Chapter 737 A Special Understanding Breakfast was prepared by Eleanor. For everyone's convenience, the cups were always kept separate from the cutlery, placed on the left side. However, Josiah was an exception due to a burn on the back of his right hand. He temporarily used his left hand for utensils, so his cup was accordingly placed on the right side.
In other words, she had been using Josiah's cup, which was on her left side, while she was drinking milk just now! The thought struck Lysander, and instantly, she snapped awake from her deep drowsiness.
She attempted to stealthily switch the two cups of milk back, but just as her fingertips grazed the rim of the cup, they brushed against the back of his hand, wrapped in gauze. Startled as if burned, she promptly withdrew her hand back to its original position.
Almost at the stime, Josiah realized his mistake of using the wrong cup. He knew she was quite particular about personal hygiene. Immediately, he regained his composure, intending to discreetly switch the cups before she noticed, to spare her any discomfort.
But lately, it seemed like the two of them shared an unspoken understanding.
Susan and Laura, sitting across the table, witnessed the entire scene. Anticipating their embarrassment, they tried to lighten the mood with a chuckle. "There are so many cups on the table. If you two happen to mix them up, just swap them around." Lysander touched the tip of her nose, unsure of how to explain.
Susan truly cherished her, there was no doubt about that. However, in the presence of her former mother-in-law, expressing disdain for the cup her son had used seemed quite inappropriate. Even though she was now too exhausted to care, old habits were indeed hard to change.
Follow on NovᴇlEnglish.nᴇt"Right, just a simple switch will do." Josiah genuinely swapped their drinks, but all he did was give Lysander the untouched cup he had, while he continued to drink from the one she had sipped from.
Lysander paused momentarily, then decided to act as if the minor incident had never occurred, continuing to eat her breakfast with milk.
Today was a workday, but it was also the day Josiah returned to have his bandages changed and his condition reassessed. He had switched into a loose outfit and, leaning on his crutch, prepared to head out.
Lysander quickly stopped him. "You should use the wheelchair. Once we get to the hospital, we don't know how long you'll have to stand." Josiah chuckled lightly. "I understand, Dr. Thorne wouldn't pull strings for me." Instinctively, Lysander glanced at his leg, mentally assessing the severity of his injury.
Josiah's injuries were indeed severe. Apart from the most serious leg injury, he also had a number of burns and abrasions on his body.
He had sustained such severe injuries solely for the purpose of saving her. It was only logical and emotionally right for her to lend a hand in return.
However, his injury wasn't life-threatening, requiring immediate attention. Besides, he was a grown man, not sfrail individual.
Lysander was somewhat troubled.
"What are you thinking about?" Lysander snapped back to reality. "Are you in a rush to get to the office? If you are, I could ask Lynn to..." "No need, I'm not in a hurry," Josiah said, "I also want to accompany you to the hospital like any other couple." The Central Hospital was not just Lysander's old stomping ground, but also the place where she first found her purpose in life. Being here was far more comfortable for her than being in places like Guerra Group or Thorne Constructions and Energies.
Though Josiah was seated in an electric wheelchair, the crowd here was always particularly dense. She was worried that his injured leg might get bumped again. So, without even sparing a moment to greet Lynn, she focused solely on getting him to change his bandages and have a checkup.
The doctor was the sone who had examined Josiah during his last visit. After reviewing the scans, he relaxed and said, "Your bones are fine now. You just need to rest well and be careful when you walk." Although Josiah's bone injury was painful, it was minor compared to the burns. After a period of recuperation, walking was no longer a risk of re-injury. The real challenge, indeed, was dealing with the burns.
Burn injuries were highly susceptible to infection, and during the recovery period, they could deteriorate, showing signs of ulceration and peeling. The sight during bandage changes was particularly unpleasant.
In the past, when Lysander worked in obstetrics and gynecology, she had becaccustomed to all sorts of wounds. It was this experience that qualified her to be in the operating room. In her view, the minor burn that Josiah had sustained was nothing significant compared to what she had seen before, so she didn't take it to heart.
However, Josiah couldn't help but feel uneasy, no matter how hard he tried to rationalize his thoughts.
People often say that women dress to please others, but he, as a grown man, was also very concerned about his image, especially in front of Lysander. Moreover, his visit to the hospital wasn't solely for a check-up, he had an important matter to discuss in person.
Lysander pushed the wheelchair, escorting Josiah toward the burn department in the west.
Follow on Novᴇl-Onlinᴇ.cᴏmThere were already people inside the office consulting with the doctor, so they had to wait outside for a while. Josiah was mentally calculating the time, anticipating that the patient inside should be coming out soon. Suddenly, he turned to Lysander and asked, "By the way, have we paid the bill earlier?" "Hasn't the bill for the x-ray been paid already?" Lysander queried in return.
In the hospital, payment was required before any tests could be conducted. The only exception to this rule was in the case of emergencies, where patients could be fast-tracked and sent directly for life-saving treatment.
Josiah had little experience with seeking medical treatment on his own. His understanding of the process was still stuck at the twhen he last accompanied Lysander to check if she was pregnant der Realizing this knowledge was of no use now, he cleared his throat and said hesitantly, "I have a bit of a sore throat." Lysander recalled his low fever from a while ago and asked with concern, "Are you feeling unwell anywhere else?" "No." Josiah found an excuse for himself. "I guess I am just a bit thirsty." Lysander immediately responded, "All right, wait here for a bit, I'll go buy you swater." There was a supermarket just outside the outpatient department. Making a round trip there hardly took any tat all.
Josiah quickly estimated the time, feeling it was insufficient. In haste, he tried to make up for it, saying, "I'm having a bit of a sore throat. Can I get shot water?" Lysander looked at him doubtfully and asked, "Is it really just a sore throat you're dealing with?" He seldom had so many demands.
Josiah, with a serious look on his face, urged, "Really, you should go now. By the tyou return, Ishould be done changing the bandages. If E you happen to run into Lynn, please send her my regards. The list she made was a great help when I went to the countryside to buy medicine." Lysander was rather bewildered, but considering she had indeed cto the Central Hospital, it made sense to pay Lynn a visit. After all the el.ne by the time, Lynn was probably seeing a patient. Going to the doctor's office to get a papercup and hot water was indeed more efficient than queuing up at the inpatient department's water room.
Josiah watched as Lysander left, then he propelled his wheelchair toward the opposite end of the corridor. There, an elevator led directly to the hospital's administrative office.
Lysander was very familiar with the way to the Obstetrics and Gynecology department, she could find her way there even with her eyes cast down when she arrived, Lynn had just finished her rounds and was preparing to return to her office. Upon seeing Lysander, her eyes lit up. "Dr. Thorne, you're back so soon!" Lynn had always been quite fond of her, and was extremely delighted upon seeing her.
Lysander chuckled lightly, not giving it much thought. She smiled and asked, "Yeah, by the way, do we still have paper cups in the office? I cto get shot water." Lynn handed her the water, grinning as she asked, "You're not leaving again this time, are you?" Lysander pondered, "The village already has new medical staff, they don't needfor now. Even if I were to go somewhere else... It would have to wait until next year."
