Chapter 172 Give The Dres
To Linda
In the past, such a confrontation would have already erupted with Hadley.
However...
This time, Hadley simply offered a smile as she scrutinized the dress. It truly was exquisite.
Linda had claimed it suited her taste to perfection... And she wasn’t wrong!
It was either a deliberate comment by Linda or an unintentional reveal-Eric, unable to help himself, chose a style
Linda would adore even though the dress was meant for Hadley.
It was clear he always held Linda close to his heart!
It was the pearl hair tie situation all over again. Hadley believed Eric must have envisioned Linda while ordering
this dress.
Thinking back to her welcback party when she first cback to Srixby, Hadley recalled how the dress Eric
picked for her was also identical to Linda’s..
A subtle smile played on Hadley’s lips.
She turned to the shop assistant and said, “Please, give this dress to Miss Harris.”
“Excuse me?”
lie.”
Surprise registered on both the shop assistant’s and Linda's faces.
Linda’s excitement was evident. “Really? You're giving it to me?”
“That's right.” Hadley confirmed with a nod.
The shop assistant wavered slightly. “But Miss Pearson, Mr. Flynn ordered this specifically for you.”
“No worries.”
Hadley remained unbothered. “Since he bought it for me, | own it. That means | can give it away if | choose,
correct?”
“Well, yes.” The shop assistant hesitated but recognized the truth in her words.
“Good, it’s decided then.”
Unable to contain her excitement, Linda immediately grabbed the dress and hurried to try it on.

“Right away, Miss Harris!”
Linda joyously entered the fitting room.
Observing Hadley, the first shop assistant expressed concern, saying, “Miss Pearson, would you be interested in
seeing sother dresses? We have a large selection.”
With a calm smile, Hadley responded, “There’s no need. I'm ready to leave now, thank you.”
She confidently exited the shop, feeling a weight lifted from her shoulders.
Perfect! Now that she was without the dress, there was no obligation to attend the evening's party. Surely, she
couldn't show up in her workout clothes.

Exiting the store, Sebastian promptly approached her and asked, “Miss Hadley, have you finished with the dress
already? That was quick.”
“Yes, | am.” Still smiling, Hadley added, “I need to stop by the dance stulater. Don’t worry about the party,
Sebastian; I'll manage on my own.”
“Alright, then.”
Hadley left the store, eager to get hearly.
An evening free from performances was a rarity, offering her a precious opportunity to be with Joy.
Usually, by the tshe arrived home, Joy was already asleep.
Tonight, however, she looked forward to reading Joy a bedtstory and tucking her in.
As she waited for a taxi, her phone began to ring.
The caller ID displayed an unknown landline number.
“Hello?” She answered the call, puzzled.
“Hello, this is the police station. Are you a friend of Elissa Holland's?”
“Oh, yes!” Hadley’s heart raced. “Officer, what's the situation?”
“Could you cto the station, please?”
“Absolutely, Ill be right there!”
Hadley rushed to the police station after ending the call, her nerves on edge.
Over the phone, the officers had explained that Elissa was involved in an altercation.
Upon arriving, she found Elissa alone on a bench, looking disheveled with bruises marring her pale face.
Blood was trickling from her forehead and the corner of her mouth.
“Elissa,” Hadley called out softly as she approached and began to smooth out her friend's hair.
Without asking any questions, she reassured her, “Just hang tight. I'll sort out the paperwork and we'll head

home.”
The altercation hadn't been one-sided; it involved mutual aggression.
Someone had already stopped by and escorted the other person away.
While finalizing the documents, a police officer, a man, shook his head and said, “You might want to have a word
with your friend later. Is a man really worth all this trouble?”
The officer continued, perplexed, “With so many men in the world, why squabble over one who's deceiving both
of them? It just isn’t worth it.”
Startled, Hadley wondered if a romantic dispute had really sparked the fight.
Forcing a dry laugh, she responded, “You have a point, officer.”
With the paperwork completed, Hadley went to get Elissa, offering her arm for support as they exited the station
and headed to her apartment.
They made a quick stop at a pharmacy to get ssupplies.
Back at Elissa’s apartment, Hadley fetched a comb and carefully tied Elissa’s hair back before pulling out the
first aid supplies.
“Letclean and treat your wounds. It may sting a little, but try to endure it, okay?”
“Okay,” Elissa responded, trusting Hadley to take care of her.
As Hadley tended to the injuries, Elissa experienced little discomfort, only feeling the sharp sting when the
medicine was applied.
Elissa gently bit her lip and murmured, “Hadley, I'm grateful.”
“For what, exactly?” Hadley responded, dismissing it while she cleared away the rubbish. “You've been there for
“That's true.”
Despite knowing each other for only a short time, Elissa felt the depth of their friendship.
After tidying up, Hadley gestured towards Elissa’s mouth. “Eating must be tough right now with that busted lip.
Still, you need to eat something. What are you in the mood for dinner?”
She doubted Elissa was in the mood to eat anything at all, yet she felt obligated to ask.
Predictably, Elissa declined any food. “I'm not hungry at all.”
“Then don’t force yourself to eat.”
Helping Elissa to recline, Hadley suggested, “Take srest. You probably don’t feel like talking either. Just take

“Alright.”
Elissa complied, laying down with a resigned expression.
Silently, Hadley stood, shut the door softly behind her, and left the bedroom.

She didn’t leave the apartment but headed to the kitchen to open the refrigerator.
Elissa, restless and unable to drift off, picked up on the subtle noises from the kitchen. She surmised Hadley was
up to something.
Eventually, the sounds stopped.
Shortly after, Elissa’s phone vibrated with a text from Hadley.
“I've prepared sfood for you. Eat when you feel up to it.”
Tears immediately filled Elissa’s eyes.
She covered her eyes with her hand, overwhelmed.
Hadley had not pressed her for details, focusing instead on her comfort and well-being.
As Hadley left Elissa’s apartment, flakes of snow began to drift down from the sky.
“Amazing.”
She extended her hand to catch the snowflakes, marveling at the change from rain to snow.
Winter seemed to have finally arrived in Srixby.
With taking care of Elissa causing a delay, evening was quickly approaching.
Living close by, Hadley decided to pick up her pace and go home
At the stime, Eric was at the party, surveying the crowd yet unable to spot Hadley.
What was going on?
He had arrived on time; where was Hadley? Hadn't she mentioned she'd cby herself?
His thoughts were interrupted when Linda approached, delicately lifting her dress, calling out, “Eric.”
Hmm?
Why did that dress look so familiar? Eric thought, frowning. Wasn't that the sdress he had picked out for
Hadley?
Could it be a mistake?
Was this another occasion where they ended up in identical dresses?
