Chapter 491 Maybe it was because he realized Claire was about to be kidnapped and lose a kidney, but even Ethan's gaze softened as he looked at her.
"Where are you headed? Letgive you a ride." Claire hid the sneer in her eyes. What a hypocrite.
"No need. I have legs and they work just fine. I'll walk myself." Ethan frowned. He wasn't sure why, but he especially hated hearing her use the word "cripple." "You know, you're like a dog biting the hand that feeds it. Can't recognize a good person when you see one." A good person? She was about to have her own brother sell her out for an organ, and he still called himself a good guy? She'd already seen plenty of his shamelessness, so Claire didn't bother arguing with someone whose logic was this warped.
She strode straight for the door. As she pulled it open, she saw May wheeling her bicycle toward the gate. "May." The nslipped out before she could stop herself.
May was just about to pedal away. She paused, looking at Claire in surprise. "Do I know you?" It was odd-May had felt a sense of familiarity from the moment she first saw this young lady.

"Oh, Ms. Jones mentioned you toearlier," Claire covered smoothly.
May found it strange-why would Ms. Jones bring up a maid? But she didn't question it further.
"Are you heading home? Where to? I can give you a lift," May offered warmly.
Claire shook her head. "That's alright, thank you." May glanced at her again. "It's getting dark. Where are you off to?" May smiled. "My daughter's in her last year of middle school. Finals are coming up in a couple of months, so she's been staying late for extra lessons. I'm just going to pick her up from school." Claire did a quiek calculation-yes, Mandy would be in her final year now. Mandy was always a good student. If it hadn't been for Claire breaking her arm delivering Mandy's exam admission slip in her previous life, Mandy wouldn't have ended up at an ordinary high school.
Claire's smile deepened. "Drive safe, May." This taround, there was no need for her to risk anything for Mandy's exams.
Claire believed Mandy would get into a great school on her own.
"Are you sure you don't need a ride?" May still sounded worried.
The girl looked so young to be walking alone at night. What if something happened? "It's alright. Someone's coming to pickup soon." Claire figured that as soon as she left the estate, Nathan and his people would be along to kidnap her.
"Oh, someone's coming. That's good then." May gave her a warm smile and cycled away.
Claire didn't linger and stepped out of the villa.

Adah watched the entire exchange from the window, her heart aching.
Claire still cared about May so much-treated her more like a mother than she ever treated her own mom.
As the streetlights flickered on, the estate wasn't dark at all) Claire m walked steadily toward the gates. Just then, a man approached from the opposite direction.
At first, from a distance, Claire didn't pay him much attention. But as he drew closer, there was something familiar about him.
When they were just a few steps apart, Claire realized who it was-Victor Lewis.
In her previous life, Victor hadn't
liked her for a long time. It was only after she got out of prison that his attitude toward her changed. He'd even helped her uncover Nathan and Sophia's affair. Claire stopped in her tracks, staring at Victor in shock.
Victor also found her face strangely familiar, but for the life of him, he couldn't recall where he'd seen her before.
