Is it worth it?” Owen had asked himself the squestion
In the end, his answer was: Yes, it was worth it.
He loved Hailey and was willing to sacrifice everything for her, even his life.
Whoever falls in love first is the loser-that’s something Owen had already accepted. Otherwise, he wouldn't have
done everything he could to keep her by his side.
Owen didn’t answer aloud, but internally, he had settled that question in his mind.
“What do you want?” Alice’s voice cut through the air,
She had been locked away for so long, and now that she was free, she held nothing, ban hatred for them,
Levenge was dif fueled her.
What did Alice want from him-his life? Owen didn’t care, but there was one thing he would not let wayen Wiley
&fex,
here.
He had to find a way to get her out of here safely.
“What do | want?” Alice sneered, swinging the baseball bat in her hand as she approached Owen.
With a swift motion, she raised the bat and slammed it into Owen's back.
Owen let out a grunt of pain, his head bowing slightly as he tightened his arms around Hailey.
“Owen, oh Owen, you really are ruined by a woman. You'd throw your life away for Hailey, Alice mocked. | see
you're going to die for her, aren't you?”
Owen said nothing, merely holding Hailey tighter, keeping her hidden within his arms to shield her from harm
Seeing him ignore her, Alice’s eyes burned with fury. With a forceful swing, she hit him again.
Owen didn’t fight back. He silently endured the blows, beads of sweat dripping down his forehead.
“Owen...” Hailey whispered, her eyes fluttering open.
Her eyes immediately filled with tears.
Owen was slumped over her, pale and covered in sweat, the pain in his expression hidden as he cradled her. She
had never seen him so weak before.

“Owen!” Hailey cried out, her voice breaking as she wept.
Owen didn’t respond.
He had no strength left.
“Oh, you're awake now,” Alice sneered, pulling up a chair to sit down. She coldly observed them both. “Since t I'll
give you both a chance. I've spread gasoline all around here, and there are barrels of it everywhere.
“One spark, and this place will go up in flames. But here's the deal-I'll let one of you go. You two can figure it
out.”
Hailey glanced at Owen.

Owen met her gaze, his eyes dark and deep.
In that brief exchange, they seemed to silently agree on something.

“Hailey, I've done enough for you. | cto save you, not because I still love you, but out of shumanitarian
spirit. If anyone | knew were in danger, | would save them too. But at this point, | don’t think | need to throw my
life away for you, Owen said flatly, releasing his grip.
Alice raised an eyebrow, watching the unfold. She had expected them to negotiate, but it seemed like
when death was imminent, they were ready to part ways.
Hailey clenched her teeth, her head hung low in despair. “Owen, | really misjudged you.”
Owen, having been hit twice, trembled slightly as he stood up. He looked at Alice coldly. “Looks like I'm the one
who will walk away alive. After all, she can’t even walk, how could she leave?”
“Fair point,” Alice chuckled.
Owen turned and walked toward the exit.
Just then, a shadow lunged at Alice from behind.
Owen reacted instantly, turning around and pinning Alice to the ground, wrenching the baseball bat from her
hands and tossing it aside.
He then reached into her pocket, pulling out a lighter and pocketing it.
“Ah!” Alice screamed as she struggled beneath him, veins bulging on her forehead in fury.
Owen held her down with one hand, using the other to untie the ropes around Hailey.
Hailey took a deep breath, her head pounding with pain. But now wasn’t the tto focus on that. She quickly
used the ropes to bind Alice tightly.
Once that was done, Hailey exhaled in relief, though her face was still etched with pain as she gently touched
the wound on the back of her head.
The bleeding had stopped, but the blood had clotted, and the area felt stiff to the touch.
“Owen, Hailey, | curse both of you to die horribly!” Alice screamed, still lying on the ground, her voice full of
madness.
Hailey’s eyes turned cold, and she slapped Alice hard across the face.
Alice's face turned red with rage, her eyes burning with fury.
Years of confinement in the mental hospital had nearly driven Alice mad, even if she had once been sane. Her
mental state had long been hanging on by a thread.
“Alice, you got what you deserved,” Hailey said coldly, her voice sharp. “Don’t act innocent. You're not innocent
at all. Everything that’s happened to you, you brought upon yourself.”
Alice sneered, her eyes filled with venom. “I didn’t do anything wrong. The only mistake | made was not killing
you when | had the chance. Hailey, you're lucky you're still alive. If | could go back, I'd make sure you died by my
hands.”
“Too bad, you won't get another chance,” Hailey sighed softly, just as the sound of police sirens reached their
ears.
The weight in Hailey’s chest finally lifted. She looked at Owen and whispered, “Are you okay?”
Owen's face was pale, but he shook his head calmly. “I'm fine.”

“No matter what, thank you for coming. | don’t know if | would have made it out alive without you.” Hailey said,
her voice tinged with a bitter smile.
Owen turned his head, glancing at her briefly. “Did you think | wouldn't come?”
Hailey met his gaze, pursing her lips, but said nothing.
Owen let out a soft, cynical laugh, and without another word, he stood up, moving toward the door.
“Police are here. Let's go,” Owen said, walking out of the room.
As Hailey followed him, she noticed his footsteps were a little unsteady.
Just as they reached the door, Alice’s crazed laughter echoed from behind. “Do you really think you're going to
walk away?”
she screamed.
Hailey turned back, her heart pounding. She saw Alice struggling to sit up, her face pale and her hair wild,
looking almost like a ghost. “I've already planted explosives in this warehouse. There are only ten seconds left.”
Hailey’s eyes shrank in terror.
Owen reacted instantly, grabbing Hailey and running toward the exit.
But how far could they run in ten seconds?
Hailey felt disoriented, her mind racing, as the deafening roar of the explosion and a burst of flames erupted
behind them
The explosion was so close, despite their desperate sprint.
The heat of the blast threatened to scorch them alive.
Owen threw himself on top of Hailey, shielding her with his body as debris and dust rained down from the
destroyed warehouse.
