Chapter 549 Impatience
Over at Trident Group, Avery was having a great day.
Her life had been wonderful lately. Both her work and personal life had been going perfectly.
She and Cayden discussed and agreed that they would go to City Hall to register their marriage by the end of the
month.
The thought of officially becoming Cayden's wife made Avery feel like she was on cloud nine.
Although she was ostensibly participating in the weekly meeting of the design department, her mind wandered off
as she imagined Cayden and herself at City Hall signing their marriage certificate.
“Ms. Rumpley...” Wisteria's cold voice echoed around the conference room, rudely piercing through her daydream.
Wisteria glared at Avery in displeasure. It was obvious to her that Avery was thinking of something completely
unrelated to work. A look of dissatisfaction and disgust crossed her face briefly.
Nina pinched Avery's thigh to get her attention.
The latter immediately snapped back to her senses.
All the faces along the long conference table were turned toward her, staring unblinkingly. Even Cayden, who was
seated at the head of the table, was watching her.
Avery tucked her hair behind her ears self-consciously and straightened in her seat. “Ms. Summers, please carry
on.”
Avery sneaked a glance at Cayden. He was sitting perfectly upright and wore a rather stern expression. In public, he
seemed cool and detached. It was the complete opposite of the passionate man that he was in bed. It was as if he
was two different people.
Cayden did not really need to show up at the design department's weekly meetings. However, since it was the end
of the month and the reports of the progress of the joint venture between Trident Group and Vivi Group and various
other branches needed to be reported, coupled with Cayden's famously enigmatic personality, it was no surprise
that he was suddenly present at the meeting.

they had never outwardly spoken their mind, all her colleagues looked at Avery with cynical eyes, especially her
female colleagues, who were undoubtedly envious of her position.
At the same time, the employees all secretly mocked Wisteria, who had once thought that she would become
Cayden's wife.
Wisteria was aware of their amusement at her expense.
Although they were still outwardly respectful of her, she could see their false sympathy and gleeful delight at her
disappointment in their eyes which made Wisteria deeply frustrated and annoyed.
She glanced at Avery, and her eyes fell on her pregnant belly. Disdain flooded her eyes. “Have you been feeling
tired recently? Is that why you were distracted?”
“No, I...” Avery swallowed nervously, unsure of what to say under Wisteria's scornful glare.
Wisteria leaned back in her chair and sneered, “You don't seem to be very focused. It must be because you didn't
get enough rest last night, right? You're pregnant now. Pregnant women are delicate and easily tired. You should
rest more. If this is too difficult for you, you should apply for a long leave from work so that you wouldn't slow down
our operations. At the same time, you would be getting enough rest for yourself and the baby.”
Although Wisteria was smiling and wearing a sincere expression and that her every word seemed to be in Avery's
best interest, Avery could see that Wisteria's smile did not reach her eyes.
Besides, Wisteria's words were indirectly criticizing Avery for being weak while pregnant and delaying the work of
the entire design department.
Just as Avery was about to explain herself, Cayden's voice rang throughout the conference room. “Don't worry. She
rested well last night, but she had to prepare for her Certified Professional Constructor exam for the past few days,
so she had been rather stressed. Anyway, I believe Avery will not let us down, work-wise.”
Everyone was taken aback.
They had not expected him to defend Avery so publicly.
Wow, Mr. Moore confirmed that Avery had a good sleep last night! Does this mean he spent last night with her?
Cayden's words reminded Avery of what he had done to her the previous night, and she blushed prettily.
I was on top of him last night...
The image turned Avery's cheeks even redder.
Cayden narrowed his eyes at Avery. She was wearing a conservative black suit designed especially for pregnant
women.
However, her pregnancy had changed her body, and the white shirt under her blazer was stretched a little tight.
The buttons on her chest looked as if they were ready to pop open. That, coupled with her crimson cheeks, made
her look especially ravishing to him at that moment.
A feeling of need and impatience suddenly overtook Cayden.
He took a deep gulp of his coffee to quell the passionate flame burning in his chest and made a mental note to
order the design department to redesign the suit for pregnant women to better accommodate their changing
bodies.
A look of embarrassment descended upon Wisteria’s face.
Cayden coming to Avery's rescue in such a public setting made her bitter blood boil.
However, she concealed her emotions well, and no one could read her expression except for Avery, who was
unusually sensitive and empathetic.
The meeting went on for more than half an hour as each employee took turns reporting their work progress.
Toward the end of the meeting, Wisteria made another brief summary. Then, upon receiving the signal from
Cayden, she breathed a sigh of relief and dismissed everyone. “Okay, everyone, the meeting is concluded.”
The entire design department quickly packed up their files, got up from their seats, and left the conference room.
Trident Group employees were always busy, especially those in the design department. Everyone was always eager
to maximize their work hours.
After all, in a society teeming with talent, underperforming employees were rapidly replaced. Anyone who lagged

Avery knew that Cayden was going out of the city on a business trip the next day. She deliberately dawdled behind,
packing her things slowly.
Finally, only Wisteria, Cayden, and herself were left in the conference room.
Swallowing her resentment, Wisteria cast a cold look at Avery. Then, she secretly glanced at Cayden. Neither of
them noticed her looking between them. Their eyes were locked on each other as if they were the only two people
in the room. Wisteria felt like an unwanted and unwelcome third wheel. It was a deeply discomforting feeling.
Wisteria did not want to give Avery and Cayden a chance to be alone together. Cayden stared at her with icy eyes
that seemed to see right through her. As a result, she flinched and wisely decided to leave the room.
As soon as the door had closed behind her, Cayden's expression relaxed and turned into a gentle, doting look.
He patted his lap and waved Avery over. “Ery, come here.”
Avery obediently approached him.
She suddenly thought of her upcoming exam and commented nervously, “I wonder if I'll be able to pass tomorrow's
papers...”
Although she had studied intensely, there were four papers in the Certified Professional Constructor examination,
and the bulk of the subject matter was very heavy. Besides, the examination questions were bound to be very
complex. Avery could not help worrying, although she felt confident in her preparations.
She had only applied to sit for two papers this round.
“Don't worry. You're a smart girl. I believe you will easily pass the papers,” Cayden reassured her with a smile. In his
eyes, she was the most amazing woman in the world.
Avery thought about how Cayden had managed to pass all four papers in one go and felt a little frustrated.
She felt inadequate when she compared herself to him.
Just as Avery was about to complain about his extraordinary brain, Cayden suddenly pulled out several test papers
from under his notebook.
Avery's jaw fell open as she stared at the “test papers” in horror.
No way! He didn't actually get his hands on the actual exam papers, right?
