Chapter 444 Usually, whenever Sean was at home, she barely stepped out of her room, doing her best to avoid running into him.

This time, she only ventured out because she'd seen Sean leave earlier; it was the only tshe felt safe enough.

She never expected to run into Claire instead.

Claire's eyes instantly went cold, narrowing with suspicion as she watched Yvonne approach.

Noticing the caution in Claire's gaze, Yvonne cursed inwardly: Typical-Sean's little friends are just as insufferable as he is.

Masking her distaste, Yvonne reached out with a manicured hand, her nails painted a glossy red, and tried to pat Claire's head. Her voice dripped with sickly sweetness. "Well, aren't you just adorable? Whose little girl are you? Are you Sean's friend?" Claire recoiled, ducking away so Yvonne's hand caught nothing but air.

Yvonne's eyes flashed with sudden anger.

Brat. Doesn't know her place.

As Yvonne studied Claire, her gaze fell on the pendant hanging around the girl's neck.

Wait a second. That pendant looks exactly like the one Sean always wears.

No-this *is* Sean's pendant.

He guarded it jealously, never letting anyone so much as touch it. Now, here it was, dangling from this little brat's neck.

A sly, malicious smile crept across Yvonne's lips.

So, Sean actually cares about this kid-cares enough to give her something he treasures.

If something were to happen to the girl-if she were hurt, or even killed-how devastated would Sean be? She couldn't get to Sean directly, that freak was untouchable. But if she went after someone he cared about, maybe that would be enough to destroy him.

With that thought, Yvonne suddenly grabbed Claire, lifting her up and dragging her toward the staircase railing, intending to throw her over the edge.

After all, there were no cameras in the house. If anyone asked, she could just say the little girl fell by accident. But Claire was sharp-she realized Yvonne's intention at once.

This woman, Yvonne, was just as vicious as she'd been in a past life.

The very first tthey met before, she'd beaten Claire without a second thought. And now, on their first Counter in this life, Yvonne was already trying to kill her.

Claire's small hands shot out, clutching Yvonne's clothes, and she screamed at the top of her lungs, "Sean! Help me!" Her cry echoed through the vast house.

Sean, who was in the kitchen making fresh juice for Claire, froze when he heard her scream. His heart skipped a beat, and he sprinted out of the kitchen.

Looking up, he saw Yvonne trying to throw Claire over the upstairs railing. His face darkened with fury.

"Touch her, and you'll regret it." His voice trembled with barely-contained rage. Yvonne nearly collapsed when she saw him.

"S-Sean? You're home?"

"No, no-it's not what it looks like! I was just playing a little joke on her, e you've got it all wrong!" Panicking, Yvonne hastily set Claire down, her eyes wide with terror as she stared at Sean.

He still held a paring knife in his hand from slicing fruit, and the way he glared at Yvonne-silent, velge menacing-he looked every bit avenging angel.

Then, without warning, Sean's expression softened into a bright smile.

"Claire, chave sjuice."

Relief washed over Claire. She glanced back at Yvonne, a mocking smile on her lips then skipped down the stairs toward Sean, grabbing his hand tightly.

Together, they walked into the kitchen. At the Sean turned back and fixed with a look so cold it sent a chill straight down her spine.
