Chapter 400: Hospital Mole
"What's going on, Athena? What are we doing here?"
The dirty space behind the large broken dusty cupboard where they were currently crouching, hiding, was very
uncomfortable for Ewan, but it was Athena, and so it was okay.
However, he needed to know what he was risking his health for. His voice was hushed, though his eyes were
sharp with curiosity.
"Why are we hiding?" he continued the barrage of questions gently, shifting against the cramped space, noting
the sweat that had overtaken him too.
There was no ventilation where they were, and he knew he would get dizzy, his legs getting cramped, if they
didn’t get out of this space soon.
Athena’s response was to place a finger against her lips, signaling for silence, her gaze on the entrance firm. But
Ewan refused to be silenced.
"You have to tell me, Athena. | chere because of your text. What did you see in the tunnel? Who is coming?"
He pressed on, his whisper edged with insistence, the emotion he had seen on her face in the tunnel enough to
keep pushing.
He rarely saw Athena panic, and seeing that happen before his eyes had made him panic, restless before she
had dived into his arms like she had been running from something.
"Athena..." He placed a hand on her shoulder, causing her to look at him fully for the first tsince they went
into hiding.
"What's going on..." he muttered, his thumb brushing away the sweat beading on her brows.
"We are waiting for the hospital mole. Whoever the person is will be meeting the twins at the secret lab."
Ewan frowned, his brows knitting tightly. "The twins. They are still in the hospital? The tunnel you talked about
discovering, where does it lead to?"
"A large expanse of land with a house at the center, a house with a chimney, old model. That's where the twins
are staying."
Ewan’s brows shot up, almost touching his hairline. "Telleverything."
And so, Athena did—telling him everything, including her thoughts, her questions. And when she was done, Ewan
was just as speechless, his jaw tightening, as frantic to see the mole who had betrayed humanity for a couple of
dollars at most.
"Do you think Herbert knows of this?" Athena questioned, sitting on the dirty floor, her legs already feeling

Ewan joined her with a grunt, brushing dust off his palm. They could worry about their dirty trousers later. "He
may know about the secret doors and all, but | don’t think he is in this, that he is part of this madness... it's
just..."
Ewan shook his head slowly, his expression shadowed. "It's not impossible. As much as Herbert can be fixed in
business and expansion, there are limits he wouldn't cross."
"I think so too, but there are a lot of coincidences."
Ewan nodded, albeit unsurely. Herbert was one of his seniors in business, and the father to one of his good
friends. How could he be behind this madness, when he had his son to consider, when he had been infected with
the virus just a few months back? It just wasn’t feasible.
"Let's see the mole first. If it's Herbert, then well..." The words were even heavy in his mouth. "He will reap the
consequences. But if not, we will still ask him questions. | doubt though he will infect himself with the Grey Virus
to make a point. But we will check out everything, check out everyone."
Athena nodded, the tension in her chest easing slightly. Talking with Ewan always helped put things in
perspective, especially with Aiden working in the government now, with the president.
She looked at him, at his ease with sitting on dust, and shook her head, a soft smile tugging faintly at her lips.
"You know there was a t| thought you were germophobic... with the way you went on about dusty spaces
during our cold marriage..."
Ewan smiled sadly, then shrugged, rubbing the back of his neck. "I actually don’t like dusty spaces. They trigger
reactions on my skin. My nostrils aren't left out either. I'm counting down seconds here."
Athena had no words to say to that, for his implication was clear. He had followed her here because it was her,
and she wasn’t sure how to feel about that.
Fortunately, steps right outside the storage room broke the tension that had started rising between them.
They got up quickly, crouching again, alert, sensitive, exchanging tense glances when they heard the door open,
when the footsteps started toward the wall adjacent to them—the wall which led to the secret lab.
Athena and Ewan nodded to each other, then slowly peered from the little holes in the cupboard they were
hiding behind.
The hell! Ewan cussed mentally, jaw clenching, somehow controlling the urge to spit out the curse when he saw
who was standing by the wall.
Athena, however, couldn't. "What?!!"
As she spoke, she stood to her full height, fury sparking in her eyes, pushing the cupboard with all her strength,
all her anger. The heavy wooden thing scraped noisily, only managing to move aside slightly.
A mixture of feelings swamped Athena, passed through her, but the one that almost blinded her was rage mixed
with shock.
"You..." she breathed out, pointing a shaking hand at the person before her. "You are the mole?"
She watched as the fellow tried to deny, and failed—then tried to defend herself, her cruelty, her wickedness.

But Athena would not budge, not until Ewan tapped her shoulder, his tone steady.
"If the twins are waiting at the lab, | suggest we make good use of it. We can deal with your secretary later."
"She is not my secretary," Athena declared vehemently, hissing softly through her teeth. "She is a betrayer. She
will be sacked, and she will be spending many days in jail."
Ciara wept openly now, her palms pressed together, desperation in her eyes. "I can explain," she kept saying,
darting frantic eyes between Ewan and Athena.
