Chapter 1618:
“I will! When you start school, we'll see each other all the time. So be well and grow up happy and strong, okay?”
“I will. I promise!”
“Joy, | have to be on my way now. I'll miss you.”
“I'll miss you too, Locke!”
The adults stood by, quietly taking in the heartwarming scene. They exchanged glances, doing their best not to
burst into laughter.
Under the pouring rain, Ernest carried Locke to the car and drove off from Olisvale Bay.
Hadley stood at the doorway, her gaze following them. Even after the car disappeared from sight, she stood
there, lost in thought.
“Hadley?” Eric took her hand and gave it a light shake. “What are you thinking about? You look a little spaced
out.”

The whole thing still felt a little surreal to her. Ernest had pulled it off. He had sent Linda away and returned to
Srixby all on his own, without a hitch.
“Con. Let's head back in.” Eric walked her back in, rubbing his stomach. “I'm getting hungry.”
“Alright.” Hadley smiled and nodded. Everything around her was real now.
The person who had once clung to her like a shadow, tormenting her life, was now far, far away.
Linda could never cause her any trouble again. At last, she could breathe freely.
In the car on the way home, Locke leaned back in his seat, looking quiet and gloomy.
Ernest didn’t tease him about his mood. He simply said, “We're almost home. Let's lose that long face, alright?”

“Huh?” Locke looked up, surprised and pouting. “Seriously, Dad? I'm not allowed to be sad now? | just don’t want
to leave Joy.”
“Geez...” Ernest laughed under his breath. “Alright, fine. Keep that gloomy face. But if Miss Holland sees you like
this, she might think you're not excited to see her.”
“Miss Holland?” Locke's eyes instantly brightened, and his mood took a turn. “Where is she?”
By now, the car was already inside the Flynn Mansion.
“Look,” Ernest said, pointing toward the house. “She’s waiting for you inside.”
“Really?” Locke sounded skeptical, but his eyes lit up with hope.
“You'll find out in just a moment.” The car halted before the house.
Ernest stepped out with Locke in his arms. Almost as if someone had been watching for them, the front door
opened right away.
Elissa stood by the door, rising on tiptoe to get a better look. When her eyes landed on father and son, a warm
smile spread across her face.
“Miss Holland!” Locke squirmed out of Ernest's hold and bolted straight for her.
“Hello, Locke!” Elissa crouched down with open arms and wrapped him in a warm embrace.
“Miss Holland, | missed you so, so much,” Locke said earnestly.
