Chapter 117 Chapter 117 78%1 Underneath an abandoned bridge several miles from the hospital, Ellie looked around fearfully. Besides the two men who had kidnapped her, a few homeless people were staring at her with predatory eyes.

Broken tents and mats were scattered messily under the bridge, likely serving as the base for these people. Those gathered here were notorious for their violent clashes, drug use, and diseases. In a place like this, even the police specially avoid it at night-no one was going to cto rescue her.

Seeing two men coming at her with evil intent, Ellie fumbled behind her frantically and finally clutched a small dry twig in her hand.

As one of them leaned in close with vulgar words, she jabbed the twig hard into his eye. Instantly, a scream echoed under the quiet bridge, and Ellie got up and ran.

"You slut." The insults grew closer behind Ellie, and suddenly, she slipped and fell to the ground. As the men slowed down and surrounded her, she was overwhelmed by a terror that felt like despair.

With trembling hands, she searched for something to defend herself. Just then, she heard a muffled grunt followed by the sound of something heavy falling.

When Ellie opened her eyes, she saw Alex fighting fiercely against the group all by himself. Tears instantly welled up in her eyes, and she was shocked as he delivered a powerful blow, knocking down a thug along with a gun.

Ellie gathered her courage, picked up the gun, and pulled the trigger. When she was with the Warren family, she had taken self-defense classes with Alex for several years, and he had taught her mostly shooting. With a loud bang, a thug fell down.

"Go!" Alex didn't wait for Ellie to respond. He grabbed the gun and pulled her along. Just as they were about to take the side path, a few motorcycles cdriving towards them. He quickly pulled her into the tall grass, about waist-high.

Behind a big tree, with one hand holding a gun around her waist and the other supporting the back of her head, he pressed her against him. “It's okay. Don't be scared,” he reassured gently Ellie was trembling with fear, and Alex lowered his chin to rest on her shoulder. "As long as I'm alive, no one can touch you. Close your eyes and don't think about anything."

Ellie, caught in a whirlwind of fear and panic, obediently shut her eyes. om In the darkness Alex leaned against the tree trunk, holding her close. The only sound around was their calm breathing.

Only when the angry voices faded into the distance did Alex slowly release Ellie. Seeing her pafe face, he couldn't hide the concern in his eyes as he teased softly, "You're such a scaredy-cat
