, how do you keep a safe distance from me?” Elvis wouldn't let her get away, after holding it in

“Yes, | am your legal wife, but that’s all I am. Mr. Grayson, | bet my own lifethappiness to cure my mother.
Marrying you was my choice and no matter what happens, | accept it. Just letkeep my own heart, at least.”
“Nola Grant!”
“Mr. Grayson! Enough!” Nola suddenly shouted. She had had enough of today’s events, and the taunts from the
Grant family had hurt her deeply. She had managed to keep everything inside, not uttering a single word. Could
she finally catch her breath now that she was home?
Upon returning home, could he give her sbreathing room?
“You said | don’t have any delusions about you. So can you stop being nice to me? You said | don’t get close to
you, I've done that. So what do you want from me? You tellto stay away from you, and when | do, you come
and tease me. What do you want from me?”
Elvis was in the wrong and didn’t know how to respond to her.
“I'm used to being alone, and | don’t need anyone to be nice to me. Even if it's difficult, | can get through it
myself. | can’t play your emotional games, and | don’t want to.”
Nola didn’t want to end up losing everything.
While she still had control over her heart, she decided to put a stop to it. Nobody should move forward from
here.
She had always been strong and could endure any mockery, but what she feared the most was someone's
tenderness.

She looked stubbornly at Elvis, forcing herself to hold on. “I never thought of taking anyone's place.”

Nola’s determined eyes pierced Elvis’ heart. The words he said that night had hurt her more than he thought. He
watched as she turned and went upstairs, and Elvis was powerless to stop her. He also questioned himself, what
did his concern represent?
Was it love?
Elvis couldn’t see his own heart clearly for the tbeing, nor could he confidently walk up to her.
The injured kitten was alert and waving its paws at him. Elvis thought they could talk it out, but the outcwas
not ideal. Once again, they parted without any joy, and Elvis‘ heart was overwhelmed.
Upon returning to his bedroom, he found that she had moved to the guest room on her own. He was so angry
that he punched the wall.
This girl was too stubborn. Elvis had only said a few words to her, and she had thrown a tantrum and moved to
the guest room. If she wanted to sleep in the guest room, then let her. Elvis was angry that she didn’t tell him
when she was wronged and argued with him. He had been too good to her, making her presumptuous.
After washing up and lying in bed, Elvis felt like something was missing. There was an empty space next to him,
and for the first time, he realized how big their bedroom was. He wasn't sure if it was because it was cold outside
or if the heating temperature was not high enough, but the room felt empty.
He sat up from the bed, feeling frustrated. Without realizing it, he thought about her injured hand and face.
“Did she take care of her wounds properly?” he couldn't help but think.
He walked to the door, thinking about Nola’s stubbornness, and then went back to bed, forcing himself to sleep.
That girl had to suffer slosses before she would soften up. Why did he have to be so soft-hearted?
The next day, when Elvis left for work, he didn’t see Nola get up. He wanted to express his concern, but couldn't
bring himself to say it. Before he left, he told Alisa to let him know if there was anything wrong at home. He
looked upstairs with sworry before leaving.
Nola slept deeply and her voice was hoarse when Alisa knocked on her door. She said she was just tired and
needed to sleep. At noon, she reluctantly ate sfood and didn’t pay much attention to her wound. She was
still feeling down, so she went back upstairs to sleep.
When Elvis cback, she was still upstairs.
“Nola slept all day?” Elvis asked.

“Mrs. Grayson doesn’t seem to be feeling well and her complexion isn’t great,” Alisa replied.
“I see,” Elvis said. He changed into his hclothes and was about to go upstairs to check on her when he saw
her coming down the stairs in her pajamas and bare feet. Her hair was messy and her face was red.
Elvis furrowed his brow but remained silent, observing as Nola stumbled down the stairs, grasping onto the
railing for support. As she nearly tumbled down, Elvis acted swiftly and caught her just in time. The close contact
made Nola’s heart beat faster, and she began to pant heavily.
“You...” Elvis started to say something, but suddenly noticed that something was wrong with her. Her body was
clearly hotter than usual. He touched Nola’s forehead and confirmed that she had a high fever. Without
hesitation, he picked her up and
carried her to the bedroom.
“Mr. Grayson, let go of me,” she said, her voice hoarse.
“You're sick like this, and you still want to argue with me? Just be obedient!” Elvis raised his voice slightly.
Though it was a

simple sentence, it made Nola unable to hold back her emotions.
“I can take care of myself, you don’t have to bother, she said.
“You're my wife. If | don’t take care of you, who will? If you wantto worry about you, you've succeeded, he
replied.
Nola was stunned. What did Elvis just say? Did he say that he was worried about her?
