Chapter 50 He Had Agreed to Her Whims

Josephine gritted her teeth in pain until her jaw hurt as she stared at Lewis’ cold eyes. Soon, she

began to give up hope.

Lewis didn’t make a move. He simply observed as she stopped struggling before letting go of her.

Josephine slid down from the table, clutched her abdomen, and curled into a ball on the floor. She

didn’t dare move.

Everything hurt.

“Think carefully about what I said.” Lewis’ voice came from above her.

As he turned around to leave, he felt a tug on his pants. Josephine had grabbed him. She looked at

him with a pale face. Anyone who had eyes could see that she was in serious pain.

Her lips trembled as she sucked in two deep breaths to suppress her pain. Then, Josephine released

her grip on him and signed slowly, “Since you despise me so much, why didn’t you divorce me?”

Lewis’ eyes darkened, and he bent down to her level. He placed a finger under her chin. “It seems like

you really do have a goldfish memory. Have you forgotten what I said?”

Josephine stared at him weakly. She didn’t forget.

He had told her to never meet with Avery again and to never talk about divorce. And yet, she had

disobeyed him multiple times. Josephine felt like a caged dog. There was nothing that she was allowed

to do but wag her tail and smile at her master dutifully.

She signed, “Was this what you meant when you said you’d take care of me for the rest of my life? By

locking me up in a cage for all eternity?”

Lewis stared at Josephine’s teary eyes, and an indescribable expression flashed across his face for a

moment.

After a long while, he said, “It’s fine if you want to see it that way.”

His words struck her like a lightning bolt. Josephine shut her eyes and let her tears flow. Her face was

pale-such was her complexion.

After a while, she opened her eyes and signed, “If I promise to never meet Avery again, will you help

her get out of her predicament?”

“Josephine, I’m not here to negotiate with you.” Lewis rejected her ruthlessly and

released her lower jaw.

He got up. “It seems like you’ve already made your choice.”

After he said that, he walked out of the door without looking back.

Josephine continued to sit on the floor, her messy hair splayed across her face.

As Lewis headed downstairs, he saw that Mrs. Jinkins was in the middle of moving. her belongings out

the door. She froze upon seeing him; it was embarrassing, as there was no way that she could hide the

things she was carrying.

The rags that she owned were simply out of place in the luxurious villa.

Lewis removed his coat from the coat rack and glanced at her. “Don’t ever let me see this junk again.”

“I was just about to-” Mrs. Jinkins paused for a moment and stared at him as she asked, “What do you

mean, Master Lewis?”

He replied calmly, “Since it’s by her grace that you’re allowed to stay here, do look after her.”

Mrs. Jinkins stood there blankly for a while before finally registering what Lewis meant. A look of

dismay swept across her wrinkled face. She quickly let go of her tattered rags and ran upstairs to look

for Josephine.

Mrs. Jinkins was startled to find her crumpled on the floor near the door to the study, and she hurried

over to help her. “What happened, Josie?”

Slowly, Josephine cracked open her eyes. Her forehead and neck were covered in a cold sweat, as if

she had just been fished out of the water.

With great difficulty, she raised her hand to touch her lower abdomen. That was when Mrs. Jinkins

noticed the bloodstains on her pants.

“You…” Mrs. Jinkins’ face changed again, and she whipped out her phone to call for an ambulance.

Josephine held onto her phone and shook her head.

“But you’re already bleeding, why don’t you want to go to the hospital?!”

Josephine signed, “It’s just my period. I’ll be fine with some painkillers.”

Mrs. Jinkins wasn’t very convinced, as there wasn’t a lot of blood, but she still helped Josephine get up

and go to her bedroom.

She brought some painkillers for her and went to brew some chamomile tea in the kitchen.

Josephine held the warm teacup in her hands and let the heat spread from her palms. Over time, her

complexion began to improve.

Mrs. Jinkins looked like she wanted to say something to Josephine, but she remained silent.

She waited until Josephine finished drinking her tea before she asked, “So, what happened between

you and Master Lewis?”

It was obvious that things weren’t normal just based on Lewis’ strange attitude. It also seemed like

there was an unexplainable and tacit implication that something was going on.

Josephine merely shook her head. She wasn’t sure either. She didn’t know what Lewis’s deal was.

She didn’t know just when she had become nothing to him. It might’ve begun when they first got

married, or it might’ve begun even before that.

After all, he had to a*ide by his grandfather’s dying wish to marry Josephine instead of the woman he

loved. Although he didn’t hate Josephine, he couldn’t treat her the way he usually did.

It was a strange and complicated relationship.

She turned to look at Mrs. Jinkins. Seeing that the elderly woman was still allowed to be in the house,

Josephine understood that she had basically promised Lewis that she would never see Avery again.

If she tried to insist on doing things her way again, it would surely affect Mrs. Jinkins. too. Mrs. Jinkins

was so old that there was no way that she would be okay if she had to go through all this drama.

Josephine shut her eyes as she leaned against the bed frame and listened to the sound of rain outside

her window.

She laid in bed for two whole days without contacting Avery. Avery had texted her, asking if Lewis had

given her trouble after they returned home.

Josephine didn’t dare reply to Avery’s text, so she could only try to ignore it.

She spent her days surfing the internet, and Avery gradually faded into the back of her mind.

Josephine saw that Descendant of the Dragons had suddenly grown in popularity due to the release of

the promotional video.

The game company had released a movie containing Mythinth’s lore, and it was a

touching movie. Many of the comments under the post talked about how great the story and movie

direction was and how they were moved to tears.

Mythinth was a girl in a wheelchair, so Sierra’s leg injury didn’t affect her performance at all.

And because Lewis had invested a lot of money to advertise the movie, it made the movie reach a

wider target audience and ultimately almost broke the internet due to its popularity.

As a result, Sierra’s popularity exploded overnight, and she quickly gained millions of followers on her

social media.

Josephine scrolled through Sierra’s Instagram page and saw that she had posted many pictures

showing off her wealth and her romantic affairs.

However, Lewis’ face couldn’t be seen in any of the photos. At most, only his hands and part of his

body were revealed.

His fingers were finely sculpted, and he had a great body shape. His mere silhouette could evoke

feelings of reverie in everyone who saw it.

As Josephine scrolled through the photos, she could see how Lewis had indulged in every whimsical

idea that Sierra had and how willing he was to fool around with her.

Suddenly, Josephine realized that she had never taken a proper picture with Lewis. yet. She doesn’t

even have a picture of them next to each other.

Josephine was scrolling through Sierra’s Instagram pictures before she received a text from Daphne.

The text read, “Dad wants you guys home for dinner during the New Year; don’t forget.”

Robert was the head of the Alvarez family and held the highest authority in the house. If Daphne had

sent this message, it meant that Robert had ordered her to do

it.

There was a glint in Josephine’s eyes when she read Daphne’s message.

Subconsciously, her hand moved to touch her belly. It still felt a little sore
