Chapter 242 She's Perfectly
Fine
“Hmm?” Hadley glanced pointedly down at Phillips’ hand on her arm. “Is there a reason you're stopping me?”
Did he really think he could keep her here?
Phillips stared at Hadley in disbelief before a humorless chuckle slipped out.
How could she even ask such a thing?
Though Hadley was important to Eric, Phillips wasn’t in the mood to show any courtesy right now. He said
coldly, “You're not leaving. Mr. Flynn will need to speak with you the moment he regains consciousness.”
“For what?” Hadley asked with genuine confusion in her voice. “I'm neither his doctor nor his nurse. There's
nothing much | can help with.”
Was she being serious?
Phillips struggled for words, irritation growing stronger by the second. “You're his girlfriend. Mr. Flynn hasn't
even regained consciousness yet, and you're thinking of just walking away?”
His tone suggested she had done something terribly wrong.
Instead of getting defensive, Hadley simply smiled-though her expression carried a touch of bitter amusement
-as she glanced toward the hospital room.
“Don’t you know why he is lying in that bed right now?” she asked softly.
Phillips froze, guilt flashing briefly through his eyes.
Hadley’s smile didn’t waver. “He got hurt protecting Linda. Once he wakes up, it’s her he’ll want at his bedside
-not me.”
As she finished, Hadley calmly but firmly pulled her arm free.
“Will you please letgo now?”
At a complete loss, Phillips had no choice but to let go.
Hadley flashed him a polite smile. “Thanks.”
Without another word, she turned and left.
Phillips watched her leave, completely unsettled.
Now what was he supposed to do?
Even though Hadley’s logic made sense, he still couldn't shake the feeling that Eric would expect her there

when he opened his eyes
Phillips couldn’t help but feel that Hadley seemed entirely unconcerned with Eric’s condition.
At around nine, Eric finally regained consciousness.
Surprisingly, be felt fine-like he'd simply awakened from a long, restful sleep
“Eric-you’re finally up.” Linda's unmistakable voice rang out, filled with relief and mild surprise.
Like him, she was wearing hospital clothes, though her stay was precautionary-aside from feeling cold and a
little shaken, she’d escaped unharmed.
At Ernest's insistence, she remained in the hospital overnight, just to ensure she was completely fine.
Ernest himself was present, quietly standing guard nearby.
Eric acknowledged them with a slight nod. “Linda, Ernest.”
*About tyou woke up,” Linda said, giving him a gentle yet reproachful look. “You were unconscious for hours.
How are you feeling? Any pain?”
“None,” Eric answered after a brief pause to check himself. “Just feels stiff when | try moving.”
“You shouldn’t move around so much,” Linda said softly, easing him back against the pillows. “Don’t strain
yourself. You've got injuries everywhere, healing takes rest.”
“They're minor scratches,” Eric responded, offering her a reassuring grin. “No big deal.”
Turning his attention to Ernest, he asked earnestly, “Does Hadley know what happened?”
The thought that Hadley might have called him before the incident still worried him. “Have you spoken to her? Is
everything alright with her?”
Linda didn’t give Ernest a chance to speak, instead letting out a bitter laugh filled with obvious disdain. “Oh,
believe me, nothing’s wrong with her. She’s perfectly fine.”
“Linda,” Ernest said sharply, his eyebrows knitting together in concern.
“What, am | wrong? Linda retorted, her irritation with Hadley suddenly surfacing.
“Her boyfriend is hospitalized, practically unconscious, and what does she do? She leaves. She couldn't even
wait around until he woke up. Said something ridiculous about needing to go to work. Honestly, Eric-what kind of
job could possibly mean more to her than you?”
With every word, Linda’s anger deepened. “You're always worried sick about her- but does she even spare a
thought for you?”
“Stop it, Linda!” Ernest interjected, unable to hold back any longer. “That's enough.”
Turning her back to him, Linda retorted, “Will silence alter the truth?”
As Eric's mood seemed to darken, Ernest quickly interjected, “In fact, Hadley didn’t waste a moment coming
here when she heard about your accident. She was right outside the surgery room all that tand she spent
the night here by your side. It's likely she had to leave for work because she couldn't take leave.”

Inside, Eric wasn't by himself.
Dressed again in her own attire, Linda had completed her medical examination, received a dean and was
preparing to leave.
She paused to visit Eric, waiting for Ernest to fetch her.
As Hadley entered, she arrived just in tto catch the tail end of a conversation, marked by Linda’s subdued

Eric offered her a tissue, saying, “You should talk to Ernest. Yes, he made errors, but...”
His voice trailed off as he noticed Hadley,
“Hadley,” said Eric, his face breaking into a gentle smile. “You've arrived.”
“Yes.”
Looking from Eric to Linda, Hadley voiced her concern. “Eric was searching for you all night, and he ended up
getting hurt. How are you holding up?”
Taken aback by the question, Linda answered, “I'm alright, thank you.”

She wiped away her tears, stood, and added, “Ernest will be here shortly. | think I'll wait for him outside”
“Sure thing.” Hadley said with a smile as she escorted Linda to the door, which she opened gracefully, “Take

“Will do.” With a tentative smile, Linda exited.
“Hadley,” Eric called from the bed, extending his hand towards her. “Joinhere, please.”
After closing the door, Hadley approached and took the seat Linda had just left, deliberately overlooking his
extended hand.
“How are you holding up?” she inquired.
Eric's expression shifted to one of disappointment. “Why sit so far? Move closer; let's be comfortable.”
Hadley eyed his bandages and offered a cautious smile. “Aren’t you worried about aggravating your injuries?”
His grin broadened. “Are you concerned for me?”
