Chapter 1620:
“Enough!” Eric exploded, veins pulsing at his temples. In that moment, he regretted ever agreeing to cover
tonight.
“So her family has to be present, or the wedding is off? That's just bullshit!
Hadley, we're leaving.”
He grabbed her hand and turned to leave.
“Hadley?”
On their way back to their place, Eric bent closer to her and gently said, “Let whatever he said fade away. Don’t
carry those words.”

With a sudden motion, Hadley lifted her head to face him. Tears rimmed her eyes as she shook her head.
“There's no way | can accept the Jenkins family. If my mom were still here, if she saw them at my wedding, it
would have broken her heart.”
“Of course, | get it. | do,” Eric answered right away.
However, Hadley looked past him, her brows knitting tighter as she spoke through a wavering breath. “If not
having a family to supportmakes you ashamed of me, if that’s something you can’t stand, then let's call this
off now. You're free to walk away and marry someone else...”
“Don’t say things like that!” Eric flinched, alarmed by her words. He quickly placed a hand over her mouth and
asked, his voice almost trembling, “Have | ever treated you like you don’t belong?”
“But still...”
“Are you really going to walk away just because of scareless words from the old man?” Eric fixed her with a
troubled stare, his brows drawing together. “You once said you'd stay by my side. Are you really going to break
that promise and leavebehind now?”
He took her hands and pressed them against his forehead. “Letting you go would destroy me. | could never
survive it. | would fall apart, and die! Do you want to seedead?”
Surprise overtook Hadley, her eyes wide as she shook her head. “No, | never wanted that...”

That thought had never even crossed her mind.
“I only—""
“It’s me. | should’ve handled things better.” Eric couldn’t stand to see her in distress, and he meant every word.
“I'had no idea he'd say something like that. Letfix this, Hadley. I'll talk to him. I'll make sure he
understands.”
He lifted her hand and kissed it gently. “Promiseone thing. Please don’t say you want to leaveagain. |
can’t handle hearing that from you. You have to promise.”
“Alright.” After a moment, Hadley managed a nod.
Despite her agreement, a faint worry still lingered in Hadley’s heart.
Ernest had promised that he would reach out, and true to his word, he called two days later.
As sunlight filtered in, Hadley arrived with Eric's usual herbal remedy in hand.
“Go ahead and take this.”
No sooner had Eric picked up the bowl than Hadley’s phone began to ring.
“Hi, Ernest... You mean today? Alright, | understand.”
