Chapter 323 I Have Something Even Better

Amused by Josephine’s statement, Lewis couldn’t help but pinch her cheek. “Are you dumb? Even if I

were to abandon you here, where else could I go?”

The young woman pursed her lips in response. She wasn’t in the state to ponder about anything back

then. The moment she realized that Lewis had gone missing when she woke up, it was natural for her

to think that she got abandoned right away.

Josephine continued gazing at Lewis, beads of tears still hanging from the corners of her eyes. Anyone

who laid their eyes on her at that moment could tell that she felt extremely aggrieved.

In a way, she was born with an extraordinary charm. Whenever she pouted, no one would be able to

stay mad at her.

Lewis gazed at the young woman for some time before finally letting out an exasperated sigh. Then, he

grabbed her by the arm and pulled her to her feet.

Since reuniting with Lewis, Josephine perceived the once-howling winds as gentle breezes. The caws

coming from the birds around her no longer sounded scary. In fact, she thought that those birds were

now singing happily.

Since Josephine had run all the way into the deepest part of the woods, the duo spent a very long time

The man scanned his surroundings, hoping to find a safe spot. That was when he suddenly discovered

a multitude of neon green lights floating ahead of him.

Josephine widened her eyes slowly at the same time. She tugged on Lewis’ arm happily after that.

She could recognize those lights as fireflies.

The

young woman had never seen fireflies in real life, but she did see plenty of them on the television.

Needless to say, she was excited when she realized that she had just seen actual fireflies with her own

eyes.

Josephine released Lewis’ arm before bounding toward the fireflies excitedly.

The latter called out from behind, “Slow down!”

He didn’t think of how romantic the scene was when he first noticed the fireflies. Instead, he only

thought of two words-water source. If the fireflies appeared in this area, a water source was bound to

be nearby.

Josephine ran into the cluster of fireflies right away. The green lights surrounded her soon. enough, so

she could see countless lights floating around her.

Delighted, she reached out to grab the fireflies. There were so many of them hanging around her, so

she was able to catch a few.

However, when the young woman opened up her palm, she realized that the fireflies were already

squashed because of the force she used.

Lewis leaned against a tree close to her. The sight of Josephine jumping and twirling happily amidst the

fireflies made him look a little dazed despite the fatigue that plagued him.

The grass in the area was quite short, the tips of their blades only reaching the young woman’s knees.

Thanks to the fireflies’ combined glow, Lewis could see the flowers blooming amidst the grass.

At the same time, the fog started rolling into the woods, its wispy tendrils embracing the surroundings.

Soft veils of mist enveloped the area, lending an enchanting ambiance to the scene. The interplay of

fireflies dancing amidst the fog and the delicate blooms added a touch. of magic, transforming the

woods into a captivating miniature fairytale realm.

Despite her tattered robe, Josephine possessed an ethereal beauty that seemed to transcend reality,

especially amidst the enchanting glow of the surroundings. It was as though this was where she

belonged.

The young woman looked like a fairy who just returned to the magical forest. The joyful smile curled on

her lips right now made it seem like she was now home.

At the same time, she also looked like she was about to disappear into the fog.

Lewis placed a hand on his chest, feeling his chest hurting just from breathing. He had no idea if his

ribs were throbbing or his back was starting to ache.

Josephine appeared in front of him in his daze.

She cupped her hands together while slowly extending them toward his face.

Lewis looked down at her hands.

The young woman slowly separated her palms so that a few fireflies could fly out. The weak glow they

emitted was enough to illuminate the pair’s faces.

Lewis found himself gazing at Josephine’s face under the illumination of the flickering lights.

The latter flashed him a beautiful smile, her eyes now filled with joy and happiness. A gust of wind blew

through the woods at that moment, causing her hair to fly behind her.

A glint appeared in the man’s eyes as he reached out to caress her cheek.

His lips parted slightly while his Adam’s apple bobbed up and down.

Before Lewis could do anything else, Josephine ran away again, thus leaving him behind. She chased

after the fireflies, the white hem of her torn robe brushing against the bushes, making her look like she

was dancing amidst the glow.

The young woman kept feeling that there were even more fireflies waiting for her up ahead. As she ran

excitedly, she suddenly felt the ground beneath her feet disappear, causing her to lose her balance and

fall down.

“Josephine!”

Lewis’ expression changed drastically. He straightened up immediately and started bolting toward her.

By the time he reached the spot where Josephine had fallen, she was already picking herself up from

the ground.

It was just that she was drenched in water.

Lewis looked down at the ground. It appeared that Josephine happened to fall into a stream. The water

wasn’t deep at all, seeing as it only reached her ankles.

The poor woman sat in the water while looking up at him pitifully.

Her wet hair hung before her chest in flat locks as water droplets continued to drip off her chin.

Naturally, her robe was completely drenched as well.

Lewis gazed at her, his eyes gradually darkening at the same time.

However, Josephine didn’t notice that little change. Instead, she continued to gaze at him innocently.

As a sudden gust of wind swept past her, Josephine’s body trembled uncontrollably, overcome by a

chilling sensation.

Irritated by the young woman’s latest blunder, Lewis pulled her up to her feet before taking off his

trench coat when he noticed how drenched her robe was.

“Take it off.”

Josephine bit her bottom lip before removing the robe in front of Lewis. The latter put his trench coat on

her and buttoned it up properly while maintaining a stoic expression.

As he worked on the buttons, he realized that his fingers were trembling involuntarily, causing him to

struggle with the task, their dexterity faltering.

Lewis closed his eyes and took a deep breath. Then, he got up and took a step backward.’ Button it up

yourself.”

The change in his attitude shocked Josephine. She thought he was mad at her for running away alone

and falling into the stream.

Hence, the young woman quickly did the rest of the buttons and approached him. Then, she grabbed

Lewis’ hand gently. “Louie.”

That action caused the man to look even more annoyed.

He remained silent for a moment before dragging Josephine to the side. After that, he approached the

stream and glanced at it before scooping up some water with his palms so that he could drink it.

It was fresh water.

Josephine crouched next to Lewis, not knowing what to do. She looked very guilty at that time.

Lewis turned to look at her, saying, “This water is safe to drink.”

The young woman paused for a moment. Now that he mentioned it, she finally remembered how

parched and dry her throat was.

She reached out and started scooping the stream water immediately before eagerly gulping it down.

Once Josephine had her fill of the water, she was hungry again.

Her stomach started rumbling loudly, prompting her to turn around and gaze at Lewis resentfully.

The expression on Josephine’s face mirrored the familiar hunger-stricken gaze often seen in the golden

retrievers at Lewis’ mansion. Her hopeful anticipation quickly turned to disappointment as he

mercilessly shattered her dreams with those words.

“There is no food to be found here,” he declared, dashing any glimmer of hope she had.

Poor Josephine scrunched up her face before slumping on the ground tiredly.

The man let out a small sigh as he looked around the area. Suddenly, he noticed a small patch of

bushes that reached his waist growing up ahead.

He stood up abruptly while ordering, “Wait for me right here. Don’t go anywhere. You hear me?”

Josephine nodded in response.

Having received her response, Lewis started heading toward the bushes.

He pulled out his dagger and cut off a bunch of stalks from the bushes before bringing them

back to the stream.

Then, Lewis placed the green stalks in front of Josephine and washed them with water before handing

one of the green stalks to her. “Eat it.”

The young woman accepted it without hesitation and started munching on it. It was crunchy yet

tasteless.

Once she was done with the first stalk, she gestured, “What are these things?”

Lewis handed her another stalk. “Asparagus.”

Josephine didn’t understand that term.

“Just eat it. You won’t die.” Lewis stuffed one end of the asparagus into her mouth.

Josephine bit it off while gazing at the man in admiration. With the asparagus still trapped between her

teeth, she gestured, “You’re so cool! You know so much about food!”

Lewis raised an eyebrow in return. “I have something even better.”

The young woman blinked innocently. “What?”

The man just gazed at her meaningfully without answering her question.
