Hailey handed him the agent’s phone number.
Owen furrowed his brow, then as if remembering something, said, “Wait a moment”
He took out his phone and walked aside to make a call. “The apartment on Méliwick Route has been rented out?”
“Got it.”

Hanging up, Owen approached Hailey, his tone polite but distant. “The vacant properties are all handled by my
assistant, so I'm not fully aware of the details. Apologies for the inconvenience.”
Hailey pressed her lips together, offering a smile. “It’s fine. | didn’t realize this was your property. Don’t worry, I'll
be moving out soon and find somewhere else to stay.”
“It doesn’t matter who rents it. Since you've already found this place, it seems like fate. No need to keep
searching for another,” Owen replied coldly, his voice devoid of emotion.
Hailey paused, glancing at him. She couldn't quite understand what he meant by that.
She thought it best that they not have any more connections, even as landlord and tenant.
After a brief moment of thought, she said, “No, I'll be looking for another place to live soon.”
Owen's icy gaze fixed on her, making Hailey shiver slightly.
Three years had passed, and Owen had only becmore perfect, yet more detached from others.
In the past, she had been someone special to him, able to bask in his kindness. But now, she was just another
stranger to
him.
“Hailey,” Owen spoke, his voice cold with a hint of mockery. “You really don’t need to avoidlike this.”
Hailey’s face went pale, her heart tightening at his words.

He was telling her that he had long since moved on and didn’t care about the past anymore. It was she who still
held onto it.
Hailey lifted her gaze to meet his, her eyes clouded with emotion.
She took a deep breath and said, “I understand. | must have overthought things.”
Owen let out a low, hollow laugh-whether at her or himself, she couldn't tell.
“Sorry to bother you today,” he said with a faint, emotionless smile before turning and walking out of the room.
Hailey bit her lip and followed him, watching him leave.
Owen moved toward the hallway and opened the door with deliberate slowness, almost as if waiting for
something.
But he didn’t wait long. He stepped outside without looking back, and Hailey, still in the room, quickly locked the
door behind him. She leaned against the door, taking a deep breath.
Her heart felt hollow and heavy.
She squatted down, hugging her knees, burying her face in her arms.
It seemed like he had already moved on, while she was still stuck in the past.

Finding a better apartment in Achusville was difficult, and Hailey knew it would be almost impossible to find one
with better conditions than this one.
After spending the night in hesitation, she decided to stay. Just as Owen had said, there was no need for her to
avoid him.
After all, Owen already had another woman in his life, so there was no reason for her to worry.
When Owen liked someone, he would spoil them completely, and everyone else would fade into the background.
Even if Miss Burke found out about their past, she likely wouldn't feel threatened.
Hailey took a deep breath, changed clothes, and left for work. On the way, she dropped off Gracie’s jacket at the
dry cleaners, intending to return it to her tonight. From now on, aside from their landlord-tenant relationship, she
would have no further ties to Owen.
The day passed quickly.
As the workday ended, Hailey called Gracie, and they arranged to meet.
After work, Hailey picked up the jacket from the dry cleaners before calling a taxi to the restaurant.
As she walked into the restaurant, Hailey spotted Owen.
He looked tall and refined in a light-colored suit, his gaze calm and gentle.
Gracie was standing next to him, adjusting his cufflinks, saying something playful. Owen looked down at her, his
expression soft and affectionate.
Hailey stood in the doorway, watching them from a distance.
The warm sunlight streamed through the windows, casting their shadows together-an image of perfect harmony.
At that moment, everything in her told her that Owen was no longer hers.
She felt something inside her break.
She stood there, bathed in sunlight, yet it felt as though she was trapped in an icy cavern.
“Miss Dalton, you're here,” Gracie’s voice called out as she noticed Hailey.
Owen looked up in response.
Hailey stood there, her face pale, clearly having seen everything-
His expression shifted, a brief flicker of something in his eyes before he returned to his usual cold demeanor,
shutting down all warmth.
Gracie jogged over to Hailey, smiling brightly. “Thank you for coming all the way here.”
Hailey smiled faintly and handed over the jacket. “It’s no trouble. | should be the one thanking you.”

“It was nothing. You're too polite,” Gracie said with a smile. “Since we ran into each other and you know Owen,
why don’t we all have dinner together?”
Owen started walking toward them.
Hailey shook her head, her smile polite but distant. “No, | have other plans.”

“It’s after work. What other plans could you have? Miss Dalton, | think we're destined to be good friends. And
since you know Owen, we should definitely have a meal together. You're not rushing hto be with your
boyfriend, are you?” Gracie teased with a playful grin.
Hailey froze, sensing the sudden chill in the air.
She lifted her gaze, meeting Owen's cold, expressionless stare.
Hailey quickly shifted her eyes, smiling at Gracie.
Before she could explain that she didn’t have a boyfriend, a voice suddenly interrupted from behind her. “Of
course, she’s rushing to be with her boyfriend.”
Hailey turned around in surprise. “Raphael?”
Raphael, dressed casually, approached with a warm smile, gently taking her hand. “I've been wanting to take
stoff to find you, but the hospital's been too busy. Today, | finally had the chance. Hailey, you're not
upset, are you?”
Hailey opened her mouth, uncertain of Raphael's intentions.
But in front of others, she didn’t want to embarrass him. So she smiled and shook her head.
“Wow, Miss Dalton, your boyfriend is really handsome,” Gracie gushed with admiration.
