The blond man stumbled back in surprise.
Sylvia, after a moment of shock, quickly grabbed Gabriel's arm. "You've misunderstood," she said softly. "This gentleman is a friend
of Grace's."
Gabriel's eyes narrowed. "He's looking for Vivian?"
"You really know Gia! Please, can you taketo her?" the blond man pleaded, his expression a mixture of desperation and
hope.

"I'm a friend of hers," the man explained quickly. "I call the way to C Country to find her. If you know her, please, taketo
see her."
"Why don't you just call her?"
"lI wanted to surprise her, but | lost my phone after | got here. | can't call her, and | don't know exactly where she is," he said, his
shoulders slumping. "I've been wandering around this town all day."
"You call this way to find her, which means you must be close. You lost your phone, but you don't remember her number?"
Gabriel's tone was icy, like an interrogation.
Sylvia suddenly remembered the phone call Grace had taken on their first day at the estate. Her eyes lit up. She tugged on
Gabriel's arm and said to the blond man, "We know where she is. We can take you to her."
Gabriel shot her a sharp look.
Sylvia ignored him. e with us," she told the man.
"Thank you! Thank you both so much!" he exclaimed, his blue eyes shining with joy as he profusely thanked Sylvia.
She smiled and nodded, then took Gabriel by the wrist and led him toward the car.
"You don't know anything about him, and you're just going to bring him back with us?" Gabriel muttered, his face grim as he
glanced back at the man following them.
Sylvia raised an evebrow. "Gab. this isn't Trine. You don't have to interrogate evervone like thev're a sov." She was plavfully
