Chapter 1597:
Because if she didn't... he wasn’t sure what else he could do.
After dinner, the three of them drove to the Flynn Mansion.
As their car rolled to a stop, the front doors stood open, light spilling out into the twilight. Two sleek cars were
parked in the driveway, and staff moved briskly between them, loading luggage and checking lists.
Eric stepped out first, scooping Joy into his arms. Then he leaned back in and offered a hand toward the
passenger seat. “Hadley,” he said softly, “we're here.”
After placing her hand on Eric's, Hadley stepped out of the car.
Already waiting at the door, Ernest smiled and greeted them, “You made it.”
“Uncle Ernest!” Joy called out as she looked up at him. Seeing that he was alone, she impatiently asked,
“Where's Locke?”
Ernest chuckled and pointed inside. “He’s in his room, Joy.”
“Can | go to him?”
Follow on NovᴇlEnglish.nᴇt“Of course.” Ernest nodded, still smiling. “Do you remember where Locke's room is?”
“I do!” Joy nodded eagerly. “Uncle Ernest, | will go find him.”
“Alright.”
With his permission, Joy took off. She rushed past the adults and disappeared into the house.
“Joy, slow down!” Hadley called after her, shaking her head. She glanced at Ernest with a sigh and said, “I'll go in
and bring the kids out.”
“Sorry to trouble you,” said Ernest apologetically.
“Don’t mention it.”
Hadley hurried after Joy, but the little girl was already halfway up the stairs. “What am | going to do with her?”
she muttered with a chuckle. She slowed down. There was no need to chase after her.

But just as she reached the foot of the stairs, she saw Linda. The caregiver was gently lowering her into the
wheelchair, having just carried her down from the second floor.
Hadley kept her eyes forward and walked as if she hadn't noticed.
“Hadley.”
Well, trouble always had a way of showing up when you least needed it.
Just as Hadley had expected, Linda called out to her.
At this moment, she paused, her jaw tightening ever so slightly. After a brief hesitation, she turned. Her eyes met
Linda’s. She stood still and said nothing.
Linda’s gaze lingered on Hadley, a faint smile tugging at the corners of her lips. After a brief moment's silence,
she said at last, “I didn’t expect you to actually show up today. Letguess. You're only staying by Eric's side
because of his illness, aren't you?”
Hadley dropped her gaze. Her lack of reaction made it seem like Linda wasn’t speaking to her.
“No answer? It's fine. | can see it anyway. You're miserable. It’s written all over your face.” Linda arched a brow
and let out a dry chuckle. “I told you your good days were over. How does it feel, Hadley? Do you like the mess |
made for you? From now on, you won't smile again.”
But across from her, Hadley’s expression remained cool and detached.
