Chapter 418 418: Help her live it all again
Jessica blinked her eyes again, trying to adjust to the light. Her gaze was unfocused at first, wandering around
the room, trying to make sense of her surroundings.
But the more she looked, the more she felt contradicting memories clashing through her brain.
Her gaze trailed over to Davis, but at one moment he felt familiar and at another unfamiliar.
She felt comfortable with him around as though it was a sight she longed to behold.
The next minute she felt repulsed because, searching through her memory, his face was unfamiliar with no
record of conversation between them.
Jessica shook her head lightly as though that could fix everything going on in her head.
Davis leaned closer, his hand trembling as he brushed her cheek. "Babe, can you hear me?" he probed, his heart
thudding in his chest at a fast pace.
As though she hadn't heard him, Jessica's gaze continually scanned the surroundings, her brows furrowed with
confusion, her lips moved, a faint murmur escaping, but no clear words came.
"Ethan," Davis called, his voice anxious. "Get the doctor immediately."
At the sound of his voice, Jessica's eyes shifted toward him again until they found his, and a faint flicker of
recognition shone briefly, but the next moment it dimmed.
Seeing that flicker of expression and how it faded, Davis felt his heart lurch with fear. Tears blurred his vision, but
he didn't care.
"Babe... you..." His voice cracked, but his words paused as the door was pushed open from outside.
Davis's gaze shifted to the door, the Dean and her attending doctor cinside. Davis carefully stepped out of
the way, letting them check on her.
After the doctors examined the essential indicators, a nurse was signaled and she brought forward a glass of
warm water.
With the machines taken off her, the doctors sighed with relief.
Carefully, Jessica was helped to sit up on the bed, the pillow placed behind her to rest her back.
Davis took the glass from her hand and cforward to help Jessica drink, but she recoiled from him.
"Where's Richard?" Her voice cout as a whisper that Davis had to incline his head to her lips to hear her.
Davis's hand paused briefly, a bitter feeling swelling up his heart. "What's your own name?" she asked, snapping
Davis out of his thoughts.
"W...hat...? D...on't..." he started.
Jessica rubbed her brow. "My recollection seems chaotic," she murmured, as though giving an explanation.
But the next word left Davis helpless. "Ask Richard to cover with the last quarter report and prepare for my
discharge," she instructed weakly.
"Babe, you can't be discharged at the moment. You still have to be observed."
Jessica looked at him. "Who exactly are you?"
Davis felt his heart shrouded with dread, fear, and uncertainty. He had his doubts that the Jessica before him
might be different.
Or probably her brain had been messed up because she had slept too long. But whatever the reason might be,
he wasn't ready to accept.
"Your husband," Davis clipped, frustration laced into his words.

Davis looked at the doctor and the Dean. "What is wrong with her? She seems..."
The Dean's hand rested gently on his shoulder, his expression heavy with sympathy. "Davis, take it easy. It
appears she's experiencing... a problem with recollection."
"Recollection? What do you mean?"
"From a professional point of view..." The Dean sighed. "...she is amnesic."
Everything around Davis stilled. He felt his breath cut short from his lungs, his head buzzed, and only one word
continually replayed: "Amnesic. Amnesic."
The Dean continued carefully. "With further tests, we'll determine the type, the severity, and a therapy plan."
"No. No, it can't be..." Davis muttered. His voice broke. "Doctor...it's not... not the memories of our life together,
right? She hasn't lost those?"
The Dean's silence was answer enough. "It's too early to say. We need tests."
Davis felt his world spinning, his hope dashed, his fist clenched by his side as the memories of his days of
waiting by her side ccrashing down on him.
His step staggered as he backed away till his back hit the solid face of the wall.
The doctor sighed. He had been privy to every ounce of the pain Davis had borne in the tof waiting for
Jessica to wake up.
Seeing her awake was a hope fulfilled but now with the loss of sparts of her memory, he felt sorry for Davis.
After a brief moment, Jessica drifted back to sleep. Davis sank into the chair beside her, his gaze on her, pain
etched across his face.
"Do you really have to lose every memory of ours?"
Was the pain so terrible that you shutout completely?
He bowed his head into his hands, whispering brokenly, What about the kids?
But his questions were only met with silence. Davis spent more twith her before he went to the Dean's
office.
"What exactly is happening?" Davis's voice was raw, his face ashen.
"Retrograde amnesia," the Dean explained. "Given the complexity of her accident...the blood loss, oxygen
deprivation, prolonged unconsciousness...it isn't unusual."
Davis's jaw tightened. "What do we do now?"
"Patience, Mr. Allen. Recovery may be gradual. Sometimes fragments return in days, sometimes weeks. She will
need tand you."
Davis spent a long tin the Dean's office. By the the stepped out, he had a strong resolve.
No matter how long it takes, he will wait for her to recall and also create new memories with her.
She was transferred into a private ward, carefully arranged by Davis himself. Elder Allen arrived quickly after
hearing the news, his face drawn with both hope and concern.
Davis called Lady Matilda to inform her, and sent for Richard, who would help with Jessica's introductions.
~Next Day~
Jessica stirred awake, she blinked her eyes trying to adjust to the bright light of the ward; this tshe felt more
refreshed and stronger compared to the first.
Her unfocused gaze wandered around the room trying to make sense of her surroundings just like before.
Yet her memories couldn't give her the reason why she was in the hospital and when she cinto the hospital.
She lifted her hand to her head. "What the hell is...." her words paused mid speech at soft murmuring of a small
crowd around the room.
Slowly she turned her head, snapped towards her side and the sight made her breath hitch.
Her brows furrowed. "Why... are there so many people here?"
Her calm gaze scanned their faces, sfaces she knew, others felt like strangers, seeing them all crowding her
ward... Jessica was stumped.
With the number of unfamiliar faces more than the familiar, Jessica had questions racing through her mind.
"Who are they?"
"How am | connected with them?"
"| feel like I'm forgetting so many things."
"How long have | been asleep and what happened before | fell asleep?"
But the more she thought, the more she felt contradicting memories clashing through her brain, the more her
head ached.
Her gaze trailed over to Davis, but at one moment he felt familiar and at another, unfamiliar.
Elder Allen stepped forward, his tone soft. "Jessica, are you feeling any pain? Does it hurt anywhere?" Elder Allen
asked, his voice trembling."

Jessica felt troubled. "Who is he?" she asked suddenly, pointing at Davis.
The room grew still. Davis's chest tightened. His lips parted, but no words cout.
Lady Matilda stepped in gently, trying to ease the tension. "Jessica, he's the one who has been by your side all
this while. You don't remember?"
Jessica shook her head slowly. "No... | don't."
Davis swallowed hard, fighting to steady his voice. "I'm Davis. Your husband."
Jessica's eyes widened, disbelief written across her face. She turned to Richard. "Is this true? Am | really
married?"
Richard nodded calmly. "Yes, married for about two years plus.
"What? Two years plus?" Jessica screamed. She pressed her temples, her frustration bubbling over.
"| can remember our last project was with Zelda Groups." She murmured.
Richard scratched his head, his gaze settling anywhere but Jessica.
Looking at the awkward response from the room, Jessica felt something more to the situation.
"That was a project we handled two years ago before you returned to the Brown family and got married to him."
Richard explained, pointing at Davis.
"Does that mean, | am forgetting matters from two years till now?" She asked confusedly.
They silently nodded.
Her words cut deep into Davis. She remembered her career, but not him. Not their love. Not their children.
Elder Allen sighed. "Jessica, don't force it. Just rest. In time, you'll remember."

For just a heartbeat, there was warmth in her eyes like recognition but it vanished as quickly as it came.
Davis shook his head, his knuckles pale. Inside, his heart screamed, but outwardly he kept calm with a decision.
If she can't remember, I'll... help her live it all again, he swore silently.
