Chapter 118 NBB.

Alex's voice was rough, but his touch was surprisingly gentle as he wiped away Ellie's tears. "Are you still going to keep treatinglike a stranger?" he asked, his voice softer than he realized.

Ellie lowered her gaze and stayed silent, her tears flowing even more.

"Hop on," Alex said, crouching down to give Ellie a piggyback ride.

Ellie tugged at him to get up. "You're hurt. I can walk by myself, she insisted.

Alex gently tapped Ellie's ankle. "Hop on. If you walk barefoot, you'll end up hurting your feet." Ellie looked down and noticed she was missing a shoe.

Then, Alex carried Ellie on his back and got them out of there. To avoid getting chased and retaliated against by those guys, he took her to a nearby hotel.

With only one room left, he insisted on using his ID to book it. Once inside, he checked the room thoroughly, making sure to lock the doors and windows tight..

"Sit down and lettake a look at your foot," Alex said, pushing Ellie to sit on the bed's edge. He knelt on the floor, took off her dirty sock, and grumbled, "This place isn't right for you. You're coming hwithtomorrow.

"Working so hard for just that bit of money a month. Am I not providing for you? Do you realize how serious the consequences would have been if I hadn't been there tonight? You're so reckless, the only skill you have is acting tough with me, just now-" Alex's voice was abruptly cut off. The next moment, without any warning, he fell into Ellie's arms.

Ellie laid him down on the bed, her heart sinking at the sight of dried blood covering half his face. Tears streamed down her cheeks uncontrollably.

She grabbed her phone and sent a request to the front desk for smedical supplies. Then, kneeling beside him, she began to clean the wound on Alex's forehead.

She thought about how Alex had risked his life to save her from those thugs; how he held her close and reassured her that as long as he was alive, no one would harm her; and how he kept carrying her despite bleeding, even when his steps were unsteady.

Ellie couldn't stop herself from crying out loud. Trying to completely forget someone she loved was like quitting smoking; there were no shortcuts, only the need to endure. She was doing fine, but why did he have to chere and disturb her heart again? In the middle of the night, Alex woke up feeling disoriented with a splitting headache. When he saw Ellie sleeping with her head on the side of the bed, his pained look softened.

Despite the headache, he carefully got out of bed, picked her up, and gently laid her on it. After checking the injury on her foot, he headed for the shower.

Alex took a quick shower and cout wearing a white bathrobe only to find Ellie restless in her sleep. Sitting on the edge of the bed, he leaned over, supporting himself with one hand, and looked down at her pale face.

Noticing Ellie's furrowed brows as she slept, Alex couldn't help reaching out to gently touch her forehead. "What's worrying 11:08 Thu, Jan 30 WBB Chapter 118 you so much? Is it me?" he wondered aloud.

e He softly ran his fingers over her cheek, his expression revealing his feelings were no longer sinaple. With ope hand braced beside her, he leaned in slowly. His warm breath hovered near her lips for a long tbefore he suddenly pulled back.

Alex went to the couch outside and lit a cigarette as he lay down Just then, he heard snoise at the door. He glanced at the clock-it was just past 4 AM, and his eyes beccautious. He put out his cigarette and got up as the knocking on the door beclouder. "Who is it?" Alex stood by the door. The person outside stayed silent, continuing to knock. Alex tidied his bathrobe slightly and suddenly swung open the door.

"Surprise." Haley grinned.

"What are you doing here?" Alex instinctively looked back towards the bedroom.

Haley followed his gaze and immediately noticed a woman's coal on the sofa. She knew it very well. It was the coat Aaron had bought for Ellie for her birthday. At that time, Haley and Aaron hadn't broken up yet, and she had helped Aaron choose that coat.
