Darren smiled and said freely, “Norman, tomorrow’s a Sunday, and we’re all free. Why don’t our
families come together for lunch?”
Norman was a little surprised but responded civilly.
“Okay, I’ll have that scheduled.”
Darren said with a satisfied smile, “All right. It’s compulsory that all members of the family attend.”
While Norman cooperated, he couldn’t help but feel a bit distressed. He answered courteously despite
constantly feeling like something was off. They exchanged a few pleasantries before getting off the
phone.
Norman frowned, “I have a bad taste in my mouth. Why does he sound off?”
Linda’s face turned pale, “They…are they going to break off the engagement?”
Norman’s face darkened, and her mother frowned.
Follow on NovᴇlEnglish.nᴇtLinda mumbled, “It’s over… It’s over…”
Norman said with a sullen face, “Why are you panicking? The Wickam family needs the Benett family.
They have always pushed for marriage, so we have nothing to be afraid of.”
“I…”
“Look, you don’t have to worry about it. We will find out their intentions tomorrow,” Norman sighed.
“Don’t worry. If they dare to bring up the matter of canceling the marriage, I’ll threaten to terminate our
partnership. They have a lot at stake!”
Norman’s words were firm, which made Linda feel more at ease.
Although Wickam Group was rich, the Benetts were their biggest stakeholder. Having them out of the
picture would be a terrible move.
Linda still had an intact trust in Gareth.
With that in mind, she wasn’t as worried as before.
For a time, the family conversed, planning how to go about tomorrow. The Benett family would have to
be resilient tomorrow.
That night, none of them slept well.
They knew even with a game plan, the Wickams were unpredictable.
Being notoriously unyielding, it was difficult to influence their choices.
It would be pointless to try to convince them.
In the worst-case scenario, if they played their cards right, they could have the Wickams give in to their
demands to put off the engagement. Although it seems unlikely, yet…?
Everyone was anxious over the matter.
…
The night was long for a selected few.
Soon the hour approached.
Follow on Novᴇl-Onlinᴇ.cᴏmToday, the lunch could be regarded as an impromptu gathering.
The Benett family. Three in total.
The Wickams, a family of five.
Everyone was present. Julia was quite happy with the attendance. Her concerns from the previous
several days dissipated when she learned that the engagement might be canceled.
They appeared to accept things to some extent.
In the past, what she couldn’t accept the most was the divorce of Gareth and Elisa. What would
happen if her two precious grandchildren divorced.
But…
Later, after being played by these people, Gareth not only wanted a divorce but also got engaged to a
woman she didn’t like, which made her feel even more uncomfortable. Until now… She found the
situation a little unacceptable, and even felt a little broken.
